Cal's Maria Lopez Leads All-PSAC Women's Golf Team

All-PSAC History

Lock Haven, Pa. – California’s Maria Lopez was named the PSAC Golfer of the Year and Cara Vanderham received the PSAC Freshman of the Year honor for the 2012-2013 season.  California’s MerriLyn Gibbs claimed the PSAC Coach of the Year for the third time in five years.

During the year, Lopez participated in 10 events, posting 24 rounds for 1872 strokes, with an average of 78.-0.  Her low round was posted at 73, with 7 top-20 finishes.  Along with teammates Cara Vanderham and Inez Del Rosario, Lopez helped California finish ninth in the team standings at the NCAA National Championship, while also winning PSAC championshipsLopez, a senior posted 10-over 82 (44-38) to finished 43rd overall with a 31-over 319 (82-77-78-82).  Lopez played at the NCAA National Championships in each of her four years with the program.
 
Vanderham, the PSAC Freshman of the Year finished the 
 NCAA National tournament tied for 49th overall at 38-over 326 (87-77-81-81). Vanderham appeared in four tournaments in the fall, registering a scoring average of 81.6 strokes with two top-20 finishes and placed 10th overall in her collegiate debut with a 10-over 150 (75-77) at Carson-Newman Invitational.  She shot a 20-over 162 (77-85) to tie for seventh place at PSAC Championships and is a member of California University Athletic Department Honor Roll.

MerriLyn Gibbs of California University has won the 2013 PSAC Coach of the Year award for the third time in five years. Gibbs has led the Vulcans to unprecedented success with four-straight team appearances in the NCAA National Championships and four straight PSAC Championships. In the fall, the Vulcans finished either first or second in all four invitationals, highlighted by winning the PSAC Championships.
 
Among the All-Conference selections is Kim Thomas of California University receiving first team honors for the third consecutive season as she has helped lead the Vulcan’s to the NCAA National Championships for four consecutive years, posting ten events with an average of 79.7 and 8 top-20 finishes.  Gannon’s Bhanisha Nagindas and Amanda Teodorsson, both two-time All-PSAC first team honorees have received All-Conference credits for the 2013 season.
