California Cruises to Fifth Straight PSAC Women's Tennis Championship

Bloomsburg, Pa. - California lost just six games in sweeping doubles and then its No. 5 and 6 singles players combined to drop just three games as the Vulcans cruised to a 5-0 win over IUP to win their fifth straight PSAC women's tennis championship. The Crimson Hawks were making their first appearance in program history in the PSAC championship match.
The Vulcans' No. 1 doubles team won 8-2, No. 2 doubles won by an 8-3 score while No. 3 doubles won 8-1. At No. 5 singles, Axelle Fernandez topped IUP's Kelly McBrayan, 6-0, 6-1 while the Vulcans' Laurie Navarro won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles over Alex Ballard to complete the match. The Vulcans' other four singles players were all up at the time the match was halted.
The title was the seventh in program history for California, just three shy of Bloomsburg's 10, which is the most for any program in PSAC history.
