Marsteller, Osikowicz Garner Softball All-PSAC Top Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- Shippensburg University sophomore Hannah Marsteller and Seton Hill University senior Jenna Osikowicz garnered this year’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Conference top honors earning Athlete of the Year awards. Joining Marsteller in the East was Brianna Hughes of Kutztown University who won Rookie of the Year, Marah Range of East Stroudsburg University who won Pitcher of the Year and Judy Lawes of Kutztown who earned Coach of the Year. Other honors from the West were Britney Wilson of California University of Pennsylvania who earned Rookie of the Year, Logan Hartman of Seton Hill garnered Pitcher of the Year, and Leanne Baker of Mercyhurst University captured Coach of the Year honors.
 
All-conference teams and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
 
This year in softball, two all-conference teams from the East and West were selected consisting of all nine positions, the designated player, two pitchers, a utility/pitcher and a utility/non-pitcher.
 
Marsteller dominated at the plate for the Raiders earning the top honor. Marsteller is ninth in NCAA Division II in batting average (.500) and first overall in the conference. She also smacked 18 home runs, which was second in the PSAC, and was first in the PSAC in RBIs with 64. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native had seven games with at least four RBIs and three multi-home run games.
 
Hughes of Kutztown had solid rookie campaign for the Golden Bears, batting .372 (53-for-154) with 11 HRs, 38 RBIs, and was 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts. She finished with a 1.081 OPS and led the roster in total bases.
 
Range gets top hurler in the East honors after a stellar season in the circle in which she finished with a 14-5 record tallying a 2.89 ERA (48 ER in 116.1 IP). She was third in the PSAC in strikeouts with 109 and held opponents to a .244 average in the season. Range also twirled 12 complete games and had one save out of the bullpen.
 
Golden Bears Head Coach Judy Lawes was voted coach of the year in the East after leading Kutztown to a 32-13 overall record and a 23-9 mark in PSAC games. Kutztown was 17-6 in home games and 15-7 on the road. She also coached KU to the PSAC tournament semifinals. KU was also nationally ranked a few times this season, including the most recent NFCA Top 25 poll (No. 25).
 
Over in the West, Osikowicz was one of the top outfielders in the PSAC. She batted .407 (57-for-140) with 2 HRs, 29 runs scored and was 14-for-18 in stolen bases. Osikowicz is tops in the nation in triples with eight and had 83 total bases for the Griffins. She also had an OPS of 1.058.
 
California’s Wilson had a solid first campaign in the PSAC West hitting .377 (26-for-69) which was second on the CALU roster. She was second on the team in RBIs with 21 and smacked a pair of home runs.
 
SHU’s Hartman was as tough to face as anyone in the country this season in the circle. She is tops in the PSAC in ERA (1.19) and opponent batting average .180. Hartman carries a 13-1 record, has eight complete games and three total shutouts.
 
Mercyhurst head coach Leanne Baker helped the Mercyhurst Lakers to their first postseason appearance since 2013 in her award-winning season. She helped the Lakers offense to top marks in the west in batting average (.311) home runs (39) and were second to SHU in hits in the West with 343.
