DENVER, Colo. --- Gannon senior Lydia Lukomski has been named the Elite 90 award winner as the championship participant with the highest cumulative grade point average, the NCAA announced on Wednesday evening.
A biochemistry major, Lukomski boasts a 4.0 grade point average after totaling 132 completed credits. Earlier this season, she become the first individual to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion Scholar award in three straight seasons after claiming the award in 2017 and 2018. The PSAC Champion Scholar award is modeled after the Elite 90 award.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Lukomski becomes the second Gannon student-athlete to win the award in school history after Joseph Westrick (men's cross country) won the award earlier this year.
Lukomski has appeared in 64 career matches and has helped the Knights to a 30-6 overall record this season. She has totaled 187 digs, 37 service aces, 19 kills and 14 assists over four seasons for Gannon.
