Jimmy Terwilliger Named Assistant Football Coach at ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG - Jimmy Terwilliger, East Stroudsburg University's record-setting quarterback and the 2005 Harlon Hill Award winner as the most outstanding player in Division II football, has been named an assistant football coach for the Warriors and will coach the defensive backs during the 2015 season.
 
Terwilliger, previously the quarterbacks coach at Parkland High School last fall following five years as head coach at Pleasant Valley High School, joins his father Mike Terwilliger on the Warriors' coaching staff under the direction of 42nd-year head coach Denny Douds. Mike Terwilliger, ESU's offensive coordinator, enters his 38th season on Douds' staff.
 
"We are excited to add an outstanding football coach to our staff," said Douds. "Jimmy has a rich tradition at ESU as one of the great competitors in our program and in the PSAC. We look forward to having him on our sideline."

Terwilliger graduated with 18 NCAA Division II records and two NCAA all-division records as part of an All-America career at ESU from 2003-06.
 
He led the Warriors to two NCAA DII Playoff appearances (2004 and 2005) and won the Northeast Region title in 2005, advancing to the national semifinals.
 
He tied the NCAA all-division record for touchdown passes (148) and set DII career records for total offense (16,064 yards), passing yards (14,350), pass efficiency (170.7), touchdowns responsible for (161) and points responsible for (966) during his four years at ESU.
 
In his record-setting 2005 season, Terwilliger threw for 4,571 yards and 50 touchdowns, and ran for 389 yards and four TD for 4,960 yards of total offense, leading the Warriors to an 11-3 record.
 
He was the first quarterback in DII history with 3,000 yards of total offense in each of his four seasons. He gained 3,342 total yards as a redshirt freshman in 2003, still a PSAC freshman record, while leading the Warriors to the PSAC East regular season title. He had 4,292 total yards in 2004, 4,960 in 2005 and 3,470 as a senior in 2006.
 
Terwilliger was twice named to the AP Little All-America second team as a junior in 2005, and senior in 2006. He earned Daktronics All-America honors in 2004 (2nd team) and 2005 (1st team), Football Gazette All-America in 2004 (3rd team) and 2005 (1st team) and D2football.com All-America in 2005 (2nd team).

He was a three-time first team Daktronics All-Region selection (2004-06) and a three-time PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year (2003-04, 2006). He is the only quarterback in PSAC East history to be named first team all-conference in each of his four seasons.
 
Terwilliger was a four-time Harlon Hill candidate and three-time finalist. He finished fifth in 2004 and fourth in 2006, along with receiving the award in 2005.
 
He was also a four-time recipient of ESU's Outstanding Player award and Redshirt Award.
 
Terwilliger graduated from ESU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. He was named to the PSAC Top 10 in 2005 and 2006 and was an Academic All-District selection in 2004.
 
Terwilliger was a health and physical education teacher the last eight years, spending the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years at East Stroudsburg South (10th-12th grades), the next five years at Pleasant Valley (9th-12th grades) and the 2014-15 academic year in the Parkland school district (K-5th grades).
 
Terwilliger helped Parkland to the District 11 championship in 2014 after leading Pleasant Valley to the District playoffs three times (2010, 2012, 2013) in five years as head coach. He coached PV to the Mountain Valley Conference championship in 2010 and was named the MVC Coach of the Year.

He was an assistant coach under his high school coach, Ed Christian, at East Stroudsburg South in 2007 and 2008 and helped the Cavaliers to a pair of District playoff appearances.
