PSAC Athletes of the Week - 11/18 Monday, November 18, 2019 10:30 AM MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Thomas Lang Shepherd (Sr. / G) New Market, Md. / Linganore Lang averaged 26.5 points to lead Shepherd to a 2-0 week. He had 31 points in a win over West Virginia Wesleyan and added 22 in Shepherd's win over Frostburg State. The senior snagged six rebounds with four assists and two steals against West Va. Wesleyan. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jaden Faulkner Millersville (So. / G) Landover, Md. / Eleanor Roosevelt Faulkner led the Marauders to a win over Wilmington with a near triple-double performance. Hitting 10-of-16 shots from the field and 9-of-11 from the line, Faulkner scored 30 points for the second consecutive game--the first Marauder to do so since 2006. He also added seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Carlos Pepin East Stroudsburg (So. / F/G) Lodi, N.J. / Lodi Pepin played a big role in East Stroudsburg's swarming defensive effort in the win over Cheyney on Saturday, which saw the Warriors force 34 turnovers and tally 26 steals. Pepin grabbed seven rebounds and registered a team-high five steals in the victory. The sophomore also was a force on the offensive end, going 6-of-8 from the field in his 15-point night. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK John Paul Kromka Pitt-Johnstown (So. / F) Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway Kromka averaged 21 pts and 10 rebs in a pair of Pitt-Johnstown wins. He scored 16 points while dishing out four assists and grabbing nine rebounds in a win against Carlow. He followed up with a 26-point, 11-rebound effort. He shot 81% from the floor in two contests. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK John Paul Kromka Pitt-Johnstown (So. / F) Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway Kromka grabbed seven rebounds on two occasions while Pitt-Johnstown collected two wins on the week. The sophomore swatted five shots in a win against Ohio Dominican. He accumulated four steals on the week. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Abby Beeman Shepherd (Fr. / G) Ridgely, W. Va. / Frankfort Beeman averaged 22.0 ppg in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She had 29 points in an overtime win over Lincoln and added 15 points and 11 assists in a win over Davis & Elkins. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sydney Clayton Shepherd (Jr. / F) Frederick, Md. / St. John's Clayton recorded seven blocked shots in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She had five blocked shots in a win over Lincoln. The junior corralled 13 defensive rebounds on the week. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Tori Obenrader Gannon (So. / F) Fryburg, Pa. / North Clarion Obenrader notched a career-high 36 points in Gannon's win over Fairmont State. She is only the third player in program history to score 36 points in a game and it was the first time since 2003 that a player scored over 35 points in a single-game. She set a new career-high making 14 field goals. Obenrader later recorded her fourth straight game this season scoring double-figures with 15 points at Lake Erie. She nearly finished the week averaging a double-double with 18 total rebounds. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Haley Tewes Gannon (Sr. / F) Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Kettering Tewes made a career-high six steals in Gannon's win over Fairmont State. This was the first time since the 2013-14 season that a Gannon player recorded five or more steals in a game. She notched 11 rebounds, nine steals, and four blocks for the Knights on the week. VOLLEYBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sam Dunphy East Stroudsburg (Sr. / RS) Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff Dunphy tallied 46 kills on the week as the Warriors went 3-0 to finish the regular season. Dunphy averaged 4.18 kills per set and hit .295 on the week. She also added 40 digs and notched 11 blocks. Dunphy joined the 250 kills, 250 digs, 100 blocks club over the weekend for the Warriors. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHEAST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Lindsey Blevins Millersville (Jr. / OH) Red Lion, Pa. / Red Lion Blevins played a key role in Millersville scoring a 3-2 win over Shippensburg and a sweep of Shepherd, securing the Marauders' first home playoff match in 20 years. Blevins recorded a double-double of 17 kills and 20 digs against Shippensburg. She was especially key late in the match, recording 13 of her 17 kills in the final two sets. She had five of the Marauders' nine kills in the fifth and did not commit an error. In the three-set sweep of Shepherd, she posted a match-high 17 kills and also added two service aces. VOLLEYBALL NORTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Ashley Beyers Gannon (Jr. / S) Lanark, Ill. / Eastland Beyers elped the Lady Knights (26-5, 17-1 PSAC) extend their win streak to 11 matches and reach the 25-win mark for the fourth straight season. Beyers handed out a team-high 81 assists (13.5/s) with 17 digs (2.83/s). She also tallied four kills and five blocks. She has recorded at least 40 assists in her last two matches, including a match-high 41 assist performance at Edinboro. Beyers has produced at least 40 assists in 13 matches this season and ranks second in the PSAC with 11.14 assists per set. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Taylor Sabol Seton Hill (Sr. / S) North Huntingdon, Pa. / Norwin Sabol helped the Griffins close out the regular season with a six game winning streak by winning three PSAC SW Division matches. Sabol ran the Griffin offense and had three great all around matches. She posted 128 assists, 37 digs, 10 kills, 6 aces and 6 blocks in the three matches. Taylor had 45 assists, 11 digs, six kills, four aces and 3 blocks in the win over Pitt-Johnstown. VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Erin Carmody Pitt-Johnstown (So. / DS) Sewickley, Pa. / North Allegheny Carmody broke Pitt-Johnstown's single-match dig record with 46 in four-set win at Cal U on Saturday. The sophomore turned in 37 digs, two aces, two assists in four-set home win over IUP on Tuesday. Carmody had 20 digs, three aces and an assist in four-set loss at Seton Hill on Friday. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Collin DiGalbo Kutztown (Sr. / QB) Secane, Pa. / Monsignor Bonner DiGalbo threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-32 passing, while gaining 92 yards on the ground and scoring once more in the Golden Bears' 37-35 loss to Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship game, Saturday. DiGalbo's 26 touchdown passes this season are a new career-high and seventh most in a season in program history. He's thrown for multiple touchdowns in nine of his 10 games, while also protecting the ball, with no interceptions in six of his last seven outings. The Secane, Pa., native is just five passing yards shy of setting a new career-high, now sitting with 2,465 for the season after Saturday's performance. DiGalbo ranks sixth in NCAA Division II in total points responsible for (218) and per game (21.8), seventh in completion percentage (66.8%) and eighth in passing efficiency (172.3). DiGalbo's rushing TD on Saturday was the 33rd of his career, two shy of tying Craig Reynolds' KU all-time record of 35. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Joel Ozoemena East Stroudsburg (Sr. / LB) Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg Ozoemena led the East Stroudsburg defense with seven total tackles, including six solo. The senior forced one fumble and posted an interception in the victory. Ozoemena finished tied for fourth in the PSAC with four interceptions. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Deonte Glover Shepherd (Gr. / RB) Inwood, W. Va. / Musselman Glover had a 98-yard kickoff return for a score in Shepherd's win over Seton Hill. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Roland Rivers III Slippery Rock (Sr. / QB) Ellenwood, Ga. / Martin Luther King Rivers III was named the MVP of the PSAC Championship game after leading No. 8 Slippery Rock to a 37-35 win over No. 13 Kutztown on the road. Rivers completed 28-of-41 passes for 302 yards with four touchdowns and also rushed for 53 yards to account for 355 yards of total offense. Rivers led three scoring drives in the final 12 minutes as Slippery Rock reeled off 16 fourth quarter points to complete a comeback win. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Damon Lloyd IUP (Sr. / LB) Bel Air, Md. / John Carroll Lloyd finished with a game-high 13 tackles to go along with a pass breakup as the 18th-ranked Crimson Hawks wrapped up a playoff spot and a 10-win season with a 54-24 win at Shippensburg. It was Lloyd's seventh game of 10-plus tackles this season and tied for his second highest output this season. He leads the PSAC with 111 tackles this year, the third straight season he's gone over 100 tackles. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jake Chapla Slippery Rock (Sr. / PK) Pittsburgh, Pa. / Plum Chapla booted a 31-yard field goal with just under four minutes to play in the PSAC Championship game that cut Kutztown's lead to 35-31, setting The Rock up to take the lead with their final possession. Chapla tallied seven points in the PSAC title game and also punted three times for an average 39.3 yards with a long of 55 yards.
