PSAC Football Athletes of the Week - 2 Monday, September 16, 2019 10:30 AM FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Tyson Bagent Shepherd (So. / QB) Martinsburg, W. Va. / Martinsburg Bagent completed 36-of-54 passes for 438 yards and three scores in Shepherd's win over Mercyhurst. Bagent's 36 completions tie the Shepherd single game mark he set last year against Notre Dame. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Shawn Turber-Ortiz Kutztown (Jr. / S) Northumberland, Pa. / Shikellamy Turber-Ortiz tied a career-high with 14 tackles and made his 10th career interception in Kutztown's 35-28 win at Cal U on Saturday. The redshirt junior registered seven solo tackles and assisted on seven more. He also recorded one tackle for loss. Turber-Ortiz leads the PSAC and ranks 14th in NCAA DII with 12.5 tackles per game. His 10 interceptions are tied for ninth most in KU program history. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Michael Allen Bloomsburg (Sr. / WR) Oley, Pa. / Fleetwood Allen's first collegiate punt return for a touchdown - a 65-yard score with 4:50 left in regulation - lifted the Bloomsburg University football team to a 24-21 come-from-behind victory at Edinboro University for the Huskies' first victory of the season. Allen hauled in a Corey Badaracco punt at the Bloomsburg 35-yard line and went untouched 65 yards to paydirt for the longest return of his career and his first career punt return for a score to give the Huskies their first lead of the day, 22-21, with 4:50 left. The Huskies added a two-point conversion and then was able to hold off the Fighting Scots to preserve the win. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Quinton Maxwell IUP (Sr. / QB) Rayville, Mo. / Richmond R-XVI Maxwell completed 12-15 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns, rushing for a fourth score in just one half of action as the No. 24 Crimson Hawks defeated Millersville 54-0 Saturday. Maxwell had a 46-yard TD to Duane Brown on IUP's first play of the game and finished with five completions of 20 yards or more. In addition to the opening play, he also had TD tosses of 38 and 37 yards. The senior had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, one of three scores accounted for in the opening 15 minutes. 248 first half yards helped IUP pass for 399 for the game, the sixth highest single game total in program history and the most since 407 yards in 2001. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Brad Zaffram Slippery Rock (Sr. / LB) Buffalo, N.Y. / Canisius Zaffram had six total tackles, including five solo and one tackle for loss, but also had one interception, one pass breakup and was credited with four QB hurries in leading the Slippery Rock defense in a 54-19 win over Shippensburg in which SRU shut out Ship for more than 40 minutes after going down 10-0 early. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK James Metzgar Clarion (Sr. / K/P) Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Metzgar helped Clarion to a 48-20 win over Lock Haven on Saturday, contributing with his feet in more ways than one. The senior went 5-of-6 on extra points and also added three punts for an average of 40.0 yards per kick, including one planted inside the 20-yard line. His most exciting play of the day came late in the game, when a breakdown forced Metzgar to evade a tackler in the backfield and go on the run. He eluded tacklers and went off for a 28-yard rush to give Clarion a first down. The Golden Eagles scored a touchdown on the very next play.
