PSAC Athletes of the Week - 12/3 Monday, December 3, 2018 2:30 PM WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Becca Cubbler Bloomsburg (Jr. / Freestyle/Butterfly) Royersford, Pa. / Spring-Ford Cubbler helped the women's swimming team to a seventh-place finish at the Zippy Invitational against primarily Division I competition. Cubbler finished the weekend by swimming in seven events and posting PSAC marks in all four of her individual events including two NCAA "B" times. She had five top ten finishes at the meet and scored points in all seven races. She had an NCAA "B" mark in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.46) with her other NCAA "B" time coming in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.94) where she broke her own school record. Following the weekend, Cubbler now has the fastest times in the PSAC in the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle, the 800-yard freestyle relay, and the 400-yard freestyle relay while holding the second-fastest mark in the conference in the 1650-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. She is third in the PSAC in the 400-yard medley relay. Cubbler is now fourth in Division II in the 500 free, ninth in Division II in the 800 free relay (7:38.95), and 10th in Division II in the 1650 free (17:08.71). She is also 11th in the country in both the 400 medley relay (3:51.04) and the 400 free relay (3:28.47) while ranking 14th in the country in the 200 free. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Ariel Jones Shippensburg (So. / G) Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest Jones averaged 26.3 PPG with nine steals, seven rebounds, six assists while shooting 49 percent in a 2-1 week for the Raiders, who won both of their conference games this weekend. Jones was also 20-of-23 at the FT line...she all but single-handedly helped SU rally to beat UPJ. Jones scored 14 of her game-high 34 points in the final 4:12, including three three-pointers and the go-ahead "and-one" with 5 seconds left...Jones also scored 16 of SU's 22 total points in the third quarter. Against Seton Hill, Jones led the Raiders overall with 22 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field. She did this in just 23 minutes, as she played just three minutes in the first half due to a pair of early fouls. Jones also scored eight of SU's nine points in a 9-0 run to close against the Griffins, flipping a 1-point game to a 10-point game. Against #12 USciences, Jones led the Raiders with 23 points, including a 9-of-10 rate at the free-throw line, to complement three assists, two steals and two rebounds. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Taylor Montana Bloomsburg (Jr. / F) Berwick, Pa. / Berwick Montana averaged a double-double in helping the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a perfect 3-0 week. The junior forward averaged 13.7 points and 12.0 rebounds as the Huskies rattled off a non-conference win over Chestnut Hill and a pair of conference wins against Gannon and Edinboro to open PSAC play. Montana scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the 77-62 victory over Chestnut Hill on Tuesday. After scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds in a 56-41 win over Gannon on Saturday, Montana had 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Huskies upset #19 Edinboro, 70-62, on Sunday. Montana added five assists and a pair of blocks during the three-game week. For the year, Montana is averaging 12.4 points and 8.8 rebounds (fifth in the PSAC). WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Aunbrielle Green Shippensburg (Fr. / F) Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East Green had a pair of double-doubles while posting 11+ rebounds in all three games. Green had 21 points and 13 rebounds against nationally-ranked No. 12 USciences, shooting 10-of-14 from the field. In a win over Seton Hill, Green had 21 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 47 percent. She was held to two points against UPJ but had 11 rebounds. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Carolyn Appleby IUP (Sr. / G) Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic Appleby averaged a team-best 18.3 points, dished out 19 assists and had 12 steals to lead the third-ranked Crimson Hawks to three straight victories. She contributed differently in each win, scoring 20 points on 7-14 shooting in the 56-point win over Cheyney Wednesday. Appleby then scored 17 points but had a career-high eight steals in the PSAC opening 72-41 win at Kutztown Saturday. The eight steals are tied for the seventh most in single game program history. When the shots didn't fall early in Sunday's 87-52 win, she became IUP's top distributor with a season-high eight assists at Millersville. Appleby did end up with a game-high 18 points Sunday, scoring 13 points in the second half on 6-11 shooting. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Tori Obenrader Gannon (Fr. / G/F) Fryburg, Pa. / North Clarion Obenrader opened the week with a double-double performance (11 pts, 10 reb) against Daemen. She combined for 19 points in three games along with 22 rebounds in three games. The freshman capped the week with seven points and eight rebounds in a win against Mansfield (12/2/18). She has logged 20 or more minutes off the bench in five games this season. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Anthony Lee Kutztown (Sr. / G) Willow Grove, Pa. / Abington Lee averaged 27 points, 3 rebounds and 2.3 assists, leading Kutztown in scoring twice in a 2-1 week, the lone loss, an OT defeat to No. 3 IUP. Shot 10-of-16 (62.5%) from three over the three games. Had a game-high 28 points in 38 minutes, including the final five points that sealed a 76-75 win over Jefferson. Tallied 15 points (3-of-6 from 3-pt), three rebounds and three assists vs. IUP. Recorded 37 points, including 12-of-16 overall and 5-of-7 from three in just 28 minutes in a win over Clarion. Leads the PSAC at 26.0 ppg and has scored in double-digits all eight games this season. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Travis Elmore Bloomsburg (Fr. / F) Tobyhanna, Pa. / Pocono Mountain West Elmore helped lead Bloomsburg to a 2-2 record during the week by averaging 16.0 points and 8.8 rebounds, including the first two double-doubles of his collegiate career. Elmore also added six assists, eight blocks, and five steals in the four games. and 2.0 blocks in four games. Elmore has started his collegiate by reaching double figures in scoring in all six games thus far for the Huskies. He scored 11 points at Division I Saint Francis on Tuesday and then earned his first career on Wednesday against Felician and scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in a 77-72 win over the Golden Falcons. On Saturday in the PSAC opener, Elmore scored 16 points to go along with eight rebounds, three steals (career-high), and four blocks (career-high) in 66-62 win over Gannon. His free throw with 45 seconds left tied the game and then his layup with 9.4 seconds left in regulation snapped the 62-62 tie. On Sunday, despite playing through foul trouble, Elmore posted a career-high 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks in the Huskies' overtime loss to Edinboro. All told, Elmore shot 25-of-44 (56.9%) from the field and 5-of-9 (55.6%) from three-point range. In his first collegiate season, Elmore is averaging 14.5 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds. He ranks in the top 20 in the PSAC in both points and rebounds and in fourth in the league by averaging 1.5 blocks per game. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Josh Wise Pitt-Johnstown (Jr. / G) Washington, Pa. / Washington Wise averaged 20.7 ppg in three games. The junior scored 17 points (8-10 FGs), five rebounds, five assists, two steals in 129-69 win over Carlow on Wednesday. He followed with 23 points (9-14 FGs, 4-4 fts), six rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in 85-70 PSAC Win at Mansfield on Saturday. Wise dropped 22 points, four rebounds and an assist 76-71 PSAC loss at #20 Shippensburg on Sunday. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK John Paul Kromka Pitt-Johnstown (Fr. / F) Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway Kromka averaged 14.0 points, nine rebounds, 2.7 assists., two blocks and 1.7 steals in three games. The freshman score 15 points (7-9 FGs), six rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal in 129-69 win over Carlow on Wednesday. Kromka tallied seven points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals in 85-70 PSAC win at Mansfield on Saturday. Kromka produced career highs of 20 points (10-15 FGs) and 12 rebounds along with an assist, block and steal in 76-71 PSAC loss at #20 Shippensburg on Sunday. WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Logan Grass Mercyhurst (Jr.) Culloden, W. Va. / Huntington Grass won both matches in PSAC dual wins for Mercyhurst. He is ranked #12 at 165. The junior won a 10-3 decision over #4 Shane Ruhnke of Millersville on Friday. He took a 9-0 decision over Shippensburg’s Adam Martz on Saturday.
