Sibiski and Warden Claim Top Honors on All-PSAC Teams
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference released the 2021 men’s soccer all-conference teams, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
The all-conference and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
In the East, Graduate Student Beckham Sibiski of Lock Haven earned Athlete of the Year. He is the first Bald Eagle to claim the honor since 2011. Sibiski’s 12 assists lead the PSAC. He is second on the team in goals with seven, behind Rookie of the Year Samuel Hershey who has 13. Sibiski earned PSAC East Athlete of Week when he turned in two game-winning goals in two games to win both games against PSAC opponents. He has three game-winners this season.
West Chester senior Craig Potts was tabbed Defensive Athlete of the Year for the second time in his career. He also earned the honor in 2019. The Golden Rams defense allowed 15 goals in 16 games, the fewest in the PSAC. In five of those games Potts and the defense did not allow any goals. He played in 15 games this season.
Lock Haven forward Samuel Hershey was named Rookie of the Year. He is the second consecutive Bald Eagle to earn the honor after Andrea DiSomma in 2019. Hershey is second in the PSAC with 13 goals and also has eight assists. His 34 points are good for second in the league. The freshman took home two PSAC East Athlete of the Awards, including in a week where he recorded nine points in two games. Hershey is also a kicker on the Lock Haven football team.
Patrick Long earned his first Coach of the Year honor at the helm for Lock Haven. Long led the Bald Eagles to a 13-2-2 overall record and a 10-1-1 performance in the PSAC, both the best in the league. This season, Lock Haven claimed the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East, earned a No. 21 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches weekly poll, and earned a No. 6 ranking in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings. Under his direction, seven Bald Eagles earned all-conference honors this season.
In the PSAC West, Mercyhurst senior Sidney Warden was voted Athlete of the Year. He is the first Laker to win the award since 2017. Warden leads the PSAC in three statistical categories.
He is in first place with 18 goals, has recorded five game-winners, and has 40 points. Warden claimed three consecutive PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors this season. In that span, he scored 12 goals, recorded three assists, and led the Lakers to a six-game win streak.
Gannon’s Bautista Corti was named Defensive Athlete of the Year. He is the second consecutive Golden Knight to win the award behind Chandler Hallwood. Gannon has only allowed 18 goals in 19 games, the third-fewest in the league and the Golden Knights recorded seven shutouts. The freshman earned two PSAC West Defensive athlete of the week awards this season playing in 18 games.
Dylan Sumner of Mercyhurst earned Rookie of the Year honors. The last Mercyhurst athlete to win the award was in 2018 (Henri Tophaven.) Sumner appears in the top-10 in several statistical categories. He is tied for seventh in the PSAC with seven goals, is tied for ninth with six assists, and he recorded 20 points in 16 games played. The redshirt freshman posted a season-high five points against the University of District of Columbia on Sept. 10 when he scored two goals and picked up an assist.
In his first full season with the Lakers, Mercyhurst’s Ryan Osborne was selected as Coach of the Year. The last Mercyhurst coach to earn the honor was Nenad Vidakovic in 2016. Under his direction, the Lakers scored 54 goals, the most in the league, posted a 12-3-2 overall record and a 7-1-2 record in league play en route to the PSAC West regular season title. Six of Osborne’s players earned all-conference honors.
Eight athletes are making repeat appearances as all-conference nominees.
