Brenae Edwards, Mansfield’s first national champion, earned the PSAC Track Athlete of the Year for the 2013 season, while
April Doyle and
Katie Catania of Kutztown have been named the PSAC Field and Freshman Athletes of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2012-13 PSAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field postseason awards. Shippensburg’s
Dave Osanitsch claimed the Coach of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year.
Along with PSAC Track Athlete of the Year, graduate student Brenae Edwards ended the 2012-13 season with All-America honors, Academic All-District honors, and setting numerous records for Mansfield including a career best of 4:40.58 in the 1500m, 16:45.34 in the 5,000m, and 34:51.66 in the 10,000m. Along with her career best records, she became the first national champion in Mansfield history by winning the women’s 10,000m race at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a time of 35:21:25. She placed second at the national championship in the 5,000m with a time of 17:03.94 along with a second place finish at the PSAC Outdoor Championship. Edwards received USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honors and placed first in the 1500m at the LHU Qualifier.
Kutztown’s April Doyle was named to the USTFCCCA All-Atlantic
egion team and the Most Outstanding Women’s Field Athlete of the PSAC Outdoor Championship after becoming the first woman in PSAC history to win eight individual titles in one event. Not only did she win the shot put, she set the stadium-record for her mark of 13.84m. Over the course of the season, Doyle finished second or third in numerous events including the hammer throw with a distance of 48.08m at the PSAC Championship.
Katie Catania had an explosive start to her collegiate career at Kutztown finishing 16
th in the long jump at the NCAA Championships and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region team. Additionally, she won the long jump at the PSAC Championship with a distance of 5.79m. Catania was part of the 4x100 team that set the school-record at the PSAC Championship with a mark of 47.88m. Catania placed fourth in the triple jump at the PSAC Championship with a distance of 11.28m.
The PSAC Coach of the Year has been awarded to Dave Osantisch for the fourth-consecutive year in his eight-year career, as he guided Shippensburg to another nationally-ranked Top 10 program finish for the fifth-consecutive year. He led his team to an eighth-place finish at the 2012-2013 USTFCCCA Women’s Program of the Year standings and has directed Shippensburg to 20 PSAC Championships. In eight years, Osanitsch has garnered the PSAC Coach of the Year 19 times for both men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and was awarded all four Coach of the Year track & field honors given during the 2012-13 academic year.
