FINAL RECAP

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team won its seventh consecutive PSAC title on Saturday, capping off another truly-dominant three-day performance with 244 points for a 110-point victory at the 2015 PSAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships contested at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team claimed its sixth consecutive league title on Saturday. SU scored 175 points, a 61-point victory over Slippery Rock.

 
Shippensburg swept the major PSAC Championships awards. Senior LeQuan Chapman repeated his feat of the indoor season in being named the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Championships Most Valuable Athlete after winning league titles in the long jump (Friday) and triple jump (Saturday) while also running on the second-place 4x100-meter relay.
 
Senior Peter Gelston was named 2015 PSAC Championships Most Outstanding Track Athlete after his epic steeplechase on Friday and then coming back Saturday to finish second in the 5K. Senior Grant Smith was named the 2015 PSAC Championships Most Outstanding Field Athlete after winning the shot put and hammer throw on Friday and scoring Saturday in the discus.
 
California’s Alexandra Zanella was awarded both the Most Outstanding Track Athlete and Most Valuable Athlete, while Seton Hill’s Mallory Sanner was awarded the Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the meet.
 
Zanella took first place in the 1,500-meter run, with an NCAA provisional time of 4:34.00.
 
Sanner recorded the only NCAA automatic bid of the PSAC outdoor season. The Seton Hill senior set a meet and PSAC conference record of 50.20m (164’ 8”) in the javelin to win the event by over eight feet. Six other throwers recorded NCAA provisional marks in the event: Slippery Rock’s Samantha Taylor (47.60m / 156’ 2”), Seton Hill’s Jessica Slagus (43.51m / 142’ 9”), Bloomsburg’s Morgan Nicholas (42.98m / 141’), Shippensburg’s Crystal Hartman (42.42m / 139’ 2”), Millersville’s Amanda Myers (41.25m / 135’ 4”), and Shippensburg’s Dyhana Santos (40.97m / 134’ 5”).
 
Shippensburg sophomore Sarah Hunt set an Eiler-Martin Stadium record in the women’s triple jump, with a distance of 12.15m (39’ 10.5”). The jump provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championship. IUP’s Brooke Smay also recorded a “B” cut with a jump of 11.94m (39’ 2.25”).
 
Raider Tamara Ovejera won the women’s discus title over defending champion Kayla Owens of West Chester. Ovejera threw 44.90m (147’ 4”) to top Owens’ throw of 44.31m (145’ 4”).
 
On the track, two women’s 4x100 relay teams broke East Stroudsburg’s stadium record set a year ago. The first place California team of Gabrielle Irving, Danae Burgwin, Bria Jay, and Monique Sims crossed the line in a time of 46.99. The Shippensburg relay team also broke the previous record with a 47.62 cut, finishing second.
 
In the relays, Shippensburg women won the 4x800 in a time of 9:25.69. Raider women also won the 4x400, breaking a 1977 stadium record with a time of 3:49.03.
 
Seton Hill’s Jenna Bracken broke a 30-year old Eiler-Martin record, running 14.39 and finishing first in the 100 hurdles. Meanwhile, Millersville’s Erin Madison broke a nine-year old record in the 400 hurdles previously held by a Division I Lafayette runner. Madison finished first and ran 1:00.78. Tatiana Cloud of Clarion finished second with a time of 1:01.73, while both runners recorded NCAA provisional cuts.
 
In the women’s 400-meter run, Shippensburg’s Briana Fells (55.19) and teammate Megan Lundy (56.73) finished first and second, respectively. Both Raider runners broke East Stroudsburg’s Danielle Smith’s stadium record and provisionally qualified for NCAAs.
 
Slippery Rock’s Jasmine Bailey won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.63.
 
Millersville’s Kiara Allen ran 11.91 in the 100-meter dash to also break a stadium record and record an NCAA B cut.
 
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds claimed the women’s 5,000-meter title, repeating her indoor accolade, in a time of 17:35.09.
 
On the men’s side, the Raider team of Mathieu Bee, Matthew Sankey, Dan Dreeman, and Nicholas Gibson set a PSAC Championship meet record in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:41.44.
 
The East Stroudsburg team of Juwaan Walker, Derrick Washington, Ronald D’Eliseo and Damien Boham broke their own stadium record set a year ago. The 4x400 relay team crossed the line in a combined time of 3:14.12.
 
The California contingent of Julius Rivera, Joe Vedilago, Corey Allen, and Francis Jajua claimed the 4x100 relay title with a time of 41.41.
 
East Stroudsburg junior Steven Morgan broke a 2009 Eiler-Martin record with a 14.32 cut in the 110-hurdles.
 
In the 400-hurdles, four runners provisionally qualified for NCAAs. Shippensburg’s Eric Bologa finished first in a stadium record-breaking time of 52.01. California’s Savon Salter finished second (52.14), East Stroudsburg’s Ronald D’Eliseo finished third (52.824), while Slippery Rock’s Jacob VanHouten rounded out the top four (52.830).
 
California freshman Julius Rivera duplicated his indoor 100-meter title, running 10.76 in the outdoor finals.
 
Rock senior Hunter Williams claimed the 200-meter crown, running 21.766. Cheyney’s Kalik Mitchel made it a photo finish, placing second with a time of 21.770.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Derrick Washington won the 400-meter run in a stadium-record time of 47.72. Shippensburg’s Andrew Kujawski also broke the previous record, finishing second with a 47.79 cut.
 
IUP freshman Austin Cooper won the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:55.45 while Shippensburg sophomore Kieran Sutton claimed the 5,000-meter title with a time of 14:51.03.
 
In the field, Kutztown’s Lanny Buck repeated as men’s pole vault champion, clearing 5.01m (16’ 5.25”). Slippery Rock’s Jordan Pacheco placed second with a jump of 4.81m (15’ 9.25”). Both vaulters provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
 
Most Valuable Athlete Chapman won the triple jump while breaking a stadium record that has stood since 1979. The senior leaped 15.10m (49’ 6.5”) to provisionally qualify for NCAAs. Rock freshman Caleb Smithco finished second with a distance of 14.77m (48’ 5.5”), also an NCAA B cut.
 
East Stroudsburg junior Will Berry claimed the high jump crown with a jump of 2.08m (6’ 9.75”) and no misses at that height. Shippensburg’s Tra-C Davis placed second after clearing the same height but registering two misses. IUP freshman Charles Wilson-Adams jumped 2.05m (6’ 8.75”) to place third. The top three finishers all posted NCAA provisional marks.
 
In the throws, four athletes provisionally qualified in the javelin event. Rahjeir Miles-Eubanks of Lock Haven led the pack with a throw of 65.57m (215’ 1”). Shippensburg’s Jacob Sunday was second (62.78m / 206’), Slippery Rock’s David Reinhardt placed third (60.33m / 197’ 11”), and Shippensburg’s Andrew Korrubin was fourth (59.46m / 195’ 1”).
 
Raider Charlito Iwuagwo set a new Eiler-Martin mark while placing first in the discus, throwing 51.52m (169’). Teammate Ryan Hart placed second with 50.95m (167’ 2”), and Lock Haven’s Brice Beals finished third 49.83m (163’ 6”). All three throwers provisionally qualified for the national championships.

DAY TWO RECAP

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Day Two of action at the 2015 PSAC Track & Field Championships has concluded at East Stroudsburg University.

On the men's side, Shippensburg's Grant Smith was a repeat champion in the shot put, with a winning throw of 17.93m (58' 10"). Grant's throw provisionally qualified for NCAAs. Other provisional qualifies included: Slippery Rock's Trevor Miller who finished second (16.56m / 54' 4"), Lock Haven's Jake Heim who finished third (16.20m / 53' 1.25"), and East Stroudsburg's Mike Smith who finished fourth (15.97m / 52' 4.75").

Smith also took first place in the hammer throw, with a toss of 56.52m (185' 5"). East Stroudsburg's Jack Rosenstein placed second with a distance of 55.30m (181' 5"). Both Smith and Rosenstein threw an NCAA B cut.

Indoor long jump champion LeQuan Chapman of Shippensburg also won the outdoor title, with a winning leap of 7.36m (24' 1.75"), an NCAA provisional qualifier. Indoor runner-up Caleb Smithco of Slippery Rock finished second with an NCAA provisional mark of 7.27m (23' 10.25").

On the track Shippensburg senior Peter Gelston barely missed an NCAA automatic bid in the steeplechase, running an 8:53.65 and breaking the 26-year old championship meet record. Fellow Raider Chris Mullin placed second in the event and provisionally qualified for NCAAs with a time of 9:20.30.

Edinboro's Cory Wefing claimed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.88 to round out Friday's track events.

On the women's side, Millersville sophomore Abbey Daley broke the Eiler-Martin Stadium record in the steeplechase, placing first with an NCAA B cut of 10:58.31. Seton Hill's Chelsia Poole placed second with a time of 10:59.72. 

California's Alexandra Zanella won the 800-meter race with an NCAA provisional time of 2:13.19.

In the field, East Stroudsburg's Christina O'Connor repeated as high jump champion, clearing 1.71m (5' 7.25"). Slippery Rock teammates Ashley West and Sabrina Anderson placed second and third, respectively, both clearing 1.68m (5' 6"). Bloomsburg's Joselyn Estrada-Pascual also cleared 1.68m, placing fourth. The top four finishers all provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship.

Bloomsburg's Kaylee Caruso claimed the women's long jump crown, clearing 5.91m (19' 4.75"). Shippensburg's Sarah Hunt placed second with a flight of 5.80m (19' 0.5"); both Caruso and Hunt posted NCAA B cuts.

Indoor pole vault champion Kaitlyn Clark of Slippery Rock claimed the outdoor title with a height of 3.77m (12' 4.5"). Kutztown junior Emma Sullivan placed second at 3.67m (12' 0.5") while Rock freshman Courtney McQuaide also cleared 3.67m to claim third.

West Chester senior Kayla Owens successfully defended her shot put title, throwing 14.29m (46' 10.75"). Shippensburg senior Elizabeth Ross placed second with a throw of 14.17m (46' 6") and Cheyney's Jada Phillips was third with a heave of 13.71m (44' 11.75"). All three shot-putters provisionally qualifed for the NCAA Championship. 

Millersville junior Vanessa Hower claimed the hammer throw crown, throwing 51.03m (167' 5"). Teammate Ann Kovacs cleared 50.97m (167' 3") as both Marauders posted NCAA B cuts.

DAY ONE RECAP

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - At the conclusion of Day One Edinboro and Bloomsburg women were tied atop the standings with 10 points apiece while Lock Haven men led the pack with 24 points. Defending men's champion Shippensburg was in second with nine points while the women's team recorded no points.

On the track, Bloomsburg freshman Hannah Boudreau claimed the 10,000m title with a 37:02.19 cut. Kutztown's Corinne Manela finished second in 37:05.57 while Fighting Scot Anna Hosl placed third with a time of 37:07.59.

The Lock Haven men swept the top three spots in the men's 10,000m: Ben Robinson took first (31:31.00), Addison Monroe second (31:31.04), and Zach Mains placed third (31:37.14).



PSAC OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
 
The PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be contested at East Stroudsburg University’s Eiler-Martin Stadium from Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2.

 
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The Shippensburg Raiders have won the last six PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Titles. The Raiders boast 22 overall outdoor conference track and field titles, while West Chester holds the most in the league with 24.
 
The men’s championship will feature 11 returning champions from 2014.
 
Shippensburg’s Robert Bales won the 400m dash a year ago with a time of 47.97. The senior currently owns a time of 48.76 this year, which ranks him fifth in the league.
 
Fellow Raider Eric Bologa won the 400m hurdles title last season with a time of 52.41. The senior currently leads the conference with an NCAA provisional time of 52.65 this season.
 
Steven Morgan, the 2014 PSAC Freshman of the Year from East Stroudsburg, returns to defend his 110m hurdles title. Morgan ran a 14.69 a year ago, and has a league-leading time of 14.44 coming into the weekend.
 
On the field side, ESU’s Will Berry looks to repeat at high jump champion. Berry cleared 2.09m a year ago, and sits second in the PSAC with a height of 2.10m this season.
 
Kutztown’s Lanny Buck cleared 5.02m last year to claim the pole vault title. Buck again leads the pack this season with a 5.10m clearance, and is the only PSAC athlete to clear the 5m mark.
 
Fellow Golden Bear Tyler Brooks will look to defend his triple jump title, as he jumped 14.81m a year ago.
 
Shippensburg throwers Grant Smith and Ryan Hart look to repeat in the shot put and discus events, respectively. Smith leads the PSAC with a throw of 17.88m, while Hart ranks first in the conference with a distance of 52.76m.
 
 
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
Shippensburg has owned the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field hardware for the past five years and has eight total titles to its name. Slippery Rock boasts the most titles in the league with 17. Prior to the Raiders winning in 2010, The Rock had won the crown the previous four seasons.
 
The women’s championship will feature 12 returning champions from 2014.
 
On the track, Millerville’s Kiara Allen is seeking a repeat 100m title. Allen clocked in at 11.79 a year ago, and ranks first in the PSAC this season with 12.02.
 
Slippery Rock’s Jasmine Bailey will look to defend her 200m dash crown, as she ran 25.34 last season. The Rock junior again leads the pack this year with a 24.70 heading into championships.
 
In the middle distance events, Megan Lundy of Shippensburg won the 400m event a year ago, crossing the line in 55.17. The junior currently sits second in the league behind teammate Briana Fells with a time of 56.78.
 
Edinboro senior Allison Gibbens won the 800m race a year ago with a 2:14.88 time. Gibbens’ top time this season is 2:13.69, which ranks third in the league.
 
Alexandra Zanella of California leads a group of 1500m runners this season with a time of 4:37.32. Zanella won the event last year with a 4:36.57 cut.
 
On the distance side, fellow Vulcan Julie Friend will look to defend her hardware in the 5000m run. Friend clocked in at 17:28.99 last year.
 
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds, the 2014 10000m champion, currently holds the league’s top times in both the 5000m (16:53.93) and the 10000m (35:28.34).
 
In the field, East Stroudsburg’s Christina O’Connor looks to reclaim her high jump title. O’Connor cleared 1.72m a year ago, and owns a PSAC-leading height of 1.73m this season.
 
Kayla Owens of West Chester, who currently owns a NCAA provisional mark of 13.95m in the shot put, will look to repeat as champion after throwing the same distance a year ago.
 
Kutztown’s Nicole Wildermuth claimed the discus crown last year with a throw of 41m, and ranks seventh in the PSAC this season.
 
Slippery Rock junior Samantha Taylor won the javelin title a year ago by over four meters. She currently leads the PSAC by over five meters with her season-high distance of 48.41m.
 
In the heptathlon, Edinboro’s Brianne Dietrich will look to repeat her 2014 title. Dietrich currently leads the pack after scoring 4,548 points earlier this season.
