9546 WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Ann Carozza

Carozza had another strong weekend competing for the first time in over a month in the Golden Rams Classic. The layoff seemed to have no impact on Carozza as she picked up right where she left off winning three individual events while also swimming on three winning relay teams. The freshman captured the 100 and 200 butterfly while also winning the 100 free with a new pool record time of 50.61 seconds. Carozza also swam on three winning relay teams as she was a part of the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, and 200 medley relay. Carozza’s efforts played a major role in helping West Chester to capture a pair of victories over Ursinus and Albright as WCU ended the meet with 1162 points while Ursinus had 620 and Albright had 102 points at the conclusion of the meet.
 
9810 MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

John Castello

Castello averaged a double-double of 20.0 PPG and 10.0 RPG in a 2-0 week for the Raiders, as Shippensburg won on the road at Millersville for the first time in three seasons and then defeated Kutztown by 15. Castello shot 55% from the field, including 50% from three-point range, and was perfect (14-of-14) at the free-throw line. At Millersville, Castello scored a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. He also added a game-high nine rebounds. It was his third game this season and the seventh time in his career that Castello exceeded the 20-point mark. Against Kutztown, Castello notched his seventh double-double of the season and the 24th of his career with 19 points and 11 rebounds while equaling a career high with three steals. Castello went 12-of-12 at the free-throw line, tying the second-best rate at the free-throw line in a single game by an SU player. Prior to Saturday, Castello's most free throws made in a game was five, achieved on four occasions.
   
9742 MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Elmore continued the torrid start to his rookie season by averaging 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Huskies went 1-1 last week. The freshman scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and posted a career-high four assists in a 109-87 win over Wilmington on Wednesday night. Then, on Saturday, Elmore scored 17 points and added eight rebounds in a loss at West Chester. He was 15-of-27 (55.6%) from the field and hit 6-of-8 (75.0%) from the line in the two games. Elmore has reached double figures in all 13 games to start his collegiate career and is posting 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game on the year.
 
8416 MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Micah Till
Slippery Rock (Jr. / F)

Till recorded a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds in Slippery Rock's 74-69 win over No. 3 IUP Saturday, marking the eighth straight win for SRU and snapping previously undefeated IUP's 14-game winning streak. Till also blocked two shots and handed out two steals in the win over IUP. The effort came after he scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out five assists and had three steals in limited minutes earlier in the week in a road win at Cal. Till was nursing a slight injury in that game and actually took his free throws with his opposite hand, knocking down 3-of-4. For the week, he averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in a pair of wins that sent SRU into first place in the PSAC West. Till has now scored in double figures in all eight games of the current winning streak and has five double-doubles in that stretch.
 
9809 MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Fred Mulbah

Mulbah scored a team-high 16 points (6-11 FGs, 1-3 3FG, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, four assists and four steals in 64-61 loss at Gannon on Wednesday. He dropped a career-high 21 points (8-11 FGs, 3-4 3 FG, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, seven assists and a steal in an 100-88 home win over Edinboro on Saturday.
 
9811 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Madison Torresin

Torresin had a huge week this week as she led West Chester to a pair of crucial PSAC East victories including an upset win over PSAC East leader Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 73-57. On Wednesday evening at Mansfield, Torresin scored a game-high 18 points while also coming away with five steals in the Golden Rams 62-43 victory over Mansfield. On Saturday afternoon, Torresin found her way into double-figures for the third game in a row as she poured in a season-high 21 points while also coming down with 10 rebounds to lead the Golden Rams to the upset victory over Bloomsburg. Torresin also registered four assists and three steals in the victory over Bloomsburg, which gives her eight steals and six helpers on the week.
 
9709 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Zhane Snow

Snow continued her blazing start to the New Year this week as she found her way into double-figures in a pair of Golden Ram victories once again. Against Mansfield on Wednesday evening, Snow shot 7-for-9 from the field on her way to a 16-point performance (just two points shy of her career-high) to help West Chester roll to the road victory over Mansfield. Returning home on Saturday afternoon to take on PSAC East-leading Bloomsburg, Snow shot the ball well once again this time going 5-of-7 from the field for a total of 12 points in the Golden Rams upset victory over the Huskies.
   
9737 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Carolyn Appleby

Appleby led the No. 1-ranked Crimson Hawks to a pair of big road wins over Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock last week averaging 20.5 points and 5.0 assists per game. The senior moved up to four spots to seventh in IUP history with 1,344 career points. Appleby led IUP in scoring in both games, scoring 17 at Mercyhurst and a season-high 24 points in the win at Slippery Rock. She keyed an offensive output at The Rock with three 3-pointers in the first quarter alone as IUP jumped out to a 27-14 lead after 10 minutes. Appleby played a big distributor role at Mercyhurst with seven assists. The win at Erie was IUP's first ever playing as a No. 1 ranked team and came at a gym where they were just 2-3 in the previous five seasons.
 
9705 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Obenrader notched the fourth double-digit game of her career, tying a career-high 15 points against Pitt-Johnstown (1/9/19). The freshman went 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc against the Mountain Cats. She chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds against Seton Hill (1/12/19). She combined to go 9-for-13 (69.2%) from the field this week while averaging 19 minutes/game.
 
9725 WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Shane Ruhnke
Millersville (Sr.)
Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley


Ruhnke scored a pin in the finals at the "Shorty" Hitchcock Memorial Classic to become Millersville's first winner at the event since 2008. Ruhnke pinned Neil Antrassian of University of Pennsylvania at the 2:30 mark in the championship match to secure the title. Ruhnke did the same in the semifinals bout where he scored a pin at 4:04 against Brad Luaghlin of Army. Ruhnke scored a 13-8 decision win in the quarterfinals against Mitch Hartman of Bucknell. Ruhnke began his day with his fastest pin of the season (2:05) against Kellen Ekern of Old Dominion. Ruhnke was the latest Marauder to win both a 165-pound title at the PSAC Tournament and the "Shorty" since 1988-89 season when Doug Harkins won. Three of Ruhnke's four bouts resulted in pins at the "Shorty" which resulted in him earning the team's pin leader with five. Ruhnke's last 10 matches have all come against Division I opponents, and he is 9-1 in that stretch.
