PSAC Student-Athlere Feature - Lauren Ventrella Wednesday, February 22, 2012 6:01 PM ARCHIVED PROFILES LAUREN VENTRELLA East Stroudsburg - Athletic Training and Biology Major Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk HS Ventrella is a junior two-sport student-athlete at East Stroudsburg. Ventrella earned a starting spot at forward on the field hockey squad this past season, leading the Warriors in goals (9) and points (20) on her way to second-team All-PSAC East honors. In track and field, she specializes in the sprints and hurdles, which includes school record marks in the 100m outdoor (14.73) and 60m indoor (7.79) events. She also holds the school record in the 60m hurdles with her 8.94 while winning the PSAC Indoor Championships in the 2010 campaign. Why did you choose East Stroudsburg? Because of my track coach and I loved that both of my coaches were willing to work with me on being a two-sport athlete. I also liked the school size and what it had to offer major wise. What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college? The biggest adjustment was the amount of school work and the different play and competition. What are your career plans? To become a nurse. I plan on going to nursing school after I graduate from ESU. Who is your favorite athlete and why? If I had to pick one it would probably be Lolo Jones just because I look up her as athlete and a hurdler. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Don’t give up. What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college? I have enjoyed the freedom and the chance to meet so many new people. What is your top collegiate athletics memory? For track it would winning the PSAC title in the hurdles as a freshman. For field hockey it would be becoming a starter my junior year and being the leading scorer on the team. ... top athletic accomplishment throughout your life? My senior year of high school was really my highlight year. I went undefeated in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles winning my county, state, state open and New England titles. What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective? I would have to say my high school track coach. He taught me a lot and has helped mold me into the person and athlete I am today. Among athletes in the family, where do you rate? I am probably the top athlete in my family. My siblings have participated in sports but I have succeeded the most in my athletics and have been the only one to play sports in college. If I could go pro in any sport it would be: track. Stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? A computer, a book and a blanket. What is your favorite vacation spot? Somewhere warm. I would be a lot more effective if I would spend less time: PROCRASTINATING. I leave things for the last minute. If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be: I don’t really know. In field hockey it would definitely be easier if we could use both sides of the stick. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions? I have in the past but now I don’t really have any. I do listen to music before competition to help me get focused. What’s on your Ipod during pregame? I play some Eminem songs and other pump up songs. The most addictive snack food for me is: Lays Barbeque Chips. Fill in the blanks: When you’re in my hometown, you should try the buffalo chicken calzone at Little Nicks. Words your coach says that you swear you can hear in your sleep: You need to get down on the ground and push it. Sport I would look bad doing, and why: BASKETBALL... That is the one sport I have been horrible at since day one and I have not gotten any better.
