PSAC Athletes of the Week - 11/25 Monday, November 25, 2019 2:30 PM MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Robbie Heath West Chester (Fr. / G) Whittlesea, Australia / Abington Heath averaged 21.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in four West Chester wins this week. Heath went 31-of-36 from the free throw line. He dropped an early career-high 31 points in West Chester's 82-74 victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Josh Samec West Chester (So. / F) Trecksow, Pa. / Hazleton Area Samec posted two double-doubles as the Golden Rams went 4-0 this week. He averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the four wins while recording four blocks and seven steals total. Samec played 27.3 minutes per game this week. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK John Paul Kromka Pitt-Johnstown (So. / F) Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway Kromka led Pitt-Johnstown to its 5th straight win and 2-0 in PSAC. He tied a career-high with 28 points (10-13 shooting, 8-9 FTs), game-high nine rebounds (five defensive), game-high five blocks, an assist and a steal in 79-62 win of PSAC East favorite East Stroudsburg Saturday. The sophomore scored 15 points (7-8 FTs), team-high seven rebounds (five defensive), game-highs of five blocks and three steals, and an assist in 84-77 win over Kutztown Sunday. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Luke House Cal U (Fr. / G/F) Norristown, Pa. / Archbishop John Carroll House averaged 8.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game, as the Vulcans recorded a 3-0 mark, including a pair of PSAC Crossover wins last week. He grabbed nine rebounds and collected a season-high four steals, while also leading the team in scoring with 21 points in an 86-63 victory at Davis & Elkins on Monday night. The Archbishop John Carroll product then totaled three rebounds, two steals and 13 points in 40 minutes on Saturday afternoon in a 73-70 win over Lock Haven. The following day, House posted his first career double-double with 14 points and a season-high 12 rebounds (11 defensive), plus two steals, in 33 minutes in an 89-69 victory versus Mansfield. WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Georgia Wright West Chester (Sr. / Distance) Doncaster, England 1650 free - 16:39.14 - NCAA B cut - 1st place - fastest time in D2 this winter. 500 free - 4:54.75 - NCAA B cut - 1st place - 2nd fastest time in D2 right now. 400 IM - 4:23.84 - lifetime best and 6th fastest time in D2 (first year she has swam the 400 IM). 200 Back - 2:01.00 - 1st place - broke the pool record (Tammy Leane, 2005). Wright’s 400 IM was a lifetime best swim and the 6th fastest in Division II to date. In the women’s mile, Wright had a NCAA B Cut time and fastest mile time in Division II. Wright broke a pool record in the 200 BA. MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Brent Benedict Gannon (Sr. / Backstroke/Middle Distance/Butterfly) Corry, Pa. / Corry Benedict was part of six new Gannon program records, six NCAA times and two meet records at the three-day Magnus Cup Invitational at Cleveland State over the weekend. The senior established both a Gannon program record and Magnus Cup meet record with his 19.86 in the 50 free. His impressive run continued with a school record in the 100 free (44.68) as the leadoff leg of the 400 relay and the 200 free (1:39.25) to start the 800 relay. He joined teammates to set a meet record and grab an NCAA provisional qualifying time with a 1:20.73 in the 200 free relay, which also smashed the previous Gannon record by more than 2.5 seconds. The 400 free relay (3:02.53) and 200 medley relay (1:31.87) also set new program standards. WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Logan Grass Mercyhurst (Sr.) Culloden, W. Va. / Huntington Grass earned a second place finish at the highly competitive Storm open. He opened with a tech fall over Michael Blakemore of Notre Dame College and them pinned Nico Marsico of Gannon in the quarters. Grass topped Cade Hepner wrestling unattached from Ohio State before falling in the finals to another Ohio State unattached wrestler and highly touted recruit Carson Kharchla. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Rylee Derr Kutztown (Jr. / G) Lititz, Pa. / Warwick Derr had a memorable week as Kutztown went 2-1. The junior eclipsed the 1,000 career point milestone, finishing with 22 points, including 5-of-8 from three, and adding six rebounds and five assists in a win at Jefferson last Tuesday. In a win over Clarion last Saturday, she recorded six points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Derr followed that up by netting a season-high 24 points, while contributing seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Casey Remolde Kutztown (Fr. / G) Philadelphia, Pa. / Saint Basil Academy Remolde was a terror to shooters last week. In three games she combined for 20 rebounds, 10 blocks and six steals, to go along with 30 points in a 2-1 week for Kutztown. In a win at Jefferson last Tuesday, Remolde finished with eight points, five rebounds and two steals. Over the weekend was her coming out party. Last Saturday in a win at Clarion, Remolde recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, but also had a career-high five blocks. The following day against Pitt-Johnstown she once again tallied a game-high five blocks, while adding three steals, three rebounds and 10 points. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Gabrielle Smith Pitt-Johnstown (Sr. / G/F) Darlington, Pa. / Quigley Catholic Smith led Pitt-Johnstown to 3-0 week and 2-0 start in PSAC. The senior averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds in three games. She was 21-23 from free-throw line. Smith scored 16 points (4-4 FTs), five rebounds, one assist and two steals in 87-42 non-conference win over W. Va. Wesleyan on Wednesday. She turned in a game-high 20 points (6-7 FTs), four rebounds and an assist in 59-53 win over East Stroudsburg Saturday. Smith had 21 points (11-12 FTs), six rebounds and an assist in 79-64 win over Kutztown Sunday. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Makalyn Clapper Pitt-Johnstown (Fr. / G) Gallitizin, Pa. / Penn Cambria Clapper used strong defensive play to help Pitt-Johnstown produce a 3-0 week. The freshman accumulated six defensive rebounds, 13 steals and three blocked shots. She amassed seven steals and three defensive boards in a win against Kutztown.
