PSAC Athletes of the Week - 9/23 Monday, September 23, 2019 10:30 AM MEN'S GOLF ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Mitch Faulkner Clarion (Sr.) Bradford, Pa. / Bradford Faulkner won the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational. He fired a 75 in the first round before notching a 73 in the second. WOMEN'S GOLF ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Alyssa Drehs Gannon (Fr.) Seville, Ohio / Medina Drehs continued her impressive start to her collegiate career, notching a third-place finish in a field of 91 at the loaded Cumberland Trail Classic. The freshman carded a 1-over 145 to lead the Lady Knights, who recorded their best team round in at least 15 years with a 302 in Sunday's first round. Drehs has two top-five finishes in four events this season. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Laurel Moyer Lock Haven (Jr.) Lock Haven, Pa. / Central Mountain Moyer led the way for the Bald Eagles as she turned in another brilliant early-season effort. She battled the heat and large field, and finished 10th overall in the loaded 403-runner field. Moyer covered Lock Haven's flat 6,000-meter course in an impressive 21:28.3. She was the second NCAA Division II finisher and the top finisher from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Lock Haven was fourth out of 37 teams. VOLLEYBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sarah Smith East Stroudsburg (Sr. / OH) Circleville, N.Y. / Pine Bush Smith helped the Warriors to go 4-0 on the week at the ESU Invitational as she recorded 44 kills to go along with 32 digs and nine blocks. Smith also delivered five aces on the week and leads ESU with 128 kills this season. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHEAST DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jayci Suseland Millersville (Sr. / OPP) Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft Suseland led Millersville to a 4-0 week by posting a .512 hitting percentage, totaling 47 kills and just three errors on 86 attacks. Suseland also totaled 14 blocks for an average of 1.27 per set. Against Dominican, Suseland totaled 12 kills to one error on 15 attacks. Against Southern New Hampshire, she replicated her 12 kills to one error from the previous match and added three block assists. She hit .440 with 12 kills to one error and totaled a season-high eight block assists against USciences, and closed the weekend with 11 kills and no errors on 16 attacks. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHEAST DIVISION CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Peyton Lindblad Shepherd (Sr. / OH) Fredericksburg, Va. / Riverbend Lindblad led the Rams to a 4-0 week with 49 kills. Shepherd set a program record with its 12-game winning streak. Lindblad had a .456 attack percentage. The senior turned in double-digit efforts in kills in all four of the Rams matches. VOLLEYBALL NORTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Julie Holden Clarion (Sr. / OH) Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick Holden had perhaps the best four-match stretch of her career at the Atlantic Region crossover, with the senior leading Clarion to a 3-1 record with a number of exceptional offensive performances. Holden recorded 31 kills in Clarion's four-set win over Fairmont State on Friday, which is one of the best single-match marks in program history and the most for a Golden Eagle since Melanie Bull recorded 33 kills against IUP on Oct. 22, 2002. She did it while still hitting a more-than-respectable .267 from the outside hitter spot. In Clarion's three-set win against Notre Dame (Ohio) she finished with 25 kills in just three sets, and committed just three errors for a .458 hitting percentage. All told, she averaged 5.92 kills per set over the weekend and hit .298, while also averaging 1.15 digs and 1.15 blocks per set. VOLLEYBALL SOUTHWEST DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Viktoria Farian Seton Hill (Jr. / OH) Richfield, Ohio / Revere Farian led the Griffins this past week, averaging over 5.1 kills per set in four matches. She hit .315 for the week. Viktoria finished the week with 82 kills. She also added 55 digs, posting a double-double in each match. Farian posted a career-high 28 kills in a four set match against Findlay. VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Alyssa Cianciulli Bloomsburg (Jr. / DS) Royersford, Pa. / Pope John Paul II Cianciulli was a defensive stalwart for the Huskies over the weekend as she helped Bloomsburg to a 2-2 record in the state of West Virginia. The junior posted a total of 101 digs and averaged 7.77 digs per set in the four matches. She also chipped in with a kill, three aces, and 16 assists from her libero position. Her 101 digs moved her to within 34 of reaching 1,000 for her Bloombsurg career and she has now reached double figures in digs in all 40 of Bloomsburg's matches in program history. She leads the PSAC in digs per set (6.91) and trails only Concordia's Nelly Diaz (7.25) in all of Division II. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Aaron Pfeil Lock Haven (Jr.) Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Fayette Pfeil was third out of 373 total runners and covered the 8,000-meter course with a career-best 25:07.0 and helped Lock Haven take home the team title. He was the top DII finisher and the top PSAC finisher. Pfeil out ran a Gannon foe down the stretch and helped Lock Haven upset a number of rivals including Edinboro, Shippensburg and Davis & Elkins. FIELD HOCKEY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kat Roncoroni West Chester (Sr. / F) Lebanon Township, N.J. / Voorhees Roncoroni scored a pair of goals during West Chester's 2-0 week. The senior scored line goal to top defending national champ Shippensburg on the road Wednesday. She tallied a goal against No. 10 IUP. FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Claire Nielsen West Chester (Fr. / GK) Wescosville, Pa. / Emmaus Nielsen had two shutouts in two outings, including blanking defending national champions on the road. She went 2-0 last week, beating two nationally ranked opponents ((No. 6 Shippensburg and No. 10 IUP). Nielsen made four saves in the two games. MEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Shane Hartey West Chester (So. / F) Runnemede, N.J. / Triton Hall Hartey scored the winning goal in Saturday's game in double overtime to beat Lock Haven. It was Hartey's first goal of the year. The sophomore has amassed five points so far this season. MEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nathan Maynard Millersville (Jr. / D) Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area Along with Maynard's superb work defensively, this week he sent pinpoint passes forward that led to Millersville goals. In Wednesday's game against Lock Haven, he was credited with one assist as he booted a beautiful ball to let a forward run onto it in space behind the defense for the easy tap in. In the same game, he also picked out a forward in the midfield that led to another goal, but was not credited for an assist. Then on Saturday's game vs. Shippensburg, Maynard kicked it towards goal with just seconds remaining in the game. The ball one-hopped and a forward was able to score with one second remaining in the game. Maynard has been key to Millersville's season and this week's victories. MEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Abdallah Bangura Slippery Rock (So. / MF) Freetown, Sierra Leone / Susquehannock Bangura led The Rock to a 1-0-0 record last week with a 4-0 victory in a key non-conference matchup with the University of the District of Columbia. Bangura finished the week with five points on two goals and one assist, playing 83 minutes against UDC. The sophomore tied his season-high in goals with two and set a new season-high with five shots, four being on goal. Bangura has recorded at least two shots on goal in four of five games this season, including four shots on goal against Shepherd and UDC. MEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Matt Hunsberger Slippery Rock (Sr. / GK) Moon Township, Pa. / Moon Hunsberger led The Rock to a 1-0-0 record last week after a 4-0 shutout victory in a key non-conference matchup with the University of the District of Columbia. Hunsberger finished the week with eight saves in 90 clean minutes against UDC. The eight saves was a season-high for Hunsberger and the shutout was his second of 2019. The senior improved his season record to 2-2-1 overall. WOMEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jenny Bail West Chester (Sr. / MF) Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Bail scored two goals in Saturday's game against Lock Haven. Bail and the Golden Rams are a flawless 5-0 this season while sporting a 4-0 record in conference play. WOMEN'S SOCCER EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Reagan Kolinski Millersville (Fr. / GK) Derry, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy Kolinski helped the Marauders to a pair of victories in PSAC East action after producing a pair of shutouts. The freshman amassed seven saves in wins against Lock Haven and Shippensburg. WOMEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Rachel Edge Slippery Rock (So. / F) Pine Grove, Pa. / Pine Grove Edge finished the week with seven points on two goals and three assists, playing 57 minutes against Seton Hill along with 90 minutes against Mercyhurst. The sophomore recorded the game-winning goal and assisted on the game-tying goal in The Rock’s victory over Mercyhurst, while adding a goal and two assists against Seton Hill. WOMEN'S SOCCER WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Emma Yoder Slippery Rock (So. / GK) Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Central Yoder led The Rock to a 2-0-0 record last week including a 4-1 home victory over Seton Hill and a 2-1 overtime victory on the road against Mercyhurst. Yoder finished the week with two saves, a 0.63 goals against average and a .500 save percentage. The sophomore played 90 minutes against Seton Hill and 99:35 on the road against Mercyhurst, improving her season record to 5-1-0 (4-0-0 PSAC West). FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Tyson Bagent Shepherd (So. / QB) Martinsburg, W. Va. / Martinsburg Bagent completed 30-of-44 for 394 yards and five touchdowns in Shepherd's win over Clarion. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Collin DiGalbo Kutztown (Sr. / QB) Secane, Pa. / Monsignor Bonner DiGalbo surpassed 7,000 career passing yards and was part of all five touchdowns in the Golden Bears' 35-10 victory over Gannon on Saturday. DiGalbo completed 25-of-32 passes for 316 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 98 yards on 16 carries, scoring three times. The senior tied his own program single-game record for rushing TDs by a quarterback. DiGalbo is just the third KU quarterback to throw for 7,000 yards or more all-time (7,020). He also moved into third in program history in career completions (561) during Saturday's win. The Secane, Pa., native ranks in the top five nationally in rushing touchdowns (six), total points responsible for (96) and per game (32.0), passing touchdowns (10), scoring (12.0) and total offense (377.0 ypg). FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nick Vasger Kutztown (Jr. / DE) Hatfield, Pa. / North Penn Vasger recorded 1.5 sacks, 3.0 tackles for loss and recovered a fumble during the Golden Bears' 35-10 win over Gannon on Saturday. Vasger was disruptive to the Golden Knights offensive game plan all afternoon, as were his KU teammates. He finished with four tackles on the day and his three tackles for loss cost Gannon 14 yards. Vasger, a native of Hatfield, Pa., teamed up with Eric Miller to bring down Gannon QB Jimmy Keefe in the backfield late in the first quarter. Midway through the fourth he dropped Keefe for an eight yard loss on a solo sack. Vasger also recovered a fumble at Gannon's 10 on the Knights' first possession of the second half, which was set up by a Togba Porte II sack and forced fumble --one of six sacks for the KU defense on the day. The Golden Bears scored off the turnover to go up 28-3. FOOTBALL EASTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK George Lambritsios West Chester (Jr. / P) Broomall, Pa. / Marple Newtown Lambritsios averaged 49.8 yards per punt on four punts, including a 63-yarder that was downed inside the 1-yard line and led to a safety on the very first offensive play by Seton Hill. Three of his four punts went over 50 yards and each of those were inside the 20-yard line. Following his four punts, SHU's starting drives were at the 14-, 1-, 15- and 2-yard lines. None of those four drives got further than the SHU 42-yard line and two of them didn't even get outside the Griffins' own 10-yard line. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Roland Rivers III Slippery Rock (Sr. / QB) Ellenwood, Ga. / Martin Luther King Rivers III completed 21-of-26 passes for 339 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions in limited work in a 49-0 win over Millersville. He played just one series of the second half. Rivers III also rushed for 37 yards to account for 376 yards of total offense. Through three weeks, Rivers is completing 76.7 percent of his passes for 1,113 yards with 16 touchdowns and no INT. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jimmy Pierce Cal U (Jr. / DB) Uniontown, Pa. / Laruel Highlands Pierce posted his second career interception return for a touchdown on Saturday in a 58-7 win against Shippensburg. He finished with four tackles (three solo), 1.0 TFL and one quarterback hurry in the contest. Late in the second quarter, Pierce recorded his first interception of the year and returned the turnover 39 yards to stretch the lead to 28-0 with 4:23 left before halftime. Cal U forced four turnovers and tallied five sacks in the victory, while allowing the only score for Shippensburg with 6:01 remaining in the fourth quarter. FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Dillon Sarka IUP (Sr. / PK) Lebanon, Ohio / Waynesburg Sarka broke the IUP single game record with 11 extra points in the Crimson Hawks 77-14 win over Lock Haven. The 11 PATs are tied for the most of any kicker in any NCAA division this season.
