Millersville's Sunflower Greene Wins National Title at NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships

DAY TWO RECAP
FINAL RESULTS
PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Millersville junior Sunflower Greene became the second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference female to win an NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championship when she accomplished the feat in the shot put Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
Greene produced her historic mark on her second throw of the event with a heave of 16.26 meters. She topped her own mark by .41 meters that she used to win a PSAC title two weeks ago. The Marauders finished tied for 17th with 10 points.
 
California senior Julie Friend ran her way to first-team All-American recognition after a fifth-place finish in the 3000-meter run. She used a time of 9:31.13.
 
East Stroudsburg junior Aspen Gaita claimed sixth in the pentathlon after scoring 3687 points. She earned first-team All-American accolades with her performance.
 
Bloomsburg junior Kirsten O’Malley jumped her way onto an All-American Second Team with a 10th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.12 meters.
 
Shippensburg senior Danielle Sciremammano finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.55 seconds. The finish was good enough to earn first-team All-American merits.
 
Kutztown senior Brandon Raguz claimed 13th in the men’s pole vault when he cleared 4.80 meters.
 
Edinboro junior Gabby Schultz finished 14th in the shot put with a distance of 14.22 meters.
 
Slippery Rock senior Anderson Novalin claimed 16th in the men’s shot put with a heave of 16.85 meters.
 
A trio of PSAC schools already opened their outdoor seasons. The rest of the league will get into their seasons March 24. 

DAY ONE RECAP
Results
PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Slippery Rock senior Courtney McQuaide garnered first-team All-American stats in the women’s pole vault after placing fifth on day one of the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
McQuaide cleared 3.82 meters on her first attempt. Shippensburg senior Kali Hepner earned second-team All-American recognition when she tied for 12th in the event at 3.72 meters.
 
SRU’s Maddie Marshall tied for 16th with a height of 3.57 meters.
 
Seton Hill junior Kaitlyn Germanoski claimed second-team honors in the women’s high jump when she finished ninth and cleared 1.71 meters.
 
SU senior Danielle Sciremammano qualified for the finals in the women’s 60-meter hurdles when she turned in the eighth best time in the prelims with a time of 8.535 seconds.
 
Sciremammano just missed All-American honors in the long jump when she finished 13th with a distance of 5.75 meters.
 
Millersville junior Sunflower Greene finished 15th in the women’s weight throw with a heave of 17.70 meters.
 
West Chester senior Justus Norman finished 16th in the men’s long jump with a leap of 6.76 meters.
 
Action begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the women’s pentathlon 60-meter hurdles. East Stroudsburg’s Aspen Gaita is a participant in the event.

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- 
16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference athletes have been selected to compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Of the 16 athletes, 11 are women and 5 are men. Shippensburg and Slippery Rock will send three athletes apiece. Edinboro will send a pair while IUP, California, Kutztown, West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Seton Hill, Millersville and Bloomsburg have one representative each.

A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

The championships will be held March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Pittsburg State and the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships
