Mercyhurst Wrestling Named Inaugural PSAC Dual Champion

Erie, Pa. – With a 26-9 victory over Gannon University on Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center in Erie, the Mercyhurst wrestling team is the inaugural PSAC D-II Dual Champion.

In the match against Gannon, Mercyhurst won back-to-back decisions to open the match at 125 and 133. The Lakers also took major decisions at 149 and 174, while winning decisions at 165 and 197. The Lakers earned their final six points of the night due to a medical forfeit. See below for full results.

The Dual Championship marks the first time in conference history that a Division II Dual Champion has been named amongst the six participating D-II programs. The PSAC also supports four NCAA Division I programs. Individual champions at each weight class as well as a team champion, Edinboro, were named in early December 2012 at the PSAC Individual Championship hosted by Kutztown University. The Lakers finish their dual season against PSAC members with a perfect 5-0 record. The Lakers handled East Stroudsburg, at home, back on December 15 by a 42-3 margin. Mercyhurst then won matches on back-to-back days in early January over Millersville (26-18) and Shippensburg (30-13) before upsetting then-No. 7 Kutztown, at home, 23-16 on January 19.
