Kutztown Claims Fourth PSAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship

FINAL RESULTS
EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Kutztown Golden Bears won their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Indoort Track and Field Championships Saturday at the Mike S. Zafiroviski Sports and Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa.
The championship was originally scheduled to span over two days, however, due to potential extreme weather, it was condensed into one day.
All the running events were timed finals except for the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
Kutztown claimed its first team title since 2006 after producing 100.5 points. Slippery Rock finished second with 89.33 points while Shippensburg was third with 85.5 points.
Kutztown freshman Taye Dairo won the final event of the night and produced 10 points after she won the high jump when she cleared 1.69 meters on the first attempt.
Kutztown junior Kelly Groth was named the Most Outstanding Runner after finishing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.46 seconds. Groth played a crucial role in the 4x400 that resulted in a first-place finish in the event for the Golden Bears. Groth and a trio of Kutztown runners finished the event in 4:00.29. Groth needed 7.70 seconds to win the 60-meter dash.
West Chester sophomore Caroline Lewis grabbed the Most Outstanding Field Athlete award after winning the pentathlon. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters while finishing third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.13. Lewis used a throw of 9.64 meters to claim third in the shot put.
Millersville senior Sunflower Greene was named the Overall MVP after shattering the facility and meet record in the weight throw with a throw of 19.49 meters. Greene duplicated her success with a new facility and meet record in the shot put and claimed gold with a heave of 15.89 meters.
Slippery Rock won the pole vault for the 11th time in the last 15years after senior Courtney McQuaide cleared 3.95 meters on her first attempt. Teammates Madeline Marshall (3.85) and Sarah Schneider (3.60) finished second and third, respectively.
Shippensburg senior Abby Wagner hit a provisional mark in the triple jump with a distance of 12.14 meters.
IUP junior Nikeela Austin jumped to a provisional mark with a leap of 5.77 meters in the long jump.
The NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
