Final 2010-11 Dixon Trophy Standings

Harrisburg, Pa. – Shippensburg University today was named the winner of the 2010-11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Dixon Trophy it was announced at the league’s annual Board of Directors meeting. The trophy is awarded annually to the top athletics program among the PSAC’s 16 full-time members.

The Dixon Trophy is named after F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. Each year it is awarded to the PSAC member institution that accumulates the most points based on results of conference playoffs and/or regular-season records. Each institution's point total is calculated by adding its top six men's finishes and top six women's finishes in 23 conference sports.

For Shippensburg, it marked the seventh time the school has laid claim to the award, the most among PSAC institutions. It also marked the second straight season the Raiders finished atop the standings as they have now won consecutive titles on four separate occasions.

In winning this year’s crown Shippensburg set a new margin of victory standard, registering 166 points to triumph over second-place Indiana (Pa.) University by 15.5 points. The Raiders won an all-time PSAC best seven league titles, which included a sweep on the men’s and women’s side in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Shippensburg’s remaining conference crown came in men’s soccer. Other key contributions came in the form of third-place points in field hockey and fourth-place points in softball.

Shippensburg’s balanced total was comprised of 82.5 points on the men’s side and 83.5 on the women’s side. The men’s total marked a league high while the women posted the third best PSAC total.

IUP registered a runner-up finish for the fourth time in school history and for first time since 2002-03. The Crimson Hawks also made the highest ascension for any PSAC school, having finished in sixth a year ago. The IUP men earned conference titles in golf and basketball and had a runner-up showing in baseball while the women won a softball crown, had a runner up in tennis and placed third in indoor track and field.

California University, with 147.5 points, topped a tightly grouped pack that finished third through seventh. The Vulcans were followed closely by Kutztown (146.5), Slippery Rock (145.5), East Stroudsburg (145) and Bloomsburg (144) Universities.
