Football: Co-Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week
Brandon Monk
West Chester (Jr. /RB)
West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove

Brandon Monk carried the ball 36 times for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead No. 18 West Chester to a 35-24 victory over host East Stroudsburg Saturday. It marked a career-high for the junior running back and represents the fifth-most yards gained in a single game by a runner in school history. He scored the first touchdown of the game for the Golden Rams, while his second touchdown gave the Rams some breathing room at 28-17 in the fourth quarter. Monk averaged 7.1 yards per carry on the day.

Chris Lawshe
Shippensburg (Jr. /QB)

Caldwell, N.J. / James Caldwell

Junior quarterback Chris Lawshe provided 353 of Shippensburg’s 445 yards of total offense against Ktutztown, the No. 2 defense in the PSAC and the No. 13 total defense in Division II. Lawshe completed 29-of-36 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns in addition to leading the team by running 13 times for a career-high 102 yards in a 37-32 win in which the Raiders trailed 19-3 at halftime.

Joey Pham
Millersville (Jr. / CB)
Broomall, Pa. / Marple Newton


Cornerback Joey Pham set a Millersville record and came within one of the NCAA Division II single game record for pass breakups when he swatted away eight balls against Cheyney on Saturday. Pham's pass breakups accounted for over half of Cheyney's incomplete pass attempts. He also made four tackles and three solo stops in the 34-12 road victory.

Brendan Boylan
Mercyhurst (Jr. / QB)

Independence, Ohio / Holy Name

Mercyhurst’s Brendan Boylan established career-highs, and school records, by completing 37-of-49 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns without an interception in Mercyhurst's 59-49 win over California. He also rushed for 19 yards and another score in the victory. Boylan eclipsed single-game school records for completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total offensive yards, and touchdowns responsible for.

Marcus Martin
Slippery Rock (Fr. / DE)
West Mifflin, Pa. / West Mifflin


Martin recorded three solo sacks and four solo tackles for loss to lead a Rock defensive effort that held Clarion to just 148 total yards of offense, including just 51 total yards in the final three quarters. His numbers increase his SRU single-season school record for sacks to 16.0 and bring his tackles for loss total up to 22.5. He has 6.5 sacks more than any other player in the PSAC and 4.0 tackles for loss more than any other PSAC defender. The Rock defense has allowed 15 points and just 93 rushing yards in its last two games combined.

Luke Rankie
Gannon (Sr. / LB)
Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport

Rankie led Gannon to a 31-21 victory against IUP that clinched a share of the PSAC Western Division title, marking Gannon’s first divisional title in program history. He tied a season-high with a team-high 11 tackles and recorded two sacks in a game for the second time during his collegiate career. Rankie is Gannon’s second-leading tackler this season with 65 and has reached double digits in tackles twice during the last four games.


TEAM NOTES
 Bloomsburg
The fifth-ranked Huskies scored a 40-3 win at Lock Haven to move to 10-0, 9-0 PSAC East and set up a date in this Saturday's PSAC Championship Game at Slippery Rock in a re-match of last year's conference title game. Dai'Shon Munger led the way offensively at Lock Haven, carrying 22 times for 117 yards and a touchdown with Joe Parsnik adding 17 carries for a career-high 104 yards. Bloomsburg's stifling defense held Lock Haven to nine first downs and 165 total yards, limiting an opponent to 13 or fewer points for the sixth straight game. The Huskies had three interceptions on the day - Dylan Spangler, Ezra Ranco and Eric Schwartz all had picks to add to Bloomsburg's national-leading turnover margin. The win gives Bloomsburg its 10th season of 10 or more victories. This weekend the Huskies, ranked No. 1 in Super Region One, will aim for their first back-to-back PSAC Championship Game victories. 
 
California
Sophomore WR Garry Brown and junior QB James Harris both broke single-game school records on Saturday, as Cal U suffered a 59-49 loss at Mercyhurst. Brown tallied 282 receiving yards and three touchdowns on eight catches. He broke the previous school mark of 226 receiving yards set by Pete Gialames in 1968. Harris finished with 473 passing yards, including 299 yards in the second half, and four touchdowns. He eclipsed the previous record of 443 passing yards set by Kevin McCabe in 2008. The teams combined for 1,174 yards of total offense and scored touchdowns on seven-straight possessions in the fourth quarter. The Vulcans have lost four of the last five meetings against the Lakers and have lost three-straight games at Tullio Field. Cal U committed a season-low five penalties for 38 yards
 
Cheyney
The Wolves produced a season high 400 yards of offense but fell to Millersville 34-12 in the Wolves final home football game of the season. The Wolves featured a balanced attack, rushing for 197 yards and passing for 203 yards, also a season high. Freshman signal caller Dominick Trautz, starting his second game as a college quarterback, led the Wolves with 84 rushing yards on 11 carries and was 14-29 in the air for 203 yards. Trautz’s rush for 74 yards was the longest play of the season from scrimmage. Cheyney will end the season next week with a contest at Seton Hill. The Wolves celebrated Senior Day in a pre-game ceremony. Cheyney recognized the 12 seniors on the squad. Brandon Collins, Vaughn McEachin, Ernest Washington, Robert Brooks, Isaiah Fleming, Andrea Simpson, Deshawn Beecher, Jamil Williams, Eugene Moten, Adam Dolphin and Jordan Morris all played their final game in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium. 
 
Clarion
Clarion football drops to 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the West with a 45-8 loss to PSAC West champion Slippery Rock. Clarion scored first, but the Rock had 45 unanswered points. 2013 PSAC-West Defensive Player of the Year Julian Howsare continues his outstanding play. Led Clarion with 16 tackles and a blocked field goal on the day. He now leads the Clarion defense with 78 tackles, 42 solos. Also 9 sacks, 14 tfl’s, 2 blocked kicks, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 fumbles caused and an int. Career 248 tackles, 55 tfl’s, 37 sacks, 12 pass break-ups, 9 blocked kicks, 8 fumbles caused, 3 int’s 2 fumbles recovered. 10 Clarion Seniors will be honored on Senior Day next Saturday against Kutztown. Kickoff at Memorial is at Noon.
 
East Stroudsburg
ESU (6-4, 5-4) battled a top-20 opponent for the 2nd straight week but fell 35-24 to No. 18 West Chester on Saturday. The Warriors dropped a 34-13 decision at No. 6 Bloomsburg the previous week. ESU trailed 21-0 late in the 2nd quarter, then came back with 17 straight points and trailed 28-24 entering the 4th quarter. R-So. QB Bruce Campbell made his 2nd straight start, replacing Harlon Hill candidate R-Jr. QB Matt Soltes, who was injured in the 3rd quarter of a 31-16 loss to Kutztown on Oct. 25.  Campbell was 20-for-51 for 266 yards, 3 TD and 3 Int.  R-Jr. WR Jon Schnaars had his PSAC-leading 13th TD catch of the season.  He has a TD catch in 6 straight games and 9 of ESU’s 10 games this year.  Sr. WR Dusty Reed had 10 catches for 152 yards and moved back into the PSAC top 10 in yards per game (83.1).  Reed, a 2-time All-PSAC East 1st team pick, has missed 3.5 games due to injury.  He moved into 3rd at ESU in career receptions (175) and 4th in yards (2,675).  R-Sr. NG Bryan Thomson and Schnaars were named to the Capital One Academic All-District team last week.  Thomson has 67 tackles, 11 TFL and 6.5 sacks in the middle of ESU’s 3-3-5 defense.  Fr. K Matt Smith made a career-long 38-yard field goal and is 5-for-6 this season. ESU finishes its 41st year under Denny Douds (250-175-3) on Saturday at Gannon. Douds ranks 3rd in DII history and 20th in NCAA history with 250 career wins, and 1st/8th with 428 games coached.
 
Edinboro
Cody Harris returned after missing last week’s game against Slippery Rock with an injury to complete 27 of 34 passes for 310 with 2 TDs, adding a third touchdown rushing. It was his 11th 300-yard game. Harris has thrown for 2,123 yards, the eighth-highest single-season total. Darren Massey continued his record-breaking campaign with 8 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore already holds the season record for receptions with 76. He has scored 10 touchdowns, which is tied for third in a season, and his 844 yards receiving ranks fifth. Kyle Matula matched a career-high with 12 tackles, and the senior linebacker broke up three passes, the final two coming on Seton Hill’s last two plays. He also recovered a pair of onside kicks. Jim Wilson blocked his fourth extra point this season and the second in the last two weeks. His block on Seton Hill’s final touchdown forced the Griffins to go for a touchdown rather than a potential tying field goal. Seton Hill’s 69 pass attempts and 43 pass completions were both opponent records. O’Sha Jackson recorded his first career interception and Connor Hollenbeck scored his first career touchdown, a seven-yard reception
 
Gannon
Gannon won its fourth consecutive game with a 31-21 victory against Indiana (Pa.) last Saturday. The Golden Knights clinched a share of the PSAC Western Division, representing the first divisional title in school history. Gannon entered the game ranked third in the country in third-down conversion percentage and proceeded to convert 11 of 18 against IUP. The Crimson Hawks entered the contest ranked third in NCAA Division II in rushing defense, allowing 66.6 yards per game before Gannon churned out 150 yards on 39 carries. Gannon out-scored IUP 24-7 during the final 42 minutes. Junior Jesstin Hamm set a career-high with 175 receiving yards, surpassing his previous high of 171 set against Mercyhurst last season. His nine catches tied a career-high set earlier this season against Kutztown. Redshirt junior Liam Nadler extended his school-record total of 300-yard passing games to 11 with 304 yards and two touchdowns on a 20-of-36 chart. Senior Luke Rankie tied a season-high with a team-high 11 tackles. Rankie recorded two sacks in a game for the second time during his collegiate career. Gannon has won eight games for the first time since the 2003 squad went 9-1 as an NCAA Division II Independent. Rankie jumped Dan Tomko (2003-06) and moved into sixth place all-time at Gannon with 271 career tackles. Senior Justin Caliste broke Gannon's single-season reception record, finishing the game with 67 catches. Hamm moved past Pat Cain (2000-03) and into seventh place all-time at Gannon with 1,281 career receiving yards.
 
IUP
IUP fell to Gannon 31-21.
 
Kutztown
Kutztown fell to Shippensburg 37-32.
 
Lock Haven
The Lock Haven University football team fell to 2-8 overall and 2-7 in PSAC East action with Saturday’s 40-3 loss to No. 5 Bloomsburg. Highlighting the loss for Lock Haven was the play of senior defensive back George Christas. The Preseason All-American finished with a game-high 15 tackles, as he played in front of the home fans for the final time. It marked the fourth time this season that Christas has made 12 or more tackles in a single game. The LHU defense forced a pair of turnovers; marking the fourth straight game the Bald Eagles have forced a turnover. Lock Haven has forced at least one turnover in all, but one game this season. The Haven’s 10 interceptions are tied for fifth-most in the PSAC. LHU quarterback Caleb Walton moved one step closer to surpassing the 2,000-yard passing mark for a single season. He passed for 154 yards today, giving him 1,891 on the season – just 103 yards away form 2,000. On the season, Walton is averaging 189.1 yards per game through the air. Walton's 1,891 yards on the season already mark the sixth best single-season mark by a Lock Haven quarterback. In 21 career games, Walton has thrown for 3,047 yards, the eighth most in school history. Walton is aiming to become the first Lock Haven QB since 1995 to surpass 2,000 passing yards in a single season. It's only been done six times in school history.
 
Millersville
David Coates returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, breaking a 6-6 tie. It was the second return of his career and by game's end, Coates boosted his career return total to 134, setting a new Division II record. He finished the game with 3,011 yards, making him the second player to eclipse the 3,000-yard mark. Joey Pham set a Millersville record and came within one of a NCAA Division II record with eight pass breakups. Millersville put together two scoring drives of 17 plays and totaled three scoring drives of at least 80 yards. Mike Reichenbach caught his first TD pass of the season. Neil Moloney scored his first career touchdown on a fumble recovery. It was Millersville's second fumble recovery for touchdown this season. 
 
Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst defeated California 59-49.
 
Seton Hill
The Griffins rallied from down 31-14 with two late touchdowns but could not complete the comeback and dropped a 31-27 decision to the Fighting Scots. Again the Griffins outgained and out first downed another opponent. SHU held a 27-17 advantage in first downs and held a 499-388 advantage in total yards. Christian Strong was 43-69 for 445 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jarvis McClam and Eric Brown each had 13 catches on the day. McClam had 146 yards while Brown had 134. Josh Falatovich led the defense with 11 tackles. Tyler Zimmer added 9. SHU will close out the season next weekend when they host Cheyney for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for noon. 
 
Shippensburg
SHIP rallied for a 37-32 win over Kutztown to clinch its fourth straight winning season for the first time since 2001-04. The victory makes Mark Maciejewski '92/'96M the first SU head coach in the 110-year history of the program to begin his career with four straight winning seasons. Maciejewski has guided the Red Raiders to a 31-14 record and already ranks sixth all-time in school history for career coaching victories. Junior quarterback Chris Lawshe (Caldwell, NJ) provided 353 of SU's 445 yards of total offense, completing 29-of-36 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns in addition to leading the team by running 13 times for a career-high 102 yards. Shippensburg managed to improve its all-time record at home against Kutztown to 30-3, as the Red Raiders have won 10 straight over the Golden Bears dating back to 1995. It was SU's fourth straight win over KU. Saturday's game was just the sixth time in 45 career games as a head coach that Maciejewski has had a game decided by 10 points or less – including the third this season (L, 30-38 at Bloomsburg, L, 33-37 vs. ESU). Lawshe broke the single-season school record for rushing yards by a quarterback (456), eclipsing the old record (364) set by Zach Zulli in 2011. SU ran for 194 yards, bringing its season total to 2,500 through 10 games, just 132 yards shy of matching the single-season school record (2,632) set in 2003. SU is now 12-4 in games in which both Harman and Mayer catch a touchdown. SU is now 17-5 at home under Maciejewski and has scored at least 17 points in all 22 home games under Maciejewski. SU has scored three touchdowns and tallied at least 21 points in 20 straight games.
 
Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock won at Clarion for the 11th consecutive time in the series with the last Clarion home win coming in 1993. It was the fifth straight win in the series for SRU and fifth time SRU has won the Milk Jug trophy. Marcus Martin increased his school sack record with 3.0 more sacks and has 16.0 on the season already. Jared Buck threw for a career-high 345 yards. Shamar Greene ran for more than 100 yards for the third week in a row and the seventh time this season. Greene moved up to sixth on the single-season rushing ledger at SRU and has 1,343 yards so far this year, nearly doubling his former career-high of 727 set last fall. George Mihalik won his 184th career game and coached his 296th game as the head coach at SRU. Mihalik also won his 110th PSAC-West game. The Rock held Clarion to just 40 rushing yards, marking the sixth time this season a team ran for less than 75 yards against SRU. SRU has allowed just 15 points and 93 total rushing yards in the last two games combined. Mike Wainauskis kicked his 10th field goal of the year to move into fifth in single-season made field goals at SRU. SRU won the PSAC-West for the second year in a row, the third time in the last four years and the 14th total time. SRU will play for the PSAC title for the third time in the last four years and will host the State Game for the first time in that stretch. Kickoff against Bloomsburg in a rematch of last year's title game is set for 12:05 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Nov. 15.
 
West Chester
West Chester improves to 57-22 all-time against East Stroudsburg. Sr. QB Sean McCartney completed 12 of 21 passes for 172 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He became just the third passer in school history to surpass both 8,000 career passing yards (8,550) and 80 TDs (82). RB Brandon Monk ran for the fifth-most yards in a game in West Chester history, finishing with 257 yards on 36 attempts, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. It was his career high in both yards and rushes. TE Tim Brown caught three passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns. WR Mike Doty caught four passes for 72 yards and one touchdown. LB Mike Labor had seven tackles to lead the team. He is now eight tackles away from passing Eric Edwers for seventh on West Chester's career assists in tackles. West Chester was 2-2 on fourth down. The Golden Rams’ defense held the Warriors to 75 total-rushing yards.
