PSAC Releases 2018-19 Winter Top 10 Honorees

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is pleased to announce its Winter 2018-19 Top 10 Award recipients, chosen and voted on by the league’s sports information directors. The PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition.
 
Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the Top 10 is given to five males and five females in each athletic season; fall, winter and spring.
 
The Winter 2018-19 awards winners are Bloomsburg’s Becca Cubbler, Seton Hill’s Nathan Davis, East Stroudsburg’s Tiffany Lapotsky, IUP’s Dante Lombardi, Lock Haven’s Chance Marsteller, West Chester’s Nadia Mulder, West Chester’s Dylan North, Slippery Rock’s JJ Ollio, Clarion’s Christina Sather and Shippensburg’s Abby Wagner.
 
Marsteller, Lombardi and Ollio are two-time honorees.

Women's Swimming - Jr.
Major: Early Childhood Education / Special Education
Cumulative GPA: 3.87


Three-time NCAA Division II All-American – 12th in 500 free (4:53.65), 13th in 1000 free (10:09.18), 16th in 1650 free (17:03.48) … became first female swimmer at Bloomsburg since head coach Stu Marvin took over as head coach in 2008 to earn All-American status in three individual events in same year … all four of her times at NCAA Championships were personal bests including two school records as she broke her own record in the 1000 free and then broke a 33-year-old school record in the 500 free … personal-best time in 100 free at NCAAs (51.72) which placed her 38th overall … five-time All-PSAC honoree after placing second in both the 1000 free and 400 free relay and finishing third in 200 free, 800 free relay, and 400 medley relay at PSAC Championships . . . first BU female swimmer since head coach Stu Marvin took over in 2008 to earn All-American status in three individual events in same year … broke two school records at 2019 NCAA Division II National Championships (500 free (4:53.65) and 1000 free (10:09.18) …  won PSAC title in 400 free relay at 2018 PSAC Championships … 12-time All-PSAC honoree through first three seasons … two-time D2 ADA Scholar-Athlete … two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete … two-time NCAA Academic All-American … three-time NCAA Championship qualifier

Men's Basketball - Jr.
Major: Spanish
Cumulative GPA: 3.95

Second leading scorer for the Griffins, averaging 19.2 points per game, which was sixth in the league ... led the Griffins with 7.4 rebounds per game ... led the PSAC in three pointers made per game (3.2) and was seventh in three point percentage (38.2%) ... also fifth in free throw percentage (82.3%) ... named to the 2018-19 CoSIDA Academic All America Division II Men's Basketball Team as a first team selection ...  second team All-PSAC West selection ... scored his 1,000th career point as a Griffin.

All-PSAC East first team … Paced ESU in field goals, 3-pt field goals, free throws, and points per game … Started 27 of ESU’s 28 games this season and scored 10 or more points in 18 consecutive games … Scored 20 or more points in a game eight times, including a career-high 30 at home against West Chester … Scored more points this season (478) than the first two seasons combined with the Warriors (442) … Finished as the leading scorer in 17 of ESU’s 28 games . . .CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America second team . . . All-Region (top five mark in the region) in both the shot put and the weight throw … All-PSAC in both throwing events with second place finishes in the shot put and weight throw to score 16 individual points for SRU at the PSAC indoor meet … had second best shot put mark in the entire Atlantic Region (16.97 meters) … had second best weight throw mark in the entire Atlantic Region (17.63 meters) … one of only two throwers in the Atlantic Region to record an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw … one of only five throwers in the Atlantic Region to record an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put … The only thrower in the entire Atlantic Region to record NCAA marks in both indoor throwing disciplines ... Spring Top 10 honoree in 2018 … All-PSAC in the shot put in all seven PSAC championship meets he has competed in during his career … has placed and scored points for SRU at PSAC championship meets in 14 different events over the course of his career … All-Region in each of the last five seasons (three indoor, two outdoor) in multiple throwing events … SRU record holder in the discus outdoor … national qualifier in the discus and the shot put outdoor in 2018 … four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and USTFCCCA All-Academic Honoree … graduated with a 3.71 GPA after 124 credit hours with a degree in health care administration and management with a concentration in information systems management … also got three minors with his undergraduate degree … perfect 4.0 in graduate program.

CSCAA Division II National Women’s Diver of the Year… NCAA Champion in 3m Dive… NCAA third place in 1m Dive… Clarion placed 18th out of 45 teams at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships despite the fact that only Sather and one other diver competed for the Golden Eagles… achieved great success despite the fact that Clarion’s pool is currently under renovation, having to travel more than an hour each way to train at Westminster’s pool after student-teaching during the day ... Eight-time All-American, earning honors in every dive and every year at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships… two-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II National Women’s Diver of the year, winning in back-to-back years (2018-19)… helped diving coach Dave Hrovat win two straight CSCAA Division II National Women’s Coach of the Year honors (2018-19)… two-time national champion in her career, winning the 3m dive in 2019 and the 1m Dive in 2018… Clarion and PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

2019 NCAA Indoor All-American in Triple Jump (6th place)…school record and PR of 41-1.5 (12.53 meters) achieved at the NCAA Championships…SU’s first-ever All-America First Team performer in the indoor triple jump…2019 PSAC Champion in the triple jump after a victorious mark and meet record of 39 feet, 10 inches…2019 PSAC place-winner in long jump (6th place, 17-9.5)…PSAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Feb. 5. . . 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District…INDOORS: broke SU indoor triple jump record three times as a senior…3-time All-PSAC indoors in triple jump (1st in 2019, 3rd in 2018, 2nd in 2017)…3-time PSAC indoor place-winner in long jump (6th in 2019, 5th in 2017, 6th in 2016)
 
To be a candidate for the PSAC Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials for their respective team. The winter sports eligible for consideration for the Winter Top 10 Awards are men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and wrestling.
 
At the conclusion of the academic year, all Top 10 Award winners from each season are eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, given to one male and one female candidate.
