GREENSBURG, Pa. --- The West Chester University Golden Rams won the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Softball Championship Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Seton Hill University in game two of the best-of-three series. Following a 15-2 win on Friday, WCU came from behind Saturday to earn the series and the championship win in game two.

In game one, The Golden Rams had two big innings en route to the victory with a 6-run fourth, and a 6-run seventh inning. WCU totaled 15 hits in the win and continue to be the top-hitting team in the PSAC.

Bri Garber, Courtney Stump, Jaime Klemas, Haleigh Karcher and Emily Kim each had two RBIs, while Annamarie Hartman tallied three for the Golden Rams.

Stump had a big day finishing 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

For Seton Hill, Allison Kapoll had a pair of hits including a solo home run to keep the team from getting 8-runned in the fifth inning.

WCU’s Jen Hanshaw twirled a complete-game with two earned runs on eight hits, while punching out five batters.

Game two was a pitcher’s duel through four innings and it was not until the top of the fifth that a team broke through.

SHU’s Mackenzie Zang pushed the first run across with an RBI single through the left side making a 1-0 Griffins lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, following a walked-in a run, WCU added another two runs in the bottom half following a Stump RBI lineout. WCU took a 3-1 lead into the sixth

Seton Hill responded with a run in the top of the sixth on a Nichole McClendon RBI single, but did not add any more for the rest of the contest.

The Golden Rams pushed an insurance run across in the bottom of the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh to claim the championship victory.

With the win, WCU claims its first PSAC Softball Championship since 2017, and its second PSAC title in a month having won the PSAC Women’s Lacrosse title earlier in May. The Golden Rams also secured a spot in the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament.
