PSAC Athletes of the Week - 12/9 Monday, December 9, 2019 2:30 PM WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hope Pietrocarlo Edinboro (Jr. / Distance) Bemus Point, N.Y. / Maple Grove Pietrocarlo competed in the GVSU Holiday Open hosted by Grand Valley State. While facing a strong field of 69 runners in the 5,000-meter run, Pietrocarlo posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, crossing the finish line in 14th place with a time of 17:08.97. That is the 10th-best time in Division II right now. The time is also-fifth-best in the event all-time at Edinboro. Two weeks earlier she earned All-American honors for the second straight year in cross country. WOMEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nickeela Austin IUP (Sr. / Jumps) Copiague, N.Y. / Copiague Austin posted two NCAA provisional qualifying marks as the Crimson Hawks opened up their indoor track & field season at the YSU Icebreaker Saturday. Austin had a PR in the triple jump with a leap of 11.79 meters to finish third overall. She also fell .01 meters short of a PR in the long jump with a mark of 5.76 meters. That was also third in the event. MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Charles Bowman Shippensburg (Sr. / Sprints/Hurdles) Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East Bowman posted a NCAA provisional time in the 60-meter hurdles and re-wrote his school record in the 300 meters to highlight a nice day for the Raiders at the Bison Opener from Gerhard Fieldhouse on the campus of Bucknell University on Saturday. Bowman won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.01 seconds (1st in PSAC, T-4th in D2, T-15th in NCAA (all divisions), just .06 seconds off his school record that resulted in All-America honors last season. He also claimed victory in the seldom-run 300 meters with a time of 34.74 seconds. He ran 35.16 seconds last year to originally claim the 300-meter record that had been held by Tim Cusick – now a master-level USA Cycling coach. MEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Justin Miller East Stroudsburg (So. / Jumps) Bushkill, Pa. / East Stroudsburg North Miller just missed out on an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark in the triple jump, as his leap of 47'6.25" won him the event and was good for PSAC qualifying standards, but was two centimeters short of what was needed to qualify for Nationals. Miller's jump of 47'6.25" was the sixth-longest in East Stroudsburg indoor program history. MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Colton Schnars Bloomsburg (So. / Freestyle/Backstroke) Bellefonte, Pa. / Bellefonte Schnars had a sensational weekend in the pool while competing in the Division I heavy Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron. Schnars posted three NCAA "B" cuts over the weekend and had six personal-best swims as he helped the Huskies to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Schnars had NCAA "B" swims in the 50-yard freestyle (20.60), the 100-yard backstroke (48.75), and the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.31) with his time in the 100 back breaking the previous school record of 49.20. He also swam personal-best times in the 100-yard freestyle (45.82), the 50-yard backstroke (22.77), and the 100-yard butterfly (49.67). He finished with three top-six finishes over the weekend as he placed fifth in the 50 free and the 100 back and then finished sixth in the 200 back. He was also 16th overall in the 100 fly. WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK Becca Cubbler Bloomsburg (Sr. / Distance Freestyle) Royersford, Pa. / Spring-Ford Cubbler posted four NCAA "B" swims in four events as she helped Bloomsburg to a seventh-place finish at the Division I heavy Zippy Invitational hosted by the University of Akron over the weekend. She finished with five season-best times including a 52.24 in her leg of the 400-yard free relay. Her "B" cuts came in the 200 free (1:51.69), the 500 free (4:53.82), the 1000 free (10:24.60), and the 1650 free (17:10.79). She placed fourth overall in the 500, ninth in the 1650, and 11th in the 200. Cubbler currently ranks fifth in the country in the 500, 17th in the 1650, 20th in the 1000, and 25th in the 200. She was a three-time All-American last season and looks to repeat her performance this year. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK John Castello Shippensburg (Sr. / F) Mars, Pa. / Mars Area In a 19-point win over Cal U, Castello posted his first double-double of the season and the 28th of his career. He tied a career high with 24 points, leading all players, to go along with a season-high 15 rebounds. No Raider had grabbed more than 10 rebounds in a game this season prior to Saturday. It is the 10th 20-point game of Castello's career. The rebounding edge was decisively Shippensburg's, as the Raiders out-rebounded the Vulcans by a 50-28 margin. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Matt Cerruti Lock Haven (Jr. / G) Huntingdon Valley, Pa. / Archbishop Wood Cerruti put on a clinic for the Bald Eagles in an overtime win against Seton Hill on Saturday. Cerruti iced the game in overtime hitting five points including a turnaround and one jumper to push the Haven lead to five late in the game. Cerruti was on fire all game long for a career high 32 points on an extremely efficient 11-19 from the field. He also knocked down a clutch 7-7 from the free throw line and 3-8 from beyond the arc. Cerruti also hauled in eight rebounds and snagged two steals in a special performance. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Josh Townsend Kutztown (Sr. / F) Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep Charter Townsend played a crucial role at both ends of the floor in Kutztown's 2-0 week with a pair of double-doubles, three blocks and two steals. Townsend secured his third double-double of the season in a 120-64 win over Cheyney last Wednesday, scoring a team-high 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds (four defensive). He also swatted a pair of Wolves shots in 17 minutes. The Philadelphian's strong play continued Saturday in a comeback 92-82 overtime victory over Gannon for the Golden Bears. Townsend was all over the glass, ripping down 15 rebounds and tying a career-high with 12 defensive boards. He added 14 points, a blocked shot and two steals while playing a season-high 34 minutes. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK John Paul Kromka Pitt-Johnstown (So. / F) Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway Kromka tied for game-high with 22 points on 9-13 shooting and 4-6 FTs in a 94-78 loss at Bloomsburg on Saturday. The sophomore turned in a team-high in rebounds with eight while amassing two blocks and two steals. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Frank Webb Jr. Gannon (Jr. / G) Baltimore, Md. / Our Lady of Mount Carmel Webb totaled a team-high 22 points to go along with a season-high eight rebounds, including six on the defensive end in the overtime loss at Kutztown last week. He also chipped in two steals, one block and one assist. WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Jacob Ealy Pitt-Johnstown (Fr.) Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell Ealy got a takedown early into the first overtime to upset No. 4 Chandler Minnard, 3-1, in a 19-12 #4 Pitt-Johnstown victory over #7 Ashland on Saturday. Ealy's win helped Pitt-Johnstown erase a 9-3 early deficit. With the win, Ealy, a true freshman, improved to 10-4 overall and 8-3 in dual meets. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Marley McLaughlin Shepherd (Jr. / G) Haymarket, Va. / Battlefield McLaughlin averaged 29.0 points to lead Shepherd to a 2-0 week. McLaughlin scored 23 points and hit the game-winning shot in a 62-61 win over Alderson Broaddus on Monday. She added a career and game high 35 points in an 89-86 win over Slippery Rock. She drained a a pair of free throws in the game's final seconds to give the Rams an 87-86 lead. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Lauren Lister Millersville (Jr. / G) Blandon, Pa. / Fleetwood Area Lister paced the Marauders in their 85-78 win over Edinboro Saturday, Dec. 7 marking Millersville's first conference win of the season. Lister totaled a season-high 31 points in the game going 10-of-23 shooting and a season-high 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Lister's free throws contributed to the Marauders' 8-0 run early on to set the tone. Before the game, Lister celebrated reaching the 1,000 point plateau. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Casey Remolde Kutztown (Fr. / G) Philadelphia, Pa. / Saint Basil Academy Another outstanding all-around game, Remolde helped the Golden Bears knock off previous PSAC unbeaten Gannon, 58-50, Saturday in their only game of the week. Remolde's impact continues to be felt all over the court game after game. Against the Golden Knights, the rookie from Philadelphia blocked four shots, pulled down seven rebounds (six defensive), collected a pair of steals and scored 11 points --her fourth straight game in double figures. Remolde has produced four consecutive multi-block games, with 17 over that span. She leads the PSAC with 21 total blocks and 2.6 per game --both of which rank in the top 15 in NCAA Division II. Remolde is also averaging 2.3 steals, 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Michaela Barnes Edinboro (Sr. / G) Lakewood, Ohio / Kenston Edinboro played three times this week, with Barnes scoring 31 points against both Walsh and Millersville, followed by 28 at Cheyney. The 30-point games were the fourth and fifth of her career. Walsh was an NCAA playoff team a year ago, winning 25 games. She was 29-of-34 from the line in the three games. in first two, she had nine rebounds and six assists. She has now moved into eighth place in career scoring wwith 1,440 points. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Tori Obenrader Gannon (So. / F) Fryburg, Pa. / North Clarion Obenrader turned in a career-high in steals with five against Kutztown. The sophomore grabbed four defensive rebounds in the contest.
