PSAC Athletes of the Week - 3/25 Monday, March 25, 2019 2:30 PM WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Stefanie Parsons Edinboro (So. / Distance) Acton, Ontario, Canada / Christ the King) Parsons began the outdoor track & field season posting a provisional time in the 1,500-meter run at the Charlotte 49er Classic. She finished third in a field of 113 competitors, setting a PR and NCAA provisional time of 4:27.59. Parsons was the top Division II finisher in the 1,500-meter run, and was the only DII athlete to finish in the top-25. WOMEN'S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Morgan DeFloria Shippensburg (Sr. / Throws) Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield Area DeFloria highlighted the season opener for the Raiders at the Elizabethtown Early Bird Open with a NCAA provisional qualifier in the javelin, throwing the spear 149 feet, 3 inches. Her throw is ninth-best in Division II. MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jalen Bailey East Stroudsburg (Fr. / Hurdles) Wilmington, Del. / Alexis I du Pont Bailey sits atop the conference in the 110-meter hurdles after turning in a time of 14.76 seconds at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The freshman needed 54.60 to complete the 400-meter hurdles at the Classic. The time is third in the PSAC. Both marks are PSAC qualifying times. MEN'S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Wade Laudeman Lock Haven (Sr. / Throws) Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg Laudeman is currently ranked No. 5 in Division II after his season-opening javelin throw of 214-01.00 on March 15. At the meet, Laudeman threw a 15-foot personal best on the way to an NCAA provisional mark in the javelin. His mark of 214.01.00 was good enough for third overall and it's the fourth-best throw in school history. On Saturday, he recorded a PR at the Juniata meet in the hammer throw (128-09.00). LACROSSE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hana Cicerelle East Stroudsburg (Jr. / MF) Broadway, N.J. / Warren Hills Cicerelle totaled a team-high nine goals and four assists, as the Warriors outscored Millersville and Edinboro by a combined margin of 34-8 to increase their winning streak to four games. The junior registered her second eight-point game of the year in Saturday's 20-3 win at Edinboro, contributing five goals and three assists. With the last of those five goals, she became the 19th player in program history to score 100 goals in her collegiate career. LACROSSE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Ryan McKinney West Chester (Sr. / ATT) Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West McKinney had a strong week for West Chester as she helped the Golden Rams to go 3-0 with one of those victories coming over a ranked opponent. On Tuesday afternoon against PSAC Rival Kutztown, McKinney logged five goals on just seven shots, which also served as a new season-high for the senior. McKinney continued her week on Thursday afternoon opposite No. 12 Pace as she recorded a pair of goals to help West Chester cruise to a 20-4 victory over it guests while also increasing her weekly goal total to seven. On Saturday afternoon against another conference foe in Seton Hill, McKinney matched her season-high goal total as she scored another five goals this time on just six shots to help West Chester cruise to an 18-10 road victory over Seton Hill. For the week, McKinney recorded 12 goals while taking just 16 shots to help bolster the Golden Ram offense throughout the week. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Logan Stirr East Stroudsburg (Fr. / IF) Canadensis, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East Stirr hit .538 through four games as he helped ESU go 3-1 on the week. The Canadensis, Pa. native went 7-for-13 at the plate and hit the first three home runs of his collegiate career. In game one of a doubleheader against Lock Haven on Sunday, Stirr went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and four total runs batted in. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Nate Fiala East Stroudsburg (So. / P) Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep Fiala tossed the eighth no-hitter in program history on Sunday in a 3-0 win over Lock Haven. The Scranton, Pa. native tallied four strikeouts and allowed just three baserunners en route to recording his third win of the season. Fiala currently sports a 0.34 earned run average and allowed only one earned run through 26.2 innings. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Eric Fairman Cal U (Sr. / IF) Pittsburgh, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson Fairman posted a .533 batting average (8-for-15), a .682 on-base percentage and an .867 slugging percentage, as the Vulcans recorded a 6-0 record last week, highlighted by a four-game sweep of IUP to open PSAC West play. During the week, he collected three extra-base hits, including a three-run homer, and registered 10 RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and 13 stolen bases. On Tuesday, Fariman finished a combined 4-for-5 with four RBI, three runs scored, two walks and five stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep over Wheeling Jesuit. The Thomas Jefferson product went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored and three stolen bases in a home sweep versus IUP on Saturday. Fairman finished a combined 2-for-5, including a three-run homer, with four RBI, three runs scored, three walks and five stolen bases in a twinbill road sweep of the Crimson Hawks on Sunday. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Nick Riggle Cal U (Jr. / P) Pittsburgh, Pa. / Keystone Oaks Riggle earned the complete-game victory in Game 1 on Saturday, as the Vulcans claimed a 3-1 win over IUP at Wild Things Park. He scattered just one hit and one run (earned) while issuing zero walks and tallying six strikeouts in 7.0 innings (83 pitches) against the Crimson Hawks. Riggle retired the side in order four times and forced nine ground-outs and six fly-outs. MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Cormac McCooey Mercyhurst (Jr.) Dublin, Ireland / Saint Columbas McCooey went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles during wins over West Chester and Millersville. The junior picked up a win, 6-2, 6-0, vs Chris Succi (WCU) before he teamed with Unai Amilleta Gonzalez for 6-1 win over Succi and Noah DeCampo. McCooey earned a hard-fought three-set win, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6), vs Carlos Martinez-Lucas of Millersville. The junior teamed with Gonzalez for a 6-2 doubles win against Martinez-Lucas and Peter Landis. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kristie Radvan Pitt-Johnstown (So. / IF) Sarver, Pa. / Freeport Radvan batted .400 while slugging .733 in four contests that resulted in three Pitt-Johnstown wins. The sophomore drove in six runs while scoring twice. She turned in a pair of extra base hits while launching a solo homer in Sunday's contest against Shippensburg. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Bekah Slattery Lock Haven (Sr. / P) Douglassville, Pa. / Daniel Boone Slattery struck out 12 on the way to on the way to the win over Millersville in the first game of a doubleheader. She scattered just two hits and walked one. The senior appeared in the second game and struck out two in two innings of work. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Courtney Coy Shippensburg (So. / IF) Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg Area Coy went 8-for-16 in four games this weekend, hitting a grand slam, three doubles, nine RBI and reaching base nine times in a 3-1 weekend for the Raiders. Coy hit a grand slam in a five-run fifth inning in Game 1 at Pitt-Johnstown that flipped a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead for SU. On Saturday at IUP, Coy reached base in seven of her nine plate appearances to raise her batting average to .529 through 20 games this season. Coy was 6-for-8 with two doubles, five RBIs, a walk and three runs scored. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kaylee Hazewski East Stroudsburg (Jr. / OF) Middletown, Del. / Red Lion Christian Academy Hazewski batted .600 while leading the team in hits (12), runs scored (10) and stolen bases (9 for 9) during a 5-1 week for the Warriors. The junior broke ESU's all-time record for stolen bases with the first of her four thefts in a doubleheader sweep over Virginia Union on Sunday. She has 80 stolen bases in 105 collegiate games, and her 32 steals are 15 more than any other PSAC player. She recorded the 100th hit of her ESU career in Saturday's twin bill sweep at Bowie State. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Jen Hanshaw West Chester (So. / P) Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Hanshaw had a strong week in the circle for West Chester as she pitched to a perfect 3-0 record scattering just nine hits and a pair of unearned runs while fanning six batters to help West Chester to an impressive 8-0 week. Hanshaw picked up her first two wins of the week in relief appearances opposite Pace and Chestnut Hill as she went five innings between the course of those two appearances as she worked the Golden Rams out of tight spots in both contests allowing just one unearned run along the way. On Saturday afternoon against Chowan, Hanshaw closed out game one with a solid seventh inning before earning her first start of the week in game two. In game two, Hanshaw was on point throughout the afternoon as she scattered just five hits and one unearned run over the course of her five innings of work while striking out of a pair of Chowan batters as well. This solid performance enabled West Chester to record just its third shortened victory of the season as the Golden Rams won 9-1 in five innings. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Olivia Jankowski Edinboro (Sr. / OF) Hamburg, N.Y. / Lancaster Jankowski helped Edinboro sweep its first opponent since 2017. The senior went 4-of-7 over the two contests for three runs on a home run, a double, two singles, and a walk. The home run was her second of the season. In the first contest against the Golden Eagles, Edinboro won 19-2 and had a season-high 18 hits. The senior had a career-high six RBI and finished the doubleheader with eight. In game two, Jankowski was one of eight Fighting Scots who scored a run in an eight-run second inning. She ended the day leapfrogging four Fighting Scots to ninth in career RBIs with 58. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Skyla Greco Seton Hill (So. / P) Ellwood City, Pa. / Lincoln Greco helped the Griffins to a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit by throwing a no hitter in game two. Greco went the distance, giving up just an unearned run (error in the 1st inning) to keep the Cardinals hitless. The sophomore struck out six in the win.
