PSAC Athletes of the Week - 2/15 Monday, February 15, 2016 2:30 PM Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Christian Mortellite Bloomsburg (So. / G / F) Hammonton, N.J. / Hammonton Mortellite helped the Huskies move into a tie for third place in the PSAC East standings with a perfect 2-0 week. The redshirt sophomore averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as Bloomsburg knocked off Kutztown at home on Wednesday and Lock Haven, on the road, on Saturday. In Wednesday's overtime victory over Kutztown, Mortellite posted his third double-double in five games, scoring a game-high 25 points while grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. He also had four assists in the victory and his putback with five seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime. He scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half and overtime with six points coming during the extra session. On Saturday, Mortellite scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as the Huskies built up a big lead after twenty minutes. He finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the win. Mortellite remains fifth in the PSAC in scoring (first in the East) by averaging 19.1 points per game. Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week Antonio Kellem Shippensburg (Fr. / F) Conway, Pa. / Lincoln Park Kellem poured in 37 points and 15 rebounds this week, further improving his season averages as SU went 2-0. Against Millersville, Kellem went off for 23 points, shooting 9-of-12 (75.0) from the field and making 5-of-6 three-point attempts. He also had seven rebounds and an assist with just one turnover. At that point, Kellem was 19-for-23 in two games. Against Cheyney on Saturday Kellem contributed 14 points, a career-high five assists, and tied a career-high with eight rebounds in just 24 credited minutes. He averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the week. Kellem is SU's third-leading scorer, most accurate three-point shooter, and is shooting 53.5 percent from the field for the season. Men's Basketbal: Western Division Athlete fo the Week Cornelius Brown Slippery Rock (Sr. / F) Bridgeport, Conn. / Warren Harding Brown put up back-to-back double-doubles in a dominant week to lead Slippery Rock to a road win at California and to a victory over first place Indiana that snapped the Crimson Hawks' 13-game winning streak. He scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 57-48 win over California on 7-of-12 shooting. Brown topped that by scoring a game-high 23 points and pulling down 17 rebounds in the 73-61 win over Indiana. He was 7-of-9 from the field in that outing to finish the week 14-of-21 from the field (66.7%) with per game averages of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Men's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Dante Lombardi IUP (Fr. / G) Indiana, Pa. / The Kiski School Lombardi tied his season-high in field goals, recording seven against Slippery Rock on Saturday. His three steals at Slippery Rock were also a season-high. He recorded his seventh double-digit scoring game of the season and his 18 points were one shy of tying his season-high. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Co-Athlete of the Week Katie Fitzpatrick Mansfield (Sr. / G / F) Drexel Hill, Pa. / Upper Darby Fitzpatrick recorded just the second triple-double in program history and only the eight this season in women's NCAA Division II in Tuesday's 68-57 win over Mercy. The senior scored a team-high 17 points, pulled down 12 boards and recorded a career-high 10 assists. Fitzpatrick led the team in scoring again in an 81-71 loss at division-leading West Chester with 18 points and six rebounds. Fitzpatrick moved past Jess Uhrich for fifth on the MU all-time scoring list in Saturday's game. She nearly averaged a double-double for the week with 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds an outing. Fitzpatrick is currently eighth in the PSAC in scoring at 16.2 ppg and is 13th in rebounding at 7.6 rpg. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Co-Athlete of the Week J.J. Hilliard Lock Haven (Sr. / G) Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty Hilliard led LHU to pair of key PSAC East wins last week. She averaged 20.5 points per game in wins over Cheyney and Bloomsburg, scoring 25 and 16 points, respectively. Hilliard’s 25 points vs. Cheyney matched a career-high. She also had five rebounds and five assists. She added 16 points in a huge win over Bloomsburg. Hilliard had five assists and four boards vs. Bloomsburg. Lock Haven has won four of its last five and is pushing closer to its second straight PSAC tournament appearance, something LHU hasn’t done in nearly 25 years. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week Kendra Bamberger Millersville (Fr. / F) Blandon, Pa. / Fleetwood In the Marauders' only game of the week, Bamberger helped them to a key PSAC East road victory over then first-place Shippensburg. Bamberger scored 10 points, hitting 5-of-5 shots from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Bamberger also helped at the defensive end where Millersville held the Raiders to 24 points below their season scoring average and to a season-low 50 points. Women's Basketball: Western Division Athlete of the Week Megan Smith IUP (So. / G) Blain, Pa. / West Perry Smith recorded her third double double of the year with 25 points and 12 rebounds at Slippery Rock on Saturday. The 25 points and 12 rebounds are new career highs for Smith. She had nine field goals against both Clarion and Slippery Rock, which were career-highs Smith's six three-pointers at Slippery Rock were a career-high, also the second most single game total in school history. Women's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Michelle Jahn Edinboro (Fr. / G) Edinboro, Pa. / General McClane Jahn scored a career high 28 points in the Fighting Scots comeback win at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday night. She also recorded three steals and four rebounds in the win. On Saturday, Jahn recorded 13 points on 5 of 13 shooting, while also grabbing two rebounds in the win. Wrestler of the Week Tyler Reinhart Pitt-Johnstown (R-So.) Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg/Salem In Pitt-Johnstown's win over Mercyhurst that clinched a Dual Meet Conference Championship for the Mountain Cats, Reinhart had a pivotal victory, defeating Francis Mizia to draw UPJ to within two points. Mizia was ranked second in Division II entering Saturday's dual. Reinhart won the decision, 5-3. Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Akeim Thomas East Stroudsburg (Fr. / Hurdles) Upper Darby, Pa. / Upper Darby Thomas ran a time of 8.13 in the 60m hurdles, the PSAC's top time this year and t-14th on the DII national list, at the Fast Track National Invitational at Staten Island on Friday. The time is #2 at ESU and shatters a freshman record. Thomas moved .01 ahead of ESU junior Steven Morgan (8.14 previous week) on the PSAC list this year. Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week LeQuan Chapman Shippensburg (Sr. / Jumps) Reading, Pa. / Exeter Chapman delivered two significant season bests and NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the field. He placed third in the long jump and second in the triple jump. Chapman's long jump of 23 feet, 10 inches became the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) lead and put him 19th on the NCAA Division II performance list. His triple jump of 47 feet, 11 inches ranks second in the conference and 27th in Division II. The performances came in Boston at the Hemery Valentine Invitational Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Alex Zanella California (Sr. / Distance) Everett, Pa. / Everett Zanella registered the fastest time in the PSAC in the 1-mile run on Friday at the Fastrack National Qualifier in New York. She posted a time of 4 minutes, 57.84 seconds in the event while competing in a field primarily from NCAA Division I programs. Zanella now holds the fastest time in the mile this season in the league by over five seconds, 29th nationally. The senior standout also improved her league-qualifying mark in the 800-meter by nearly two seconds after crossing the finish line in 2:20.24, again while running against primarily NCAA Division I programs. Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Lindsay Hepburn Lock Haven (Sr. / Throws) Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Hepburn had another big weekend for LHU. She won the weight throw in Boston at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Hepburn’s mark of 55-02.00 won by nearly a foot and marks an NCAA Division II provisional mark. She was first out of 57. Although just shy of her season-best and PSAC leading throw of 57-03.75, it was the best PSAC mark of the weekend in the event. She added a 17th place finish in the shot put (38-07.00, #PSAC).
