ANDY YOUNG

Mansfield - Criminal Justice Major

James Creek / Huntingdon Area HS

Young is a versatile senior right-handed pitcher for Mansfield's baseball team.  He has made at least 10 appearances in each of his first three seasons, including a career-high eight starts as a sophomore.  Last year, he ranked second among Mansfield regulars with a respectable 3.52 ERA as he posted four starts and led the team with two saves. With 11 appearances in 2012, he ranks ninth in the Eastern Division with a 3.26 ERA and has struck out 31 batters in just over 38 innings.

Why did you choose Mansfield?

I really like the rural location of Mansfield and Mansfield had my academic interest
What are your career plans?
 
To become a law enforcement officer.
What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college?

I had to learn how to pitch not just throw.

What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective?

My father.

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Pitch ahead and throw strikes.

What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college?

Making many new close friends.
What is your top collegiate athletics memory?

Playing with my older brother my freshman year.


What do you consider your most memorable athletic accomplishment throughout your life?

Playing in the Pennsylvania State Legion Championship Tournament.


If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be:


Playing with wood bats

What is your favorite pro sports team?

Pittsburgh Pirates

My hidden talent is:

Horseshoes.
What’s on your Ipod during pregame?

Country.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I have to have clean cleats and eat at Eddie’s Restaurant for breakfast.

The most addictive snack food for me is:

MIDDLESWARTH BAR-B-Q POTATO CHIPS




I would be a lot more effective if I would spend less time:

Hunting.
If I could go pro in any sport it would be:

Baseball.

Ship builders build ships and pitchers pitch.
