PSAC Women’s Soccer Tournament set to begin Tuesday
2021 PSAC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament Hub
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament is set to begin Tuesday, November 9. The No. 1 seed in the East is Kutztown. Bloomsburg is the no. 2 seed, West Chester is no. 3, and Millersville is no. 4. In the West, Mercyhurst secured the no. 1 seed, followed by Gannon at no. 2, Slippery Rock at no. 3, and Edinboro at no. 4.
The quarterfinals begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday when Mercyhurst (13-4-1) hosts Edinboro (9-8-0). The second match in the West features Slippery Rock (13-3-3) at Gannon (11-2-3) at 4:30 p.m. In the East, Kutztown (17-1-0) hosts Millersville (8-6-3) at 6 p.m. and West Chester (11-3-2) travels to Bloomsburg (12-4-2) at 5 p.m.
The semifinals will take place on Friday at the highest remaining Eastern seed.
Slippery Rock enters the tournament to defend its 2019 championship. Bloomsburg won in 2018.
Kutztown has been ranked in every week of the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 poll this season. Slippery Rock, West Chester, and Edinboro all received rankings, and Bloomsburg received votes in some of the polls.
Kutztown enters the tournament with only one loss. The Golden Bears scored 36 goals in 18 games. Kayla Argen provided five game-winners.
Bloomsburg allowed just eight goals this season, the fewest in the PSAC. Alexa Ryan holds an .805 save percentage. Offensively, the Huskies recorded 32 goals.
West Chester’s Hayley McGee only allowed 9 goals in 15 games. She leads the PSAC with an .885 save percentage. The Golden Rams tied for the second-most goals scored in the league with 37.
Millersville finished in the middle of the pack. Lauren Downey is second in the league with six assists.
Mercyhurst received 13 goals from Emily Mijares. She’s tied for the PSAC lead. Seven of Mijares’ goals were game-winners.
Gannon goalkeeper Kennedy Solymosi allowed just 10 goals this season. She’s sixth in the PSAC with an .831 save percentage. The Golden Knights scored 30 goals.
Slippery Rock leads the PSAC with 49 goals. Thirteen of them belong to Rachel Edge. She also has seven assists, which ties her for first in the league.
Edinboro allowed 28 goals in 17 games. The Fighting Scots scored 27.
The championship game will be played at the highest remaining Eastern seed on Sunday, November 14.
