IUP's Fedor Joins Elite Company; 2019-20 PSAC Men's Golf All-Conference Teams Released
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- IUP swept the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Golf major awards, the league announced Tuesday afternoon in conjunction with the release of the men’s golf all-conference teams.
All-conference teams and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
It marks the first time since 2015-16 (Mercyhurst) that an institution has swept the major awards and is the sixth time in league history.
IUP freshman Shaun Fedor was voted Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year. He is the third athlete in the PSAC to garner both awards in the same season and first since IUP’s Graham Hill (2004 & 05). It marks the 16th time that an IUP athlete has received the Athlete of the Year award while Fedor is the 10th IUP freshman to claim Freshman of the Year.
Fedor turned in four top ten efforts in five events, including winning the individual title at the PSAC Championship. He shot a 70 in the second round of the three-round event. Fedor finished fifth at the Davis & Elkins while tying for ninth at the St. Rose Fall Shootout. The freshman finished his campaign with a 74.91 scoring average while completing 11 rounds. He finished the season ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region according to GolfStat.
IUP’s Dan Braun was tabbed Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. It marks the 16th time that IUP has boasted the winner. Braun led IUP to its 29th PSAC title while the Crimson Hawks claimed three team titles overall in the fall. Under his direction, IUP finished the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region while three athletes were named to all-conference and all-region.
Cal U senior Ryan Smith earned his third first-team all-conference accolade.
