PSAC BASEBALL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK - 6
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference office this week’s baseball athletes of the week. From the East, Mansfield University's Zachary Shertzer and Lock Haven University's Kyler Mellott were honored, while in the West, Brandon Wetherholt of Gannon University earned Athlete of the Week, while Dylan Heid of Pitt-Johnstown University and Eric Sapp of Gannon were Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Zachary Shertzer – Mansfield

Zachary Shertzer hit .462 (6-for-13) with two homers, eight RBI's and four runs to lift Mansfield to a pair of wins over Lock Haven last weekend. The Freshman went 2-for-3, belted two home runs, including a grand slam and drove in five runs in game two on Thursday. Shertzer led MU to an 8-3 victory in the final game of the series, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI's Shertzer has a hit in nine of the last 10 games and is batting .478 (11-for-23) with 16 RBI and three home runs in the last two series.

Kyler Mellot – Lock Haven

Kyler Mellott (Bellefonte, Pa./ Bellefonte (Clarion) delivered a gem on the mound for The Haven pitching a complete-game shutout and allowing just four hits across his seven innings. Mellot led his team to a 7-0 win Saturday with his superb performance. The outing marks the first complete-game shutout for the Bald Eagles since the season finale in 2019 when they notched a 1-0 win over rival Millersville. Mellot struck out five Mountie batters without walking a batter to earn his first win as a Bald Eagle.

Brandon Wetherholt – Gannon

Brandon Wetherholt helped the Knights to a 5-3 record last week, including a 4-0 mark at home. He posted a team-high 10 hits with four doubles and two home runs. and contributed 20 total bases and eight RBI's. He also scored a team-best nine runs and notched a .417 batting average and .833 slugging percentage. Wetherholt was also 2-for-2 in stolen bases and went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, two RBI and one home run in the win over Slippery Rock.

Dylan Heid – Pitt-Johnstown

Dylan Heid is now a four-time PSAC West Pitcher of the Week in 2021 following Heid pitching a complete-game two-hit shutout against Indiana (Pa.) to open a four-game PSAC series on Friday at Johnstown's Sargent Stadium at the Point. Heid struck out 11 and walked one to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Eric Sapp – Gannon

Eric Sapp was huge for the Golden Knights in their 5-3 week last week. He picked up two wins with two solid starts over PSAC West opponents in Slippery Rock in Clarion. In the matchup against The Rock, he hurled 6.0 strong innnings allowing two earned runs on six hits while punching out eight batters in a 7-3 victory. He later in the week hurled a strong 5.2 innings allowing just one earned run on five hits and one walk while punching out four in a 7-2 win over Clarion.
