National Girls & Women in Sports Day Around the PSAC
Lock Haven, Pa. - What started as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic ability and work to assure equality for women’s sports in 1987 has blossomed into a nationally recognized day that is celebrated in all 50 states.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is celebrating its 25 years of success in various forms such as award ceremonies, community-based events, and activities honoring the achievements and encourage girls and women in sport. This widely-known day is organized by the National Girls and Women in Sport Coalition, which includes Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, National Women’s Law Center, and the Women’s Sports Foundation.
NGWSD is a special day for girls and women to celebrate their participation in sports and athletics. The PSAC will recognize this day by hosting various events on campus and in the community. This year's celebration marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX, signed into law in 1972.
