PSAC Athletes of the Week - 12/10 Monday, December 10, 2018 2:30 PM MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Dontay Jacobs Seton Hill (Sr. / Sprints) Uniontown, Pa. / Laurel Highlands Jacobs set a new SHU and PSAC record in the 400 meter dash at the YSU Icebreaker. His time of 47.29 was good for second place in the event. It was also an NCAA Automatic qualifying mark. His time is the second best in Division II so far this season. MEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Christian Jones IUP (Jr. / Jumps) Uniontown, Pa. / Laurel Highlands Jones opened the year with an NCAA provisional mark in the high jump at the YSU Icebreaker Friday night. Jones cleared the bar at 2.08 meters (6-09.75) to finish third overall at the meet. It's the best mark in the PSAC and Atlantic Region this year and seventh best in Division II. WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Caroline Lewis West Chester (So. / Multis) West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East Lewis started off her 2018 season with a stellar performance at Fast Times Before Finals hosted by Lehigh University where she won the Pentathlon with a score of 3,631 points. Her total smashed the previous school record while also serving as an NCAA provisional mark in her first competition of the season. Lewis won the long jump in the pentathlon with a leap of 18-9, which is also an NCAA provisional mark in that event. Lewis bested eight Division I athletes in this competition while also defeating a number of strong Division II competitors to earn the season-opening victory. WOMEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sunflower Greene MIllersville (Sr. / Throws) Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley Greene impressed at the F&M Diplomat Invitational. She heaved the shot put 15.98 meters to win the event while achieving an automatic mark in NCAA DII. She leads the division. She hit a provisional mark in the weight throw with a toss of 19.38 meters. The senior sits atop the leaderboard in the DII in the event. MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Kyle Dix Bloomsburg (Jr. / Freestyle/Butterfly/Breaststroke) Schwenksville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley Dix led the Bloomsburg men's swimming team to a second-place finish at the Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron, against primarily Division I competition during the weekend of November 30 to December 2. Dix swam in eight events and finished no lower than third in all eight swims. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 48.23 which was also an NCAA "B" mark. He finished second in six different events over the weekend and also had one third-place finish. He had one other NCAA "B" time as he posted a mark of 20.54 in the 50-yard freestyle to finish second in that event. He also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.33), the 400-yard medley relay (3:21.55), the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.10), the 100-yard breaststroke (56.26), and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.64). His third-place finish came in the 100-yard butterfly (45.37). He posted PSAC marks in all four of his individual events. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Anthony Lee Kutztown (Sr. / G) Willow Grove, Pa. / Abington Lee broke the school-record for points in a game with 50 in 39 minutes of action against Pitt-Johnstown. The senior was the first player in Division II to score 50 points this season, 16th player in PSAC history to score 50 and 1st in the PSAC since 2004 and only the second since 1994. He connected on five 3-pointers and hit 15-of-16 at the free-throw line. Added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jakwan Jones East Stroudsburg (Sr. / G) Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep Charter Jones averaged 14.0 points, 8.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game while helping ESU post a pair of PSAC victories last week. The senior registered 15 points (9-10 FT) and seven assists in an 82-66 home win over Slippery Rock last Monday, and recorded his third career double-double with 13 points and 10 assists in an 86-76 victory at Edinboro on Saturday. Jones also added a season-high six steals on Saturday, helping ESU score 30 points off of 30 Edinboro turnovers in the win. He leads the PSAC in steals per game (3.6) and is ranked second in the league in assists per game (5.9). MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Justin Nwosu Millersville (Fr. / F) Bowie, Md. / St. Andrew's Episcopal Nwosu helped Millersville to a 90-59 road win over Seton Hill by scoring 11 points, and adding six rebounds, one block and one steal. He made 4-of-7 shots from the field, 2-of-2 from three and his lone foul shot attempt. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jonathan Williams Clarion (Jr. / F) Scranton, Pa. / Dunmore Williams powered Clarion to its first PSAC win of the season on Saturday, scoring a game-high 27 points and pulling down nine rebounds in a win over Mansfield. His 27 points dwarfed his previous season-high of 11 points as Williams went 13-of-15 from the field, doing all of his damage in just 28 minutes of action. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Joe Batt Pitt-Johnstown (Fr. / F) Greenville, Pa. / Greenville Batt scored a career-high 28 points (6-10 FGs, 4-6 3 FGs, 12-12 FTs) off the bench in an 109-97 home PSAC win over Kutztown on Saturday. He turned in five rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal. He scored 11 points, including three straight 3-pointers, in Pitt-Johnstown's 22-5 run that erased a 13-point first half deficit. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Brianna Tarabocchia Kutztown (Jr. / F) Woodcliff Lake, N.J. / Northern Valley Regional Tarabocchia tallied her second double-double this season, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The 13 points is the second-most she has scored this season. The junior went 5-of-6 from the floor overall, 1-for-2 from three and 2-of-2 at the free-throw line. She added one assist, one block and one steal in leading KU to a win over Pitt-Johnstown, its second straight PSAC win. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Taylor Leidy Lock Haven (Fr. / G) Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley Leidy was a key factor in the Bald Eagles first road win at Gannon since 1992. She dropped 13 points, which included a 7-for-9 effort from the free throw line. Leidy gathered five boards and one assist. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Michaela Barnes Edinboro (Jr. / G) Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston Barnes set Edinboro single-game records for points (42), free throws made (19), and free throws attempted (24) to lead Edinboro to a 93-89 overtime win over East Stroudsburg. With Ciara Rosten sidelined with an injury, Barnes led Edinboro back from a nine-point deficit (60-51) in the fourth quarter. She scored Edinboro's final 11 points of regulation, including a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime tied at 75. After totaling seven points in the half and 16 after three quarters, she scored 19 of Edinboro's 26 points in the fourth quarter, then added seven more points in overtime. Barnes made 11-of-23 field goals, including 1-of-2 three's, and was 19-of-24 at the line. She added a career-high nine rebounds and had five assists with a steal. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Brooke Hinderliter Slippery Rock (Jr. / G) Seminole, Pa. / Redbank Valley Hinderliter led Slippery Rock to a perfect 2-0 record with crossover wins last week against East Stroudsburg and West Chester. In what was the best two-game stretch of her collegiate career, Hinderliter averaged 26.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game all while shooting a stellar 58.8 percent (20-34) from the field and a near perfect 85.7 percent (12-14) at the foul line. She scored a career-high 33 points to go with three assists against ESU before ending the week with a near double-double of 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals against West Chester. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Ivana Twumasi Gannon (Fr. / G) Jane and Finch, Ontario / Central Tech Twumasi scored a career-high seven points off the bench in just 13 minutes for Gannon against Lock Haven (12/8/18). She added two rebounds and one assist against the Bald Eagles. The freshman has played at least 10 minutes in three straight games for the Lady Knights.
