Gannon’s Caleb Mandel earns PSAC Men’s Cross Country Scholar Athlete Award
Gannon University sophomore Caleb Mandel has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Champion Scholar, the league office announced Saturday at 2020-21 PSAC Men’s Cross Country Championship in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- Gannon University sophomore Caleb Mandel has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Champion Scholar, the league office announced Saturday at 2020-21 PSAC Men’s Cross Country Championship in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
Mandel is the fourth consecutive Golden Knight to earn the champion scholar award for men’s cross country. He joins Joseph Westwick (2019-20) and Garrett Sutton (2018-19 and 2017-18).
The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 award and honor the student-athlete with the top grade-point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 90 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions – I, II, and III.
The Harborcreek, Pennsylvania native recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in the physician assistant program at GU.
