Kempa of IUP Headlines Men's Golf All-PSAC
All-PSAC History
Lock Haven, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, IUP men’s golf has garnered the PSAC Men’s
Golfer of the Year award, with
Zack Kempa earning the honors for the 2012-13 season. Gannon’s
Cameron Zbrzeznj earned Freshman of the Year status, while California’s
Peter Coughlin was named the men’s Coach of the Year.
Kempa, a junior, was also named to the Division II PING All-Atlantic Region team alongside his automatic first team All-PSAC selection for being crowned the individual medalist of the PSAC Championship tournament held in October. Kempa finished the season ranked 11
th in D-II with a team-best stroke average of 72.44. Over the course of the season, Kempa finished first or tied for first in three events, including winning the individual medal at the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional.
Gannon’s Cameron Zbrzeznj finished 10
th at the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional, just three strokes shy of a berth into the national championship. Zbrzeznj also finished a team-best 10
th at the PSAC Championship with a five over par score of 149 through two-days. He owned Gannon’s best stroke average at 76 per round and earned top 20 spots in 10 of 11 events during the season, including three top five performances.
The PSAC Coach of the Year distinction is the first for California’s Peter Coughlin, as he just wrapped-up his sixth year with the Vulcans. Coughlin led his squad to a second-place finish at the 2012 PSAC Championship with two golfers finishing in the top-five on the leaderboard. Coughlin has guided the Vulcans to NCAA post-season action in each of his six years, while also helping ink three golfers onto the 2013 All-PSAC teams.
Of the All-Conference selections,
Charlie Durman of California makes his second appearance on the first team alongside Kempa and IUP’s
Sean Sweithelm. Both Kempa and Sweithelm have earned three slots on an All-Conference squad during their collegiate campaigns.
