PSAC Athletes of the Week - 10/28 Monday, October 28, 2019 10:30 AM FIELD HOCKEY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kat Roncoroni West Chester (Sr. / F) Lebanon Twp., N.J. / Voorhees Roncoroni scored the game winning goal with three minutes left against No. 2 East Stroudsburg on the road. Roncoroni scored two goals and assisted another in a win over No. 6 Adelphi Monday afternoon. She is second on the team with the most amount of goals, currently having 11. FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hannah Barnard Bloomsburg (Jr. / GK) Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal Barnard led the Huskies to a pair of shutout victories during the week which has brought Bloomsburg in a three-way tie for the final postseason spot in the PSAC standings. Barnard turned aside all 20 shots she faced in wins at #3 Millersville on Wednesday night and against Slippery Rock at home on Saturday. On Wednesday night, Barnard and the Huskies stunned #3 Millersville on the road by a 1-0 final in double overtime. The junior turned aside 15 shots to preserve the victory - 12 of which came after the opening half. The 15 saves tied for the third-highest single-game save total in the conference this season but marked the most saves in a game in a shutout performance in the league this year. Then, on Saturday, Barnard played the first three periods in the Huskies' 3-0 home win over Slippery Rock and stopped another five shots in the victory. Barnard has not allowed a goal in her last 187:54 of action and leads the PSAC in save percentage (.892). Her 0.94 goals against average is fourth while her 5.80 saves per game is also fourth. VOLLEYBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sam Dunphy East Stroudsburg (Sr. / RS) Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff Dunphy paced the Warriors with 25 kills on the week, including 11 in a 3-1 win against Lock Haven on Saturday. Dunphy averaged 3.12 kills per set along with a 2.62 hitting percentage. Dunphy hit .409 against Lock Haven on Saturday and helped the Warriors to clinch their second-straight PSAC Tournament bid. She also averaged 3.69 points per set for East Stroudsburg. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHEAST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Emily Hangen Shippensburg (Jr. / S) Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township Hangen directed a Raider offense that hit a combined .220 in victories over Millersville and West Chester. She averaged 12.7 assists per set -- 89 overall -- while also recording 23 digs, two blocks, and sneaking in four kills without an error (.500). Against Millersville, Hangen had 42 assists, 8 digs and 2 aces. Her passing resulted in three Raiders with double-digit kills and the team hit .243 overall. Against West Chester, Hangen directed the offense with 47 assists, 15 digs and a pair of kills, moving into fourth on Shippensburg's career assists list (3,271), moving past Amber Schmerfeld (3,229 from 2002-04). VOLLEYBALL NORTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Cierah Jackson Edinboro (Jr. / OH) Berea, Ohio / Padua Franciscan Jackson led Edinboro to a pair of 3-0 victories over Clarion and Slippery Rock. In the process, she became the 14th Edinboro player with 1,000 career kills. The junio led the Scots in kills in both matches, with 13 vs. Clarion on Friday night and 9 vs. Slippery Rock on Saturday. She got her 1,000th career kill vs. Clarion after entering with 997 kills. Jackson now has 1,019 kills. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Viktoria Farian Seton Hill (Jr. / OH) Richfield, Ohio / Revere Farian led the Griffins to a 3-0 week with two PSAC Southwest Division wins. She finished the week with 48 kills, 45 digs, 9 aces and 8 blocks. Farian opened the week nearly hitting a career high with 27 kills in the five set win over Fairmont State. She added 16 digs, 4 blocks and 3 aces in that win. She posted double figure digs in each of her three matches. VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jensen Silbaugh Cal U (Jr. / L) Warren, Ohio / Lakeview Silbaugh averaged 4.40 digs per set over the weekend, as the Vulcans posted a 2-0 mark in divisional play on the road. On Friday, she tied for the team lead with 18 digs and tallied three aces to complete a 3-2 comeback victory at Pitt-Johnstown. The Ohio native then matched a season high with 26 digs and added five assists and two aces in a 3-2 win at IUP on Saturday. WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Courtney Hubric Bloomsburg (Fr. / Free/Fly) Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin Hubric won the first four events of her collegiate career on Saturday - three individual and one relay - as the Huskies knocked off visiting Susquehanna on Saturday. Hubric picked up her victories in the 50-yard butterfly (26.82), the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.27), and the 100-yard freestyle (54.49). She then was the freestyle leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that touched first (1:49.93) to close out the meet. Hubric qualified for the PSAC Championships in two events on Saturday - the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle. WOMEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Lauren Hoelke Bloomsburg (Jr. / MF) Blackwood, N.J. / Highland Regional Hoelke continued her sensational season for the seventh-ranked Huskies as she posted three goals and an assist in a pair of Bloomsburg victories last week. Hoelke scored once - while playing only 29 minutes - in the 5-0 win at Shepherd on Wednesday and then had a hand in all three Bloomsburg goals (two goals, one assist) in the Huskies' 3-0 victory at Lock Haven on Saturday. Hoelke's first goal of the game proved to be the game-winner - her third of the season. With her ten goals on the season, Hoelke has become the first player at Bloomsburg to reach double figures in goals since Tara Huber scored 12 for the Huskies in 2013. She has ten goals and eight assists for 28 points this season - she had 27 points in her first two seasons combined. WOMEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jenna Hawkins Bloomsburg (Jr. / GK) Fleetwood, Pa. / Fleetwood Hawkins recorded a pair of shutouts this past week to give her a share of the school record for most career shutouts with 27. With the victories, the Huskies have now won 12 straight games - also tying a school record. Hawkins needed to make only three saves in the two games (one at Shepherd on Wednesday and two at Lock Haven on Saturday). Hawkins now leads the PSAC in goals against average (0.35) and shutouts (8) while ranking second in save percentage (.881). She has allowed only five goals in nearly 1300 minuets of action this season. WOMEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Mahogany Willis IUP (So. / F) Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts Willis scored both goals in a 2-1 upset victory over division-leading Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon. Both goals came on breakaways as she picked up loose balls in her defensive end and went the length of the field. Those were her only two shots on the net as the SRU defense tried limiting the PSACs leading scorer. WOMEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Madeline Smakulski IUP (Jr. / GK) Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area Smakulski gave up just one goal in two games as she helped the Crimson Hawks go 2-0 on the week and move up to the third spot in the PSAC West standings with wins at Gannon and over division-leading Slippery Rock. Smakulski earned her third shutout of the year in a 2-0 win at Gannon Wednesday night, stopping nine shots on net *She backed that up with just one goal allowed and another nine saves in a 2-1 win over a Slippery Rock team that averages nearly three goals per game. Six of her saves against the Rock came in the second half, including three in the final 11 minutes, as she protected IUP's one-goal lead. MEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jake Gosselin Millersville (Sr. / F) Westminster, Md. / Francis Scott Key Gosselin had another great week leading the forward line for the Marauders. He scored his 10th goal of the season in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Shippensburg. He is second in the PSAC in goals scored and tied for second in total points (25). MEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Ethan Woods Millersville (Sr. / D) Highland Village, Texas / Marcus Woods has filled in wherever necessary in both the midfield and central defense. He played all 90 minutes in Wednesday's 2-1 victory vs. Shippensburg and every minute in Saturday's double-overtime win vs. West Chester. Woods scored his first goal of the season against the Golden Rams in a clutch spot, with his team down 2-0. MEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Mo Kanani Slippery Rock (So. / D) Nazareth, Israel / St. Joseph Almotran Kanani helped Slippery Rock to a 2-0-0 record last week with a pair of 1-0 victories over Mercyhurst University and Seton Hill University. Kanani, who scored the game-winning goal in both contests, finished the week with four points on two goals while adding a season-high two shots on goal in both games. A sophomore, Kanani fourth for Slippery Rock with two goals along with ranking fifth in points with five. With the victories, Slippery Rock moved into third-place in the PSAC Western Division standings with nine points. MEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Matt Hunsberger Slippery Rock (Sr. / GK) Moon Township, Pa. / Moon Hunsberger led Slippery Rock to a 2-0-0 record last week with a pair of shutout victories over Mercyhurst University and Seton Hill University. Hunsberger finished with a career-high 14 saves against Mercyhurst followed by a five save performance against Seton Hill. On the season, Hunsberger has an .816 save percentage along with a 1.08 goals against average and 62 saves. Among PSAC goalkeepers, the senior is second in save percentage and total saves with 76 while being tied for third in shutouts (5). FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Abdul-Hassan Neblett Kutztown (Sr. / RB) Newark, N.J. / Paramus Catholic Neblett became just the 10th running back in Kutztown program history to rush for 200+ yards in a game, Saturday, going for a career-high 203 and four touchdowns on just 10 carries in the 17th-ranked Golden Bears' 55-5 win over Shippensburg. Neblett scored on runs of 14, 59, 52 and 17 yards, carving up the Red Raiders' defense on a day when Kutzotwn ran for 335 yards as a team. The redshirt senior's first touchdown of the afternoon, late in the first quarter, put him over 1,000 career yards rushing. Neblett expanded Kutztown's 14-2 lead in the second with two touchdown runs of 50+ yards on back-to-back offensive plays. Neblett is the first Golden Bear to rush for 200 or more yards in a game since Craig Reynolds ran for a school record 261 against East Stroudsburg in 2016. Neblett's four TD runs are tied for the second most in a game in school history. Neblett currently leads the PSAC and ranks sixth in NCAA Division II with 7.65 yards per carry and is the PSAC's sixth leading rusher overall. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jarey Elder West Chester (Sr. / FS) Allentown, Pa. / Parkland Elder registered six tackles, five solo, and returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown to lead West Chester to a 28-21 win over East Stroudsburg Saturday. Elder finished with two passes defensed, including the pick-six. That interception came in the second quarter with the Golden Rams trailing 10-0 and looking extremely flat on offense. His defensive score was the wake-up call West Chester needed to get on the board and come from behind to take the lead before halftime. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jordan Walters East Stroudsburg (Sr. / K/P) Sciota, Pa. / Pleasant Valley Walters made both of his field goal attempts at No. 21 West Chester, including a 56-yarder right before the halftime break. The kick from Walters set a new record for longest field goal in East Stroudsburg program history, beating out Greg Knauss' 53-yarder in 2007. Walters also averaged 41.2 yards on eight punts in the game, pinning West Chester inside its own 20 on two occasions. Walters' longest punt of the afternoon was a 54-yarder FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nelson Brown Cal U (Sr. / RB) Salisbury, Md. / Wicomico Brown finished with nearly 200 all-purpose yards and scored a pair of touchdown in the second half, as the Vulcans posted a 27-15 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday. He posted a season-high 119 rushing yards and one touchdown on 24 carries, including 81 yards in the second half. With Cal U trailing late in the third quarter, Brown caught a screen pass on 2nd-and-16 and raced 74 yards for a touchdown – the longest reception of his career. The Maryland native then sealed the victory later in the fourth quarter by breaking off a 31-yard touchdown run after he carried the ball on each of the previous six plays. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Aaron Rogers Edinboro (Sr. / CB) Burlington, N.J. / Burlington Township Rogers paced a defense that limited Seton Hill to 279 total yards, while forcing five turnovers and coming up with four sacks. He returned his fourth career interception 55 yards for his first career touchdown. In addition, he recovered a fumble, broke up a pass, and had 5 tackles. The INT return broke the game open, giving Edinboro a 30-10 lead. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Vicente Arriagada Edinboro (Fr. / PK) Bliss, N.Y. / Letchworth Central Arrigada made three field goals for the third time in four weeks as Edinboro handed Seton Hill a 37-10 defeat. Prior to that, the last time a kicker made three field goals in a game was in 2013 when T.J. Hardy made three against Seton Hill. The redshirt freshman made good from 22, 21, and 23 yards, and has now made eight straight attempts. He is 11-of-14 on the season. The 11 field goals are tied for fourth in a season.
