Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week
7182 Amir Hinton

Hinton capped the regular season in a big way. Over last week’s two-game span, he averaged 34.5 points which included a 42-point effort in a win over Mansfield that clinched Lock Haven’s fourth straight playoff berth. On Saturday, at Bloomsburg, Hinton scored 27 points. With the regular season in the books, Hinton takes 629 points into the postseason. The 629 points are the most ever by a PSAC freshman for a single season and are just 11 away from breaking the all-time LHU single-season scoring record. In 26 games this season, Hinton averaged 24.2 points per game, which led the entire PSAC during the regular season. In the win over Mansfield Wednesday, he added seven rebounds and four steals to go along with his 42 points. At Bloomsburg Saturday, he had 27 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals

Castello secured his seventh double-double of the season as scored 10 points and added 11 rebounds in a team-high 36 minutes in SU's 67-59 win over East Stroudsburg. Castello was vital in SU limiting ESU to its season-low in points as the Warriors were held to nearly 30 points below their season average.

Patton, Pa. / Cambria Heights

Vescovi averaged 18 points and 6.5 boards in a pair of wins. The junior dropped 21 points and swiped seven rebounds while dishing out two assists in a win against Seton Hill. The junior followed up with a 15-point effort and six rebounds in a win against Slippery Rock.

Wise averaged 10 points and 2.5 rebounds to go with 1.5 assists in a pair of wins. The freshman scored 11 points in a win against Seton Hill before shooting 4-of-6 from the floor in a win against Slippery Rock.

TEAM NOTES

California: The Vulcans ended their season with a pair of losses last week to Mercyhurst and No. 2 IUP. Under first-year head coach Kent McBride, Cal U posted a 10-18 overall record with a 7-15 mark in league play for a three-win improvement from last season. Junior Robel Teckle averaged 13.2 points over the last 10 games of the season, including 26 points on Wednesday in a double-overtime loss at Mercyhurst. He also registered his third double-double of the season, all in the last eight games, on Saturday against IUP. Fellow junior Tony Richardson led the team with a career-high 215 rebounds, including 103 offensive rebounds after totaling 65 rebounds over the previous two years. Classmate Luka Andjusic led the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game while making 64-of-175 attempts from three-point territory. Cal U averaged 71.8 points per game this season, which is over a 4.5-point improvement from last year.

Gannon: Gannon rallied from an eight-point deficit with 14 minutes to play during an 82-76 victory against Mercyhurst during the Golden Knights’ only action of the week … Gannon retained possession of the Porreco Pride of Erie Game trophy awarded to the winning team during the rivalry's regular-season games … senior Matthew Dogan received the Porreco Pride of Erie "Game Changer Award" given to the student-athlete who had the most impact on the outcome of the game … Dogan recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists .. the stat line included 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists during the second half … Dogan reached double digits in scoring for the 23rd consecutive game, scoring at least 20 points for the third consecutive contest and 10th time this season … Gannon shot 50 percent or better for the fifth consecutive game and 11th time this season … the Golden Knights won for the ninth time this season when either trailing or being tied at halftime … Gannon's five consecutive games of 50-percent shooting or better represents its best streak since doing so six straight games from November 28-December 29, 2008 … the Golden Knights have out-rebounded eight consecutive opponents … the squad has produced two eight-game streaks and one of seven games this season … Gannon completed its second season sweep of Mercyhurst during the last three years … the Golden Knights improved to 52-22 all-time against the Lakers, including a 28-9 edge at the Hammermill Center … junior Zay Jackson made his 81st three-pointer of the season, moving into a tie with Keith Danzy (1993-94) for the seventh-highest single-season total in school history … freshman Jimmy Berger moved into Gannon's all-time single-season top 10 in assists with 169, tying Camara Mintz's 2002-03 total … Gannon improved to 12-1 this season when scoring at least 80 points and 78-6 all-time under head coach John T. Reilly … the Golden Knights enter the PSAC Tournament as the second seed in the Western Division with a first-round bye … Gannon hosts the winner of Monday's first-round contest between Pitt-Johnstown (West #3 seed) and Seton Hill (West #6 seed) Wednesday, March 1 in the conference quarterfinals at the Hammermill Center.

Millersville: Millersville beat Cheyney its season finale, giving first-year head coach Casey Stitzel five more wins in his first season than the Marauders produced in 2015-16. Millersville also won four more conference games. Three of the team's four leading scorers were newcomers. Marcus Adkison led the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game, which is the highest full season scoring average (played more than 20 games) by a Marauder since Reggie Bates' 19.2 in 2007-08. Adkison made 4-of-5 threes against Cheyney. His four threes boosted his season total to 77, putting him a tie with Kevin Towns (1995-96) for the seventh-most in a single season at Millersville. Adkison made more threes than any other Marauder since Gerald Redding's 78 in 2002-03. Jordan Greene closed the season by scoring in double figures in 11 of the last 13 games. He scored a career-high 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting against his former team, West Chester.
