West Chester Claims 2018 PSAC Women's Lacrosse Title

WEST CHESTER, Pa. --- West Chester won the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship, 17-12, against Mercyhurst at Vonnie Gros Field Sunday afternoon in West Chester, Pa.
The Golden Rams improved to 19-0 on the season while the Lakers fell to 13-6.
WCU claimed its 22nd title and its first since 2013.
WCU exacted revenge with the win after falling to MU in the 2016 title game, 17-14.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring twice within 30 seconds by sophomore Tatum Altman and junior Emily Schulze. The lead grew to 6-1 behind two more Schultze goals while juniors Maggie Stella and Sami Barnett chipped in with a goal apiece.
WCU led 8-3 at halftime and both teams battled evenly in the second half with both scoring nine goals in the second half.
The game was in reach for the Lakers when they narrowed the score to 11-10 with 13:05 remaining behind junior midfielder Angelina Simon’s goal. WCU scored four consecutive goals in the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Barnett and MU’s senior Grace Lawson led all scorers with four goals. WCU had a trio of scorers record three goals; Altman, Schulze and Stella.
WCU’s freshman goalkeeper Julianne Clemmens had seven saves earning the win while her freshman counterpart Raelyn Tiberio saved 12 shots in the loss.
The NCAA DII Women’s Lacrosse Championship field will be announced at 8:30 PM on NCAA.com. The No. 1 seeds will be announced 15 minutes before the selection show on Twitter at @NCAADII.
