PSAC Athletes of the Week - 2/17 Monday, February 17, 2020 2:30 PM MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Charles Bowman Shippensburg (Sr. / Sprints/Hurdles) Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East Bowman had a great weekend at the 2020 VMI Indoor Classic. On Friday, Bowman ran 7.94 seconds in the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles, improving his school record by .01 seconds and his season best by .05 seconds to put him in sixth place on the national leaderboard for the event. He ran 8.06 seconds in prelims. He did not run in the finals on Saturday. On Saturday, Bowman ran with Aaron Arp Jr., freshman Stephon Brown and freshman Drew Dailey on the 4x400-meter relay, anchoring the quartet to a time of 3:12.83 for a two-second win. The time is just .31 seconds off the school record set in 2015 at Boston's Valentine Invitational that also stands as the conference record. Shippensburg now ranks fifth nationally in the event (fourth overall as there are two Saint Augustine's relays). MEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Shamar Jenkins Shippensburg (So. / Jumps) Souderton, Pa. / Souderton On Friday at the 2020 VMI Indoor Classic, redshirt-sophomore Jenkins improved his season best in the triple jump with a second-place, NCAA-provisional qualifier of 48 feet, 4 inches. The mark now ranks second in the PSAC and 19th nationally. WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Caroline Lewis West Chester (Jr. / Multi) West Chester, Pa. / West CHester East Lewis placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.72 seconds, improving upon her NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying mark in this event. Lewis earned a personal best finish in the 200-meter, placing fourth with a time of 25.17, improving upon her PSAC-qualifying mark. WOMEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Aliyah Striver Millersville (Jr. / Throws) Lancaster, Pa. / McCaskey Striver's 47-3 3/4 was more than eight inches further than her previous best and nearly three feet better than any other mark in the PSAC this season. Striver's mark out-distanced Princeton's Julia Harisay, who hit 44-9 3/4. Striver also finished fourth in the weight throw. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Collin Bishop Kutztown (Jr. / SS) Laurel Springs, N.J. / Highland Regional Bishop collected three multi-hit and multi-RBI games while hitting .667 last weekend as the Golden Bears split a four-game set on the road at Chowan to open their 2020 season. Bishop, who missed all but six games last year due to injury, made an impressive return to lead Kutztown in batting average, hits, doubles, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage and on base percentage over the course of the weekend. In KU's season-opener, Friday, Bishop went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in a 12-2 victory that gave head coach Eric Folmar his first career win. He finished off the nightcap by going 1-for-2 with a double, walk and run scored. Bishop provided a spark offensively in game one, Saturday, registering a pair of doubles in three at-bats, and three RBIs to lead Kutztown past the Hawks, 7-5. He followed that up with a perfect 3-for-3 game two at the dish and knocked in two more runs. Bishop finished the weekend 8-for-12 with three doubles, eight RBIs and four runs scored. BASEBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Cam Voss East Stroudsburg (Sr. / P) Fredonia, N.Y. / Fredonia Voss started a pair of games for East Stroudsburg to open the season and recorded a win against Assumption on Feb. 15. Voss recorded 12 strikeouts through five innings of work without allowing a hit against Assumption. He has a total of 16 strikeouts through eight innings pitched this season and has allowed only one hit. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Isaiah Kearns Pitt-Johnstown (Jr. / DH) Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County Kearns has sparked Pitt-Johnstown's offense while batting .522 with a .957 slugging percentage over the teams first eight contests. The Mountain Cats are currently 8-0 on the young season. Kearns amassed 12 hits, 10 RBI, nine runs and four doubles. He has recorded a hit in all but one game. BASEBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Braxton Roxby Pitt-Johnstown (Jr. / RHP) Windber, Pa. / Windber Roxby struck out 12 batters in 7.0 innings of work in two appearances. The junior picked up the win agaisnt Fairmont State after tossing five innings of two-hit ball. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Heath Robbie West Chester (Fr. / G) Whittlesea, Australia / Abington Heath scored 50 points in a 100-97 win over Bloomsburg University on Saturday. He had 28 points in the team's 83-78 loss at Shepherd University on Wednesday. Heath averaged 8.5 rebounds while draining 11 three-pointers and going 27-of-31 from the free throw line. MEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Christian Kelly Lock Haven (Sr. / G) Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville Kelly asserted himself all over the Bald Eagles massive upset win over No. 24 Shippensburg on Saturday. Lock Haven pulled the upset 104-103 in double overtime and Kelly was dominant on the defensive end. Kelly recorded a career high five blocks and was a force on the glass grabbing eight defensive rebounds. Kelly had his hands all over the overtime periods including the basket to force double overtime followed by a block in the final seconds to preserve the tie. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Micah Till Slippery Rock (Sr. / F) Upper Marlboro, Md. / Wise Till averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.5 steals and shot 62,1 percent from the field in leading Slippery Rock to a 2-0 week that clinched a PSAC playoff berth. He scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made 11 field goals in leading Slippery Rock to a win over Pitt-Johnstown, which was ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region. He then tallied 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked five shots, had four steals and three assists in leading Slippery Rock to a 58-50 win over Seton Hill in which he scored seven points in the final 2:15 as SRU rallied from an 11-point deficit by closing the game on a 24-5 run over the final 10 minutes. MEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Armoni Foster IUP (So. / G) Meadville, Pa. / Meadville Foster had four steals and four blocks and averaged 4.0 defensive rebounds in wins over Cal U and Gannon. Foster made two big blocks on Cal U's Brent Pegram as the game remained in the balance in the closing minutes, first on a jumper with four minutes left and again on a 3-point attempt as IUP led 73-67 with 1:37 to play. He came up big defensively in the 85-83 win over Gannon with three steals and two blocks. Both blocks came on Gannon's Frank Webb Jr. in the opening minute. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Lauren Lister Millersville (Jr. / G) Blandon, Pa. / Fleetwood Area Lister broke the Millersville women's basketball all-time scoring record in the game against Shippensburg on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The 41-point effort marked a new career-high for the junior and placed her at 1544 career-points. Lister converted a 3-point play with just 21.3 seconds remaining in the game to reach the career milestone. Lister's 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting led the Marauders to a 62-48 victory over Mansfield on Saturday, Feb. 15. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EASTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kryshell Gordy Shippensburg (Jr. / F) Chester, Pa. / Ursuline Academy Gordy had 10 defensive rebounds, four blocks and three steals as the Raiders went 2-0 this week. SU's top defender, Gordy had her second double-double of the year against Lock Haven -- grabbing eight defensive rebounds, blocking two shots and picking up two steals. Against Millersville, Gordy had two boards and two blocks. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Michaela Barnes Edinboro (Sr. / G) Lakewood, Ohio / Kenston Barnes led Edinboro to an 82-59 win at Clarion and a 77-53 win over Cal U, with Edinboro clinching a PSAC Tournament berth for the 11th straight year with the win over Cal U. She led Edinboro in scoring in both games, and has now been the leading scorer the last eight games. She scored 28 points vs. Clarion and then had her seventh 30-point game against Cal U as Edinboro defeated the Vulcans for the sixth straight time. Barnes made 23-of-43 shots, including 2-of-3 3-pointers, and was 10-of-13 at the line. She added 12 rebounds and 9 assists. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Haley Tewes Gannon (Sr. / F) Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Kettering Tewes produced a solid week while amassing four blocked shots, four steals and seven defensive rebounds while Gannon went 1-1 on the week. Tewes blocked all four of her shots in a win against Mercyhurst. She snagged four defensive boards and a steal in a close loss to IUP. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WESTERN DIVISION DEFENSIVE CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Maddie Shanahan Pitt-Johnstown (Jr. / F) West Chester, Pa. / Unionville Shanahan averaged 2.0 blocks and 10.0 defensive rebounds in a pair of games for Pitt-Johnstown. The junior blocked a pair of shots and grabbed a dozen defensive boards against Slippery Rock. She swatted two more shots and grabbed a steal in a win against Clarion. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK MiKayla Ruppert Lock Haven (So. / OF) Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty Ruppert opened the 2020 season in a big way offensively. Through the first six games of the season, she’s hitting .444 with three doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Her slugging percentage is .722 and her on-base percentage is .500. Overall, Ruppert is 8 for 18 at the plate in six starts. After going hitless in the first two games of the season, Ruppert went on a tear, going 8 for 13 (.615) in her final four games, including three multiple hit games. In a win over Southern Connecticut State, she was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a triple. In the weekend ending win over Goldey-Beacom, Ruppert was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs. SOFTBALL CENTRAL DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Jada Schellhammer Lock Haven (Fr. / P/3B) Tamaqua, Pa. / Tamaqua Schellhammer picked up her first two collegiate wins while defeating Southern Connecticut St. and Goldey-Beacom. The freshman struck out six batters in three appearances while throwing three complete games. In the win against Goldey-Beacom, she allowed two earned runs and scattered six hits in seven innings of work. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Hannah Marsteller Shippensburg (So. / 1B) Fredericksburg, Va. / Riverbend Marsteller hit .429 with nine hits (seven of which went for extra bases) and eight RBIs as Shippensburg went 4-2 in Myrtle Beach at the Snowbird Softball Freeze Out. She had hits in five of six games, including multiple hits in four games. She had a triple and three RBIs against West Virginia State, a home run, double and three RBIs in Game 1 against Southern Connecticut, two doubles and an RBI in Game 2 against Southern Connecticut, and doubles against both Goldey-Beacom and No. 17 St. Anselm. SOFTBALL EASTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Courtney Coy Shippensburg (Jr. / P) Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg Coy went 2-0 for the Raiders in Myrtle Beach. She pitched a five-inning complete game shutout over Southern Connecticut in which she allowed four hits, no walks, no runs and struck out three. She began with a regional victory over West Virginia State in which she threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs, six hits, six walks and six strikeouts. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jenna Osikowicz Seton Hill (Jr. / UTIL) Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield Osikowicz led the Seton Hill offense this past weekend in Myrtle Beach. She was 9-18 (.500) with 3 doubles, a homer and 2 RBI. The junior was 4-4 with 2 doubles against Lock Haven and followed that with a 2-4 with a double and homer against WV State. SOFTBALL WESTERN DIVISION PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ellie Lobdell Cal U (Fr. / P) Warren, Pa. / Warren Lobdell posted a 1-1 record and a 1.15 ERA over the weekend, as Cal U opened the year with six games at the Cactus Classic in Arizona. She logged a team-leading 18.1 innings pitched over four appearances with a pair of starts. In her college debut, Lobdell yielded two runs (one earned) on three hits and recorded five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of relief against Texas Permian Basin on Friday. The Warren native earned a complete-game victory the following day after allowing three runs (one earned) over 7.0 innings in 5-3 win against Western New Mexico. Lobdell later surrendered two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks over 6.0 innings in a start against Eastern New Mexico on Sunday.
