LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- Shippensburg University’s Jazmin Petrantonio, Caitlyn Wink and Head Coach Tara Zollinger, along with West Chester University’s Valerie van Kuijck highlighted the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Field Hockey All-Conference Teams. Petrantonio was named Athlete of the Year, while Wink was named Defensive Athlete of the Year. Van Kuijck took home Rookie of the Year honors and Zollinger was named Coach of the Year.

All-conference teams and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Petrantonio claims her second career PSAC Athlete of the Year honor after being picked back in 2018. She will go down as one of the most decorated PSAC field hockey student-athletes ever with two Athlete of the Year selections, a Freshman of the Year honor (2017) and she is now a four-time First Team All-PSAC selection. To no one’s surprise, Petrantonio was dominant on the field this season helping Shippensburg to an undefeated 16-0 overall mark and 10-0 league record. A native of Argentina, Petrantonio has top marks in NCAA DII in points per game (4.81), goals per game (2.12) and in total points (77). She also adds six game-winning goals and averaged 6.44 shots on goal. Her 77 points on the season are good for third all-time in a single season in PSAC history and she has 103 career goals and 241 career points which are both second all-time.

Joining her teammate Petrantonio in the major award category is Caitlyn Wink. Wink earns Defensive Player of the Year honors after being a leader on the top defensive team in the country. She commanded the Raiders efforts to allow just nine goals this season as opponents averaged less than a goal per game at 0.56. They also tallied 11 shutouts tallying 0.69 shutouts per game on the season. Each of these defensive statistics are tops in NCAA DII. Wink becomes the first Shippensburg student-athlete to win field hockey defensive athlete of the year since the award was introduced back in 2014.

At the helm of the dominant Shippensburg team was Coach of the Year Tara Zollinger. She helped lead the team to its undefeated record as it had top marks in NCAA DII field hockey in goals per game (5.56), assists per game (3.75), points per game (14.88), scoring average (5.55), scoring margin (+4.99), goals against average (0.56), shutouts (11) and penalty corners per game (14.56.) It’s the first time Zollinger has been selected as PSAC Coach of the Year. She is also the first Coach of the Year honoree from Shippensburg since Bertie Landes in 2005.

Rounding out the major award winners is PSAC Rookie of the Year from West Chester, Valerie van Kuijck. van Kuijck will undoubtedly be a force in the league for years to come as she had an outstanding freshman season in the PSAC. She was third in the league in total points (41) and in total goals (17). She was also sixth in the PSAC in assists with seven. Her performance this year helped West Chester rank third in the conference in scoring average (3.8 gpg) and average a +1.24-scoring margin.

On the all-conference squads, Petrantonio, Wink and van Kuijck each landed on the first team. For Petrantonio it was her fourth first-team selection, while for Wink and van Kuijck they earned their first.

Of 39 honorees, 13 are repeating as all-conference selections while 26 are named to All-PSAC teams for the first time in their respective careers.
