DANBURY, Conn. ---
IUP football and head coach Paul Tortorella has been named the 2017 Lambert Cup recipients for NCAA Division II as the top team in the East in a poll conducted by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers. The trophy is part of this year's Lambert Meadowlands Awards and announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Monday morning.

The award will be presented at the 82nd Eastern College Football Awards Banquet in the Toyota Club at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Feb. 22.

This is IUP's 12th Lambert Division II Cup, as Tortorella and the Crimson Hawks finished the year 13-1 with a division title, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship, and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

The Crimson Hawks won the Lambert Trophy after their PSAC championship 2012 season, also earning recognition in 1987, 1989-91, 1993-94, 1999, and 2001-03. The 12 trophies is the most all-time.

Other 2017 Lambert Trophies include Penn State in Division I FBS, James Madison in Division I FCS and the College at Brockport in Division III.

The ECAC also gives out team of the year awards based on membership in the conference. Those were Army West Point (Division I), Stony Brook (FCS), LIU Post (Division II) and Washington & Jefferson (Division III).
