Massaro and Gonzalez Sanchez Earn Top honors in All-PSAC Women’s Tennis Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference named its 2021 Women’s Tennis All-PSAC honors Friday. From the East, Athlete of the Year was West Chester University’s Davica Massaro, Noelle Htwar of Millersville University was Freshman of the Year and Matt Helsel of Millersville was Coach of the Year. On the West side, Slippery Rock University’s Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez was Athlete of the Year, Kaeda Tada of Edinboro University was Freshman of the Year and Larry Peterson of Indiana University of Pennsylvania was Coach of the Year.
 
All-conference teams and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
 
The All-PSAC women’s tennis teams consist of two teams from each division, a first and a second, in both singles and doubles play.
 
West Chester’s Davica Massaro was 6-0 against PSAC East opponents, and with her partner in doubles, Alyssa Skulsky, the pair was 5-1 vs. East opponents and 8-3 overall in doubles position two.
 
Millersville’s Noelle Htwar was 4-1 in the third singles position and was 5-2 against all PSAC opponents on her way to Freshman of the Year.

Her head coach, Matt Helsel led the Marauders to an 8-4 record overall and 4-1 in league games. Millersville won key matchups in the PSAC tournament under his coaching making the championship match.
 
For the West, Adrianna Gonzalez Sanchez had an outstanding year. She was 7-0 this season and was undefeated in DII with an 11-0 record. In doubles, she had a ranking of 23rd with an overall record of 10-3 and 9-1 record in DII.
 
Kaede Tada had a great first year with a record of 6-0 in mandated matches in singles an 8-1 record overall, and was 12-2 between singles and doubles.
 
For IUP, head coach Larry Peterson was 13-3 overall and undefeated in conference play, including winning 4-1 against SRU and capturing a victory in the PSAC women’s tennis championships.
