With the Lock Haven versus West Virginia University match on the line Sunday junior Mac Maldarelli secured the victory for the Bald Eagles. The match with the Mountaineers began at 157 pounds and the match was tied 15-15 heading into the day’s final bout at 149. Maldarelli shined under the spotlight and earned an 8-0 major decision over WVU’s Timothy Wheeling at 149-pounds, which sealed the team-victory for The Haven. The win was the first for Lock Haven over West Virginia since 2005 and the squad snapped a seven-match losing streak to WVU. Maldarelli scored a late, first-period takedown to lead 2-0 after one. Starting the second period down, Maldarelli scored on a quick escape and a takedown as he jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead after just two periods. In the third period, Maldarelli tilted Timothy Wheeling for a pair of points and collected a 2:52 riding time advantage on the way to the major that sealed the huge victory for The Haven. With the win, Maldarelli improved to 13-7 on the year.
