PSAC Athletes of the Week - 3/18 Monday, March 18, 2019 2:30 PM LACROSSE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sarah Leverentz Millersville (Jr. / MF) Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown Leverentz led Millersville to a 2-0 week including its first win in PSAC play. The junior totaled six points (five goals and one assist), 10 ground balls, four caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. She recorded a hat trick, caused a game-high three turnovers and won a team-high six draw controls in 16-5 win over Shepherd on March 12. Leverentz won a game-high five draw controls, collected six ground balls and added three points, two goals and one assist, in 18-10 win over Edinboro on March 16. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jade Stubblefield Pitt-Johnstown (So. / Util.) Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill West Stubblefield appeared in eight games and went 13-22 (.591 avg.) with 10 RBI, five runs, five doubles, three walks and a pair of homers. The sophomore went 3-for-3 against Notre Dame (OH) and 2-for-2 against Kutztown for a 5-for-5 day on Monday. Stubblefield went 2-for-4 with a homerun, a double and four RBI in a 7-2 Pitt-Johnstown win against New York Institute of Technology Thursday. She went 1-for-3 with a homerun and 3 RBI in 3-1 win over Ferris State Friday. She was leading Division II in hitting at .643 on games played through March 14. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Bekah Slattery Lock Haven (Sr. / P) Douglassville, Pa. / Daniel Boone Slattery had a stellar week down at the PFX Tournament. For the week, Slattery made six appearances (five starts) in the team’s 10 games, going 4-1 with five complete games while posting a 1.88 ERA. She finished the week with 52 strikeouts compared to six walks while allowing just 10 earned runs over 37.1 innings pitched. She allowed opponents to hit just .173 against her when she was in the circle. Her week was highlighted by wins over Hillsdale and Sioux Falls. In the game against Hillsdale, the 4-3 LHU win in eight innings, Slattery pitched all eight innings while allowing just four hits and striking out 12 for the contest. In the 3-0 win over Sioux Falls, Slattery pitched a complete-game shut out for LHU. She finished the game allowing just four hits with 12 strikeouts while allowing just one extra-base hit. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Courtney Coy Shippensburg (So. / IF) Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg Area Coy went 13-for-23 in six games this week to key a 4-2 week for the Raiders. She had four three-hit games, including a 3-for-3 Game 2 at Wilmington with two doubles. In a doubleheader sweep of Holy Family, Coy went 6-for-9 in the doubleheader with a two-run home run, two doubles, five RBIs and a pair of runs scored. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Mikayla Pourby East Stroudsburg (Fr. / P) Binghamton, N.Y. / Binghamton Pourby was responsible for two of ESU's five victories during a 5-1 week. She registered a 0.88 earned-run average over 16.0 innings, striking out 14 and limiting batters to a .210 average. The freshman tossed a four-hit shutout against Chestnut Hill on Thursday, fanning eight batters and walking only one to help ESU pull out a tight 1-0 victory. Pourby had another complete game win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday, striking out five and allowing one unearned run in a 3-2 victory. She went 23 innings without surrendering an earned run (three runs total) from Feb. 24 through March 16. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Leah Vith Slippery Rock (So. / C) Kennedy Township, Pa. / Montour Vith had an outstanding week for Slippery Rock with the team in Clermont, Florida for the Spring Games. Over her last eight games beginning on Monday, March 11, Vith has hit .522 (12-for-23) with two home runs, three doubles, a triple and 11 RBI. She has a seven-game hitting streak going and has bumped her average from .150 to a team-leading .366 (15-for-41). Vith’s bat helped SRU finish its last eight games in Clermont with a 5-3 record. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Emilee Downing Cal U (Sr. / P) Groveport, Ohio / Groveport Madison Downing worked a combined 8.0 scoreless innings last week at the PFX Spring Game, highlighted by a one-hit, complete-game shutout versus St. Thomas Aquinas. On Tuesday, she tied her season high with eight strikeouts and allowed just two base runners (single, walk) over 7.0 innings in a 1-0 victory against St. Thomas Aquainas. Downing retired 10-consecutive batters to start the game before surrendering a single and a walk in the top of the fourth. The Ohio native later posted 1.0 scoreless inning in a start versus Ferris State on Wednesday before being forced from the game due to injury. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Zack Zoller Shippensburg (Jr. / OF) Royersford, Pa. / Spring-Ford Zoller, Shippensburg's No. 9 batter turned No. 1 batter who has been in the lineup more for his glove than his bat. However, Zoller had a hit in all six games for SHIP this week, going 10-for-18 with three extra-base hits, six RBIs and four runs scored. His highlight came against Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. Zoller went 5-for-8 with three extra-base hits and five RBIs. In Game 1, Zoller was a career-best 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and four RBIs. With SU trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, and runners on first and third with one out, Zoller hit his first collegiate home run to deliver the Raiders a walkoff victory. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Cam Voss East Stroudsburg (Jr. / P) Fredonia, N.Y. / Fredonia Voss tossed six shutout innings on Sunday as he helped ESU beat Clarion 3-2 on Sunday. He recorded his first win of the season while adding eight strikeouts and yielding just one hit against the Golden Eagles. Voss has started three games this season for the Warriors, tallying 25 strikeouts through 15 innings of work. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Tommy Pellis Seton Hill (Jr. / IF) Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic Pellis was 9-21 (.429) in a 4-1 week for the Griffins. He added six runs scored, two doubles, two homers and six RBI. The junior homered in both games against Millersville this weekend, driving in five runs. He registered a hit in all five games while producing a trio of multi-hit games. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Matthew Minnick Mercyhurst (R-Sr. / P) Collins, N.Y. / Saint Francis Minnick threw a no-hitter in Friday’s win over Saginaw Valley. The redshirt senior struck out nine in the effort. MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Cormac McCooey Mercyhurst (Jr.) Dublin, Ireland / Saint Columbas McCooey currently sits at 12-3 in singles, 13-4 in doubles in 2018-19 as Mercyhurst’s # 1 singles player and member of top doubles team. The junior won the PSAC singles championship in the fall and was a member of the PSAC and ITA Atlantic doubles championship duo. WOMEN'S TENNIS EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kelsey Heckert Millersville (Fr.) Indiana, Pa. / Indiana Area Senior High Heckert went 2-1 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles play during the week. The freshman led the team to 4-3 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas on March 11 by winning both of her matches. WOMEN'S TENNIS WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NONE
