QUICK HITS
ESU – ESU is coming off a commanding victory last week following the play of a pair of PSAC Athletes of the Week including Gunner Anglovich and Deshawn McCarthy. Anglovich ran for 139 yards on 21 carries for a pair of TDs, while McCarthy became the PSAC’s sacks leader after a 3.5 sack performance.
WCU – The PSAC’s top rushing team, West Chester ran into a tough Shippensburg team losing 34-18. The Golden Rams were struggling on the rushing attack putting up just 100 yards total.
HURST – Mercyhurst’s offensive woes continue this season after dropping a game last week to Seton Hill, 19-17. The Lakers have not scored more than 18 points this season and have been held to single digits twice.
BORO – Edinboro ran into the buzzsaw that is Slippery Rock last week, but otherwise put together a balanced attack, however, were unable to score. In the air, they threw for 266 yards and rushed for 263 yards. Isaac Bernard completed Boro’s lone touchdown pass to Mike Watkins in the first half.
IUP – IUP got some offensive potency back after a commanding 58-21 win over Clarion. Duane Brown was the special teams athlete of the week in the PSAC with three returns for 75 yards and a long of 52. He also added six receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown on offense.
SRU – The Rock remained undefeated this season thanks to its complete offensive day. SRU put up 529 yards of total offense and had some stellar play by Jermaine Wynn Jr. and Cinque Sweeting who each had a pair of touchdowns.
LHU – Perhaps LHU’s lone bright spot in its 75-21 loss to Shepherd was the play of DeAn Wakefield. He rushed for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13 attempts averaging 7.5 yards per carry.
BLOOM – The Huskies fell to Kutztown last week, 34-7 and continue to struggle on both sides of the ball. They did, however, get to the quarterback a lot last week combining for 4.0 sacks. AJ Simon accounted for a pair of those sacks and totaled 4.5 tackles for loss.
SHEP – Shepherd combined for 638 yards of total offense last week against Lock Haven winning 75-21. Tyson Bagent, of course had himself a great game (330yds, 5TDs), but what was a surprise was the rushing. The Rams combined for 308 yards on the ground. Chantz Swartz had 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
VILLE – Millersville fell on the road at ESU last week, 27-7. The Marauders’ Isaia Onuschak still was a force on the field totaling eight tackles (7 solo).
GANN – The Cal U defense proved to be a little too much for the Griffins last week getting held to 296 yards of offense in the 38-17 loss. Former PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Keith Thompson had 10 tackles (6 solo) and 1.5 for loss.
SHU – Seton Hill got a win on the road last week at Mercyhurst, 19-17. Putting together practically all the scoring was Logan Wiland who rushed for 178 yards and a trio of touchdowns.
CLAR – The Golden Eagles are still searching for that first win of 2021 after a 58-21 loss at home against IUP Saturday. The receiving corps has been good, with Terrell Ford grabbing eight catches for 115 yards and a touchdown, and Quinn Zinobile snagging six receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.
CAL U – The Vulcans continued their defensive prowess last week, but also got a great game from quarterback Noah Mitchell who threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns in Cal U’s 38-17 win over Gannon.
SHIP – Shippensburg beat West Chester, 34-18 last week in commanding fashion forcing five turnovers. The Raiders beat the Golden Rams for the first time in six years.
KUTZ – The Golden Bears got a solid road win at Bloomsburg last Saturday, 34-7. Kutztown’s win put them in the NCAA Top 25 according to the AFCA Coaches Poll. Mason McElroy had five receptions for 128 yards in the win.
