Zulli and Thomson Headline East All-PSAC

Lock Haven, Pa. – A record-breaking season for junior quarterback Zach Zulli of Shippensburg earned him PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year, while down lineman Bryan Thomson of East Stroudsburg has been tabbed the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year. East Stroudsburg’s Matt Soltes was named PSAC East Freshman of the Year for his standout performance, and Shippensburg head coach Mark Maciejewski earned PSAC East Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to a 10-1 season and into the NCAA Championship tournament.

Zulli has led Division II’s most productive offense throughout the 2012 season and stands third in total offense with an average 387.09 yards per outing. In just his second season at quarterback, Zulli has already broken three Shippensburg records, including career touchdown passes, total offense yards and total offense touchdowns. The Harlon Hill Trophy candidate has completed 291-453 passes this season and has hooked-up with receivers on 50 occasions for touchdowns. His efficiency rating of 172.8 ranks third in Division II, and his 368.18 passing yards per game is second in the nation.

Thomson has racked-up 50 total tackles this season, including 16 solo takedowns. He has also registered a team-high nine tackles for loss in 2012 that added-up to a total 40 yards of loss for East Stroudsburg’s opponents, including five sacks for 29 yards lost. Additionally, Thomson has recovered two fumbles and has blocked six kick attempts. One of Thomson’s highlight games of the season came against LIU-Post, where he registered six total tackles, two sacks for 12 yards, and a blocked kick.

In just his second season at the helm of the Shippensburg football program, Head Coach Mark Maciejewski has led his squad to another winning season, its third winning season since 2004. Under Maciejewski, the Raiders have posted 864 points in the last two season compared to their opponents 361 points, a 503 point margin. Prior to the PSAC Championship game, he led the Raiders on a 14 game winning streak, its second longest win streak in program history. Maciejewski has led the Raiders to their third NCAA playoff berth in the last nine seasons and its fifth in school history. Shippensburg will host Bloomsburg in the first round of competition on Saturday, November 17.

As a redshirt freshman, Matt Soltes ranks sixth in the PSAC in passing with over 2,600 yards on the season and a .609 passing percentage. Soltes is just the second East Stroudsburg freshman quarterback to eclipse the 2,000 passing yard milestone. Earlier in the season, Soltes set a PSAC record for total offense with 666 yards, just 15 yards shy of the Division II record, in a 45-37 win at LIU Post. The game was just his fifth career start as he led an offense that shattered the PSAC record single game record with 828 yards.

The 2012 East All-PSAC rosters mark third appearances on an all-conference roster for five athletes, Franklyn Quiteh from Bloomsburg, Kutztown’s Kevin Morton, Josh Mastromatto from Kutztown, Jarrett Pidgeon from Bloomsburg, and Dan Fisher of Bloomsburg.
