LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced this week’s football athletes of the week for week 10. From the PSAC East, Shepherd University’s Tyson Bagent and Kyle Smith were honored, while Kutztown University’s Dean Krcic was picked as well. In the PSAC West, Slippery Rock University’s Jermaine Wynn Jr. and DJ Opsatnik were selected, while Keith Brickman of Mercyhurst University was also picked.
EAST
Offensive Athlete of the Week
Shepherd
Tyson Bagent
Junior
Quarterback
Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg
Bagent closed out Shepherd’s PSAC East schedule with a dominating performance against a tough ESU defense. He threw for 437 yards on 45 pass attempts and 27 completions while totaling six touchdowns.
Defensive Athlete of the Week
Shepherd
Kyle Smith
Junior
Sterling, Va. / Dominion
Smith helped lead a Shepherd defense that Limited East Stroudsburg to 125 yards of total offense and seven points. Smith recorded three tackles, a pair of sacks (-14 yards), a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.
Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Kutztown
Dean Krcic
Punter
Saylorsburg, Pa. / Pleasant Valley
Kutztown’s Dean Krcic had another outstanding day Saturday, punting three times for 164 yards in the 19th-ranked Golden Bears’ 21-14 comeback win at West Chester. The Golden Rams were working near midfield early in the fourth when Justin Harris intercepted WCU quarterback Shane Dooley on a downfield pass at the KU 36. The Maroon and Gold couldn't do anything with it, but Krcic, as he's done all year, provided a clutch 56-yard boomer to the WCU 4 that would ultimately factor into setting up Kutztown's winning drive. Krcic was excellent once again. Even though he was only called upon three times, he had a career-long 70-yard punt in the second quarter and finished with a 54.7 average for the day.
WEST
Offensive Athlete of the Week
Slippery Rock
Jermaine Wynn Jr.
Senior
Wide Receiver
Pittsburgh, Pa. / Woodland Hills
Wynn caught 10 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns in Slippery Rock’s 38-26 win over No. 3 Cal U. The Vulcans entered the game ranked fourth in the country in total defense and ninth in passing defense, allowing just 136.1 passing yards per game. Wynn topped that by himself. His 10 catches brought his career total to 200 catches at SRU, making him the third player in program history to reach the 200-reception milestone.
Defensive Athlete of the Week
Mercyhurst
Keith Brickman
Senior
Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan
The Mercyhurst football team was victorious in Head Coach Marty Schaetzle’s last home game coaching the Lakers. Much of that was thanks to the stellar defensive play of Keith Brickman. Brickman was all over the field with a trio of pass breakups, an interception for 46 yards and four tackles including one that forced a fumble.
Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Slippery Rock
DJ Opsatnik
Sophomore
Place Kicker
Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny
Opsatnik was perfect in the kicking game and scored eight points for Slippery Rock in a 38-26 win over No. 3 Cal U. He kicked five extra points and converted his only field goal attempt of the day from 31 yards.
