Spring Top Ten Award Winners
Lock Haven, Pa. –The PSAC is pleased to announce the PSAC 2013 Spring Top 10 Award winners that were selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors based on academic and athletic performances during the spring season.
Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the Top 10 Award recipients are given to five male and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring. The Spring 2012-13 award winners are

Ridhima Borooah of Kutztown,
Aaron Dinzeo of California,
Brenae Edwards of Mansfield,
Kevin Jewel of Slippery Rock,
Erin Kling of California,
Pat Kregeloh of Shippensburg,
Sarah Krolick of Edinboro,
Jacob Pilarski of Mercyhurst, and
Matt Tholis of East Stroudsburg.
Both Tabitha Bemis and Dinzeo are repeat winners from the winter season, with both participating in indoor and outdoor track and field. The recognition marks Bemis’ fourth in her career, as she also was an honoree during the winter and spring seasons of 2011-12. Bemis is the only spring repeat winner from a year ago.
Of the Spring Top Ten award winners, Kregeloh stands as the only winner that has clinched Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America honors with a third team selection in baseball. The track and field/cross country Academic All-Americans have a planned release date of June 26.
Borooah was named the Champion Scholar of the PSAC Tennis Championship, while Pilarski clinched Champion Scholar honors at the Golf Championship held during the fall season. Kling, although not the Champion Scholar of the Outdoor Track and Field Championship, she was named the winner during the indoor season.
To be a candidate for the PSAC Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials for their respective team. The spring sports eligible for consideration for the Spring Top 10 Awards are men and women’s outdoor track and field, baseball, softball, men and women’s golf, lacrosse, and men and women’s tennis.
At the conclusion of the academic year, all Top 10 Award winners from each season are eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, given to one male and one female candidate.
Listed below are biographies for the Spring 2012-13 PSAC Top 10 Award winners:
Tabitha Bemis, Edinboro, Women’s Track & Field, Junior
Major: Health and Physical Education (Sports & Recreation Administration)
Cumulative GPA: 3.89
Bemis made her second trip to outdoor nationals and fourth overall, qualifying in the triple jump after turning in the winning jump in the event at the PSAC Outdoor Championships (39’11.25”)… took 16
th place at nationals in the triple jump (38’9 ¾”) ... finished second in 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.30 at PSAC Championships as well as helped two Edinboro replay teams earn All-PSAC honors – the 4x100 meter relay team finished second (47.32) and Bemis also ran the lead leg of the 4x400-meter relay team which also finished second (3:52.62) ... finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18’10.5” … Nabbed first place finish in the 100-meter hurdle finals at Slippery Rock Last Chance Qualifier (14.22) as well as at the Baldwin-Wallace Sparky Adams Invitational (14.54), also running the anchor leg of the winning 4x100-meter relay (48.85) ... Competed in prestigious Penn Relays, taking 22
nd in triple jump (38’2”) ... Named to Capital One Academic District 2 Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field First Team.
Ridhima Borooah, Kutztown Women’s Tennis, Senior
Major: Accounting and Finance
Cumulative GPA: 3.93
Borooah was named the 2013 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, and the 2013 PSAC Champion Scholar award winner... She earned All-PSAC honors in singles play and doubles play... Borooah capped the season with an 11-4 overall record in singles competition and an 11-7 doubles record with Hannah Pipkin
… The former PSAC Freshman of the Year (2010) is a repeat singles and doubles all-conference selection from a year ago... The senior helped her team clinch the program's first PSAC East Division title in school history, as the team posted a perfect 6-0-league record.
Aaron Dinzeo, California Men’s Outdoor Track & Field, Junior
Major: Anthropology
Cumulative GPA: 3.89
NCAA All-American in 5K … USTFCCCA All-Region in 5K and 10K … All-PSAC in 5K … Placed fifth at NCAA Indoor Championship in 5K with a time of 14:20.60 … Finished second at PSAC Indoor Championships in 5K after crossing finish line in 14:46.08 … Established a personal record in the 5K with a time 13:58.37 at Raleigh Relays, which was the fastest time in the PSAC this season and ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II … Crossed the finish line with a time of 29 minutes, 24.01 seconds while running in a field of over 40 distance standouts from schools across all NCAA divisions ... With his performance, he improved his NCAA provisional-qualifying time by over one minute and now boasts the fastest time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season by 21-plus seconds ... Provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10K with a personal-best time of 29:24.01 at Penn Relays, which ranked as the best time in the league and No. 7 in the country … A two-time NCAA All-American, Dinzeo holds the seventh-fastest time in the event this year in NCAA Division II ... Senior Glarius Rop of American International (Mass.) won the 10,000 meters at the Penn Relays with the fastest time in the country this season at 28:58.22.

National Champion in 10K run at NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 35:21.25 … national runner-up in the 5K run at the NCAA Championships … All-American in both the 10K and 5K … became the first national champion in Mansfield University history … 1st Team Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track and Field/Cross Country … finished 2nd in the 5K and 6th in the 1,500m at the PSAC Outdoor Championships … earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 10K and 5K …All-PSAC in the 5K … PSAC Track Athlete of the Week (3/26) … set career-bests in the 1,500m at 4.40.58 and the 10K at 34.51.66.
Kevin Jewel, Slippery Rock Men’s Track & Field, Senior

First team Capital One Academic All-District … All-American and runner up at national championships in 800m w/ SRU record 1:49.09 ... altitude conversion to 1:48.51 is the all-time PSAC record and fastest ever run by a PSAC athlete in the event ... PSAC Champion at 800-meters ... ran sub 1:50 three times this spring ... one of only 5 automatic qualifiers for nationals in the 800 ... also ran anchor leg of PSAC champion and SRU school record 4x800-meter relay outdoors ... USTFCCCA All-Region with the fastest 800-meter time in the Atlantic Region … will make USTFCCCA All-Academic team for the third consecutive year … member of the Dean’s List … taking two minors (coaching and biology) on top of health and physical education major.
Erin Kling, California Women’s Outdoor Track & Field, Senior

Broke school records in the 3K, 5K and 10K – all stood since 1984 … Qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 5K and 10K … Placed sixth in 10K at league championships with time of 37:17.96 … Set school record in 3K with time of 10:28.76 at Cal U Early Bird Invitational … Broke school record in 5K with time of 18:04.93 at Raleigh Relays … Established school record in 10K at Penn Relays after crossing finish line in 36:48.83 … reset her school record in the 10,000-meter run and the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays ran season-best times on Thursday at the Penn Relays … she placed 18th overall in a field of nearly 30 distance standouts from schools across all NCAA divisions with a time of 36 minutes, 48.83 seconds. Among NCAA Division II runners in the event, she finished in seventh place while breaking her school record.

2012-13 SU Men’s Student-Athlete of the Year … 2013 Capital One Third Team Academic All-American (SU’s first since 1995) … 2013 ABCA Third Team All-American …2013 NCBWA Third Team All-American … 2013 Daktronics Second Team All-American … 2013 Finalist for Willingham Award…Posted 3.83 semester GPA in Spring 2013 during his championship season…Earned All-PSAC East, All-Atlantic Region First Team honors … Led PSAC with 9 HRs, 60 RBIs … Hit .355 with 110 total bases, 15 doubles, 40 runs, a .411 OBP and a .591 slugging percentage … Was 9-5 with 3.47 ERA, striking out 68 batters in 93 IP and held opposing batters to a .222 average … Led the Raiders in hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging, sacrifice flies, pitching wins, ERA among starters and strikeouts (68) … Tallied 21 multiple-hit games and 19 games with multiple RBIs ... On final day of Atlantic Regional, Kregeloh earned ninth pitching victory with Game 1 victory over Seton Hill (throwing 124 pitches and 7 IP) and hit the deciding three-run homer in Game 2 that helped SU reach the national finals … Two-time PSAC Eastern Division and NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week … PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week.
Sarah Krolick, Edinboro Women’s Track & Field, Junior
Major: Human Performance
Cumulative GPA: 3.95
Earned All-American honors for the second time this year with eighth place finish at outdoor nationals in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:44.92 ... Narrowly missed becoming a two-time All-American, finishing ninth in the 5,000-meters at 17:30.16, only five seconds behind eighth … Was an All-American in cross country during the fall season ... Krolick qualified for nationals in the 10,000-meters with a time of 35:11.46 set at prestigious Penn Relays ... Finished fourth at PSAC Championships in the 5,000 meters (17:16.31) ... Was second in the 5,000 meters at the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte, with the fastest time of any Division II competitor (17:09.98) ... Also took fourth in the 5,000 meters at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic (16:57.82).
Jacob Pilarski, Mercyhurst, Men’s Golf, Senior
Major: Politcal Science
Cumulative GPA: 4.0
Pilarski shot a 76 on average this season … he took third at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational, shooting a 72 on 18 holes … the senior also placed sixth at Davis & Elkins, shooting 73-75 at the two-day event … he qualified for the NCAA Super Regional for the third straight season, finishing 27
th this year … In the final round of NCAA’s, Pilarski carded a score of 76 to finish with a score of 229 … He was the PSAC Champion Scholar in 2011 and 2012.
Matt Tholis, East Stroudsburg Men’s Track & Field, Senior
Major: Exercise Science
Cumulative GPA: 3.91
Tholis was the PSAC champion and NCAA Division II runner-up in the javelin … previously named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet at the PSAC Championships, and the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the year …Tholis hit a mark of 232-0, the 12th-best in DII history, to finish his career as the national runner-up ... had his previous season best of 226-5 at Lafayette and was the PSAC champion at 223-11 on May 11 … an All-American in both of his seasons of competition, placing seventh as a junior in 2012 before his runner-up finish … previously an NCAA DIII qualifier at Rowan in 2010 …Tholis hit a mark of at least 210-0 in his final seven collegiate meets, starting with a school-record 226-5 at Lafayette … followed with 222-1 at Millersville, 210-0 at Bucknell, 216-2 at ESU's All-American Meet, 213-11 at the Penn Relays, 223-11 at the PSAC Championships and broke his school record with 232-0 at the NCAA's … also named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.
