Clarion's Kayla Shull Receives PSAC Champion Scholar Award for Women's Swimming Championship
Mechanicsburg, Pa. - Clarion junior women's swimmer Kayla Shull has been named as the recipient of the PSAC Champion Scholar Award for the women's swimming championship. She was presented with the award on Sunday prior to the final night of the championship.
The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honor the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III. Shull is the inaugural recipient of the award for women's swimming as the Champion Scholar Awards are being initiated during the current academic year.
Shull, who was a PSAC Winter Top 10 Award honoree last year as a sophomore, was the individual champion in the 100 backstroke at this year's meet for the third consecutive year. A native of Franklin, Pa., Shull is a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. She has compiled 75.5 credit hours while majoring in speech pathology and compiling a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
