IUP crowned 2021 PSAC Women’s Tennis Champions

INDIANA, Pa. --- 
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks were named the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Champions Friday by the PSAC office due to the championship match being deemed a “no-contest” based on conference championship policy. IUP was scheduled to play Millersville University in the championship match Saturday, but the Marauders had to withdrawal from the tournament due to COVID-19 protocols.


For the Crimson Hawks, they capture their first women’s tennis title since 2018 and third PSAC championship this year having won in Men’s Golf and Women’s Swimming prior to Friday.
 
Indiana had an outstanding year en route to the women’s tennis crown going 13-3 overall and 6-0 in league matches before defeating Slippery Rock in the PSAC Women’s Tennis Semifinals against, 4-2.
 
As for the Marauders, they were 8-4 on the year overall and 4-1 in league matches. They had to get two tough victories to make it to the finals beating Bloomsburg, 4-3, and West Chester, 4-3.
 
IUP will have a shot to continue its season in the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Tournament. They sit as the 2nd best team in the Atlantic Region. The women’s tennis selection show will be Tuesday, May 4.
