Lock Haven, Pa. – A record-breaking season and career for Bloomsburg’s Franklyn Quiteh earned him PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Year, while Shippensburg’s Jake Metz was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year, as selected by the league’s head coaches.

East Stroudsburg’s Robert Healy was tabbed the PSAC East Freshman of the Year – marking the second time in as many years East Stroudsburg has earned the Freshman of the Year award. Bloomsburg’s Paul Darragh was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to a 10-1 season and into the Second Round of the NCAA Division II Football Championship tournament.

Quiteh, the PSAC Football Championship MVP, currently leads Division II in rushing yards (1,987) and rushing touchdowns (27). Quiteh also holds the most rushing yards, touchdowns, rushing yards per game, points, and all-purpose yards among all active NCAA players across all divisions. The Tobyhanna native is the PSAC all-time leader in rushing yards (7,315), rushing touchdowns (85), overall touchdowns (89), and points (536). Quiteh led the Huskies to their first PSAC Championship crown since 1985 with a 42-38 win over Slippery Rock. He found the endzone three times during the title game, including the game-winning touchdown with just 27 seconds left on the game clock.

Metz, Shippensburg’s first-ever Defensive Athlete of the Year
award winner, was the driving force behind Shippensburg’s defense in 2013 with 62 total tackles, 36 of which were solo, and 18 tackles for loss for a conference high 113 yards. The Souderton graduate charted five pass breakups in his senior campaign along with three quarterback hurries. Metz finished his collegiate career with 55 tackles for loss to become Shippensburg’s all-time career tackles for loss leader.

Healy rushed for 1,129 yards this season, the second-most in East Stroudsburg history. He broke the Warriors’ freshman rushing record by 20 yards, and ran for more than 100 yards on five occasions. Healyranks atop all freshmen in the PSAC with 102.6 yards per game rushing, and ranks fifth among league leaders.

Interim Head Coach Paul Darragh took over the Bloomsburg program in February and is the only coach in Bloomsburg history to start their tenure with a 7-0 record. Darragh served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for the last 16 years. He led the Huskies to its first PSAC Championship title since 1985, a 10-1 overall record, and a spot in the NCAA Championship tournament.

The 2013 East All-PSAC teams mark the fourth appearance on the All-PSAC First Team for Quiteh, while Bloomsburg’s Dan Fisher has made an All-Conference squad all four years of his career. Bloomsburg’s Brian Clarke is a three-time honoree, along with Shippensburg’s Brian Sourber, Bloomsburg’s Justin Shirk, Shippensburg’s Tyriq Kershaw, Lock Haven’s Anthony Herko, and Metz.
