CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
FINAL BRACKETS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- Millersville redshirt senior Shane Ruhnke was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler while Lock Haven claimed four weight classes at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday at Keystone Arena in Kutztown, Pa.
For the first time in league history no team champion was determined from the tournament. At the end of the season, a Division I PSAC and Division II PSAC champion will be crowned based on dual results within the conference vs. respective NCAA level opponents.
Ruhnke is the first Marauder since the 1995-96 season to win an individual title at the championship. At 165 pounds, Ruhnke opened the event with a 9-0 major decision against Pitt-Johnstown’s Devin Austin before pinning Mercyhurst’s Logan Grass in 4:55. Ruhnke notched the title with a pin of Clarion’s Evan Delong in the first period with five seconds remaining.
At the 285-pound weight class, LHU’s Thomas Haines won his third consecutive title after not allowing a point to two of his opponents. Haines blanked CU’s Toby Cahill, 10-0, in the first round before defeating Edinboro’s Jon Spaulding, 10-5. Haines remained strong with a 6-0 decision against Kutztown’s Andrew Dunn.
LHU’s Dalton Rohrbaugh became the first Bald Eagle to win the weight class since 2015-16 (Bob Rehm). Rohrbaugh used a major decision against UPJ’s Matthew Sizka, 12-4, to claim the title.
The Bald Eagles continued their dominance after DJ Fehlman won the 141-pound weight class. He fended off EU’s Carmine Ciotti, 6-5, in the championship bout.
Bloomsburg’s Grant Bond need only 1:10 to pin LHU’s Jon Ross in the title bout to win the 149-pound weight class.
BU’s Nate Newberry followed suit with a title of his own after defeating Mercyhurst’s Kevin Kinyua, 4-2, in the finals.
At 174 pounds, EU’s Jacob Oliver thrwarted LHU’s Jared Siegrist, 7-4, before teammate Zach Ancewicz won the 184-pound weight class with a 6-2 decision against Seton Hill’s Nathan Bowlen.
LHU swiped a title at the 197-pound class after Luke McGonigal defeated Millersville’s Colton Dull, 7-3.
